Hiya =) I think you're doing great =) Keep working hard on your portraits, I won't mention anything more that the others have pretty much given you already a lot of advice, I'd maybe just say to start more gentle with your lines but other than that your portrait studies are getting much better, especially since the last couple of updates =) Good luck with your next study =)

Awesome paint sketch! =) I hope you don't mind me saying but your mermaid looks a bit like you, haha =) Good luck with finishing, I hope you do =)
I like the mermaid - it's a bit like battling a fly away for us humans.
The faces will come as you draw tons more and build up your mental library.
This is a witch based on my own face, so now I know what I will look like in 30 year LOL
It is a digital drawing done in PSP. I used the charcoal and color pencil tools. I working on this sketch for one hour.

Your works improved in the last couple of pages.
Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook thread.
Marianne, your tribe is great! =) I like the girl on the right, her hair piece is great, and that looks like a hedgehog on her head! =) Good luck with neatening it up, I'd maybe just smooth out the strokes a bit and you could have a nice piece tbh =)
To day I have two pages from my sketch book. Both are sketches done from observation, not from photo. I spend 5-10 min on each sketch. My goal is to draw small quick sketches on location every day.

Nice drawings - I really love the tribal characters.
Keep practising!![]()
The tribal picture shows promise. I like the dogs as well.
Sometimes I feel that doing my art is like pushing a large rock uphill. I am always struggling to improve, and I never find rest, in what I am capable of doing at the moment. Am I too hard on myself? Should I just quit, because no matter how good I become and how much I learn, there will always be someone better than me, telling me that I need to improve?
It's no secret that I am not twenty anymore, and sometimes I wonder if I ever will master all the stuff I dream of. This weekend turned out to be a new kind of lesson to me! I had three people signing up for me to do a perspective drawing class. I have been struggling with perspective drawing myself, and I really don't think I am the best tutor they could get, but as the class went on, I realized that, perhaps I am not that bad. I actually manage to teach three people how to find the horizon line, vanishing points and to draw one, two and three-point perspective.
As I stood there tutoring I realized that perhaps I need to start to put my skills to use. I actually know how to do it, but I never seem to be able to put all my skill to use in one single painting. I always end up with a painting where I know something could have been improved. What if I decided to work out sketches for a painting that would include all I ever learnt about drawing and painting, would that be possible? I asked my husband what he thought, and he said; Marianne, I don't know anything about painting, but I do know that you know a lot of stuff that you can use in any way you like, so why don't you just get started instead of feeling sorry for yourself!

Your husband talks sense. I'm not 20 either by a long way. You'll never know if you don't try and it's never too late to start.
This is a troll I did to day. I had so much work lately, but i hope to get back to my oil painting next week.

Someone suggested that I should try to practice more portrait sketching from life, so I started to bring my sketch book to public places like the train station, restaurants and parks. I have been struggling to draw portraits from my imaginations, and at the same time keep the proportions' right'. I decided to challenge myself to draw people on location, and at the same time turn them into fantasy characters.
I have attached some portrait doodles done entirely from my imagination and two of the portraits I did waiting for a train. The guy was sitting opposite to me and I liked his dark eyes. I thought he looked like an elf.
If I compare the drawings done from my imagination with the drawings done on location, there is no doubt in my mind that I will benefit from doing sketches from life! I spend 5-10 min one the drawings of the guy at the train station!

I like the neighbor.
He is looking real attractive.
Something fantastic and bestial
is hidden under his wings.
He is ready to attack and to explode.
He attacks his victims, chew their jugular
veins and then when the victim almost dies,
he explodes in ecstasy. More than marvelous
idea. Keep it up like this.
More drawing from life definitely. I wouldn't try to change them either until you're a lot more confident. Draw as is and then do an elf etc from the drawing.
This is a traditional Danish Yule decoration I did for my daughter's house. This is not a painting, but a decoration that is cut and used as decoration of our home. The photo isn't showing the colors very well, I will try to take a better photo when there is a better light. This Gnome is 23.6 in tall.
I draw a Yule gnome every year, and this year I was inspired by the Vikings. The Danish Yule celebration is much older than Christmas, and most Danes love the old traditions. The Yule gnome has been worshiped since the time of the Vikings. In Denmark, we celebrate Yule or Christmas on the 24th. of December, because it is closer to the Solstice than the 25 th. Danes have adopted many German and English Christmas traditions, but Santa Clause will never be as popular as our own Danish Yule Gnomes. Danish Children believe that the Yule Gnome brings them gifts, and they will provide the gnomes with sweet and food to attract them to their house.

That's a shame. Next time take a camera with you.
I always wanted to paint a person playing the violin, so I have started to to do some sketches with poses, this is my first more to come! Is the head to large on the sketch?
