    Aena's Sketchbook

I was planning on starting a sketchbook on New Year's Day, but the site had that crazy trojan madness? Anyway, guess it's time to stop lurking and start working to improve.

(Moved first post to second post for easier thumbnail adjustments in the future)

    Moved from first post:
30 min: 30 min: 1 hr with PIXELovely's figure & gesture drawing practice tool (for convenience at this hour)
I'm hoping to add pencil studies with live models when I can; I think my university holds a live figure drawing session every other week, but I'll have to check. I'm not sure that I feel ready to tackle color seriously yet.

    Second post:
I'm feeling super slumpy and lethargic lately, and frequent interruptions have been killing the little concentration I can muster.
I've only been doing 10-30 minute-ish exercises over the last few days (not including the the 30 second derpcat), after which I find myself dozing off or absolutely distracted. :/
Hoping to do a proper study tonight.

I joined that evening figure study group, so I'll try to put those sketches up here as progress markers as soon as I find a camera.
For now, here's a personal w.i.p. I'm trying to work out:

I want her to be fairly stylized, but I'm definitely feeling inadequacy with structural understanding from this. Tried to make my own additional reference images, but I feel like my mixed-heritage (and not "young girl" enough) facial structure is throwing me off. I'm putting this away until I do more studies, but at least this reminded me that I need to add neck, shoulder, and collar-oh-my-goodness-what-is-that-trainwreck studies to my to-do list.

Right now, I can definitely see issues with several areas (pancake-cheeks/forehead, ignored the ear, far side of face, when will I get to that hair? blarg!), but I don't yet understand enough to correct them properly.
