here's a girl...
here's a girl...
great wall of china
a bit of a quick sketch...
drapery study
These are looking good my friend. The portrait of the girl looks especially nice. Are you planning on refining any of these? And were they done from observation, or imagination?
another quick portrait. I'm having some difficulty getting these to look right. I'll keep working on them though. any tips?
a horse running... quick mood sketch. Background is my imagination, horse is loosely based on a reference
some strong environments, I would say you should maybe knock out a TON of figure studies, since your figurative work isnt as strong as the environments. Have you tried to draw through Bridgmann and Loomis books? Good stuff with the environments though, good compositions and nice value control.
Very good for 17 though, I might add. Keep it coming!
skintone and lighting study
Hey man, thanks for looking at my sketchbook. Your enviros are nice! I notice a lot of your studies are "quick". I'd say make some studies that are longer, some anatomy studies, figure poses. I like to google images for fight scenes and/or body builders to study the muscles and poses. You've great potential, man, keep it up.
syle: yeah, i'm going to refine a few
bpic: yeah, I really need to catch up on my figures. I will upload a few pencil sketches soon
flanagan: no problem! good advice... i really need to slow down. often I start something then get an idea halfway through for the next thing. I'l try to finish everything a bit more instead of going on right away.
here's a drawing I did while listening to bobby chiu. he's pretty inspirational! I worked on finishing this one up a bit more than usual
here's a figure drawing... I tried this one a bit different, more based on dark and light shapes than contour lines
Your environments are stunning, the perspectives are constructed in a way were it feels like i'm actual standing inside the world you've created. Also the lighting being in the far distance really adds to the mood and depth behind each piece.
great work

The hand study is good. I can tell you spent some good amount of time on it. The figure has good contrast. Keep it up, man.
kapowell: Thanks! I appreciate it! Any critiques would be welcome though.
flanagan: thanks! I shall keep it up. I'll stop when i'm dead I suppose. Or maybe I will still keep going.
Here's a piece based on a brilliant idea I had, to pause a movie and use that as a reference. Actually it's just stupid that I haven't thought of that earlier. I used to google image search movie stills. but that doesn't make sense when I have the movies. This worked out alright. I spent a bit more time than usual. but probably still not enough. this is from prince of persia, ref is in the top left
DUDE! Your sceneries are absolutely BRILLIANT!
Your work is just amazing, and are you seriously only 17?!?
Cool sketchbook man
I would suggest working on your construction before going into rendering
keep it up and have a good one

omertA: yeah, I should have sketched that one out more clearly before I started. I have been painting without sketches for so long, it's hard to get out of the habit of just blocking shapes inacurately.
Here are a few anatomy studies on specific parts. I plan on doing more of these with more detailed references.
Your environments are impressive, and your getting there with the anatomy. Keep practicing! And nice sketchbook btw

Hey man, good to see you posting over here. Nice start to your sketchbook and I really like the girl portraits, hope to see more of them.
very good studies! keep it up!
hey everyone, thanks for all the positive comments! I really appreciate the criticism as well too if you have any.
Great work man and I know your strong point right now is scenery but it looks like your doin some heavy work with figures.
Two suggestions (and I'm not saying I dont struggle with these myself)
-try to loosen up your character's stance, they look a bit stiff. My suggestion would be to do some drawings with bent toes, bent knees, keep the elbows away from the body
-and the other idea is to check the shoulder to hip size ratio. something in that area looks out of sink w/ the other.
Now in all seriousness please don't take this the wrong way. I would be really upset if you felt I was coming off like an arrogant ass. And dude your work is freaking amazing!
But I just feel like I don't notice my mistakes allot of the time until someone else points them out to me so just know I'm trying to give encouragement here not cut you down.
Merry Christmas![]()
Hey, looking good. The digital horse-sketch really caught my eye. I like the value range in your grayscales as well. Keep it up!
Thanks! On the contrary, I reeeally appreciate criticism like that. I don't always see stuff like that. I saw something was wrong but I couldn't figure out what. If you have any other criticisms they are always very much appreciated.
Merry Christmas to yourself as well!
Glad to hear it, though my fountain of intelligent comments is a very shallow one and so I find it best if I don't suggest too much and that way I seam smartBut if I think of anything I'll be sure to tell you
great stuff! i'm (like everyone else it seems) loving your environment work! great perspective and composition...and lighting.. and everything, haha.
the figure drawing just needs practice and lots of observation. the torsos on your last musculature study look a bit long.. i think it's more the hip area than the upper part actually.
anyway, i look forward to seeing more![]()
