wowzah i have painted a lot today. Me and my buddy Eric Quigley (Quigleyer) are doing a sort of fantasy based art story. We both need some more fantasy pieces in our portfolios and we are usually great at bouncing ideas off of each other. Here's my first piece, I named him timmy. I'll update it again soon.

    Hey man,

I suggest managing anatomy and color theory a little better before going on all out pieces.

Mischeviouslittleelf: I agree that I definitely need more anatomy and color work, and I'm doing a lot of studies for anatomy in my physical sketchbook, but I also need to work on stuff like this because otherwise I just feel stuck. Also I like to do occasional finished pieces so I can look back and see that the difference isn't just rendering technique, but also color and anatomy. Thanks though!

hmm I think you might be looking at the body in the wrong way when your drawing it dude
Allot of people do this so its no big deal
When you draw them human body it can really hurt your perspective and form if you draw each part like "well this is an arm so it looks like this and this leg muscle goes here." If you do that you will end up with frankenstein-esq sizes. By this i mean your arm will look amazing and so will the torso but they dont match up in size or other ways. So try imagining it ass one solid piece not as a group of body parts that are attached. I'm serious you may think I'm full of shit but this works and not just for me. Try practicing but just drawing the silhouetted outline of a person or make a drawing from an upside down reference so that you can get more associated with the entire form rather than the parts that make it.

hope that wasn't harsh or anything but I'm just offering advice based on what I can see.

    Good luck mate

    Medusoid:
Thanks, I know and I understand that. It's not like that's all im drawing, but I'm doing each part just as a side thing. the arms in my drawings were really suffering and it's not like that's the only part i'm working on. working solely on complete figures won't help me figure out how the individual muscles work. I know what you mean by just getting the forms down, but I need to understand how they all work. My sketchbook is a bit misleading because I don't post all my physical sketchbook studies which are mostly complete figures. I'm just following what Hogarth is doing in his book too, it you see on the last page I did a few complete figures too. I get your point I just can't do only complete figures. Very much appreciated though.

    no problem man
I think u misunderstood me though I see that your doing full figure studies I meant work on how your visualizeing it and I wasnt talking about the arm one though I see how that was misleading. I dont think I know how to explain what I mean very well. maybe someone else can do it for me XD

ooh i think i see, yeah i'll try some of those. I still think it's important to figure out how the muscles work through drawing them, it's what people like hogarth, bridgeman, and loomis do, but yeah now that I think of it, i've seen the silhouettes done by some people on here so I should give it a shot. thanks! sorry about that misunderstanding.

hey man finally found the time to return the favor, all I have to say is to keep pushing further ! Studies do tend to be boring from time to time but they will help you to get a lot better ! And its good to see you doing a lot of these !

    so long
