Back to basics, advice seeking sketchbook.

    Well ok where to start.

I recently applied for a job at Atomhawk designs in Gateshead, they turned me down, so I asked for feedback on my work and they actually gave me some, which is unusual.

Anyway they said I should go back to basics on my sketching, my images look flat and i should study form, shape and depth and really get to grips with my anatomy. It was a real eye opener, I should really seek professional advice more often, working in a call centre has, blinded me so to say.

So what I would like to request is some serious advice within my sketchwork and my portfolio I would like to post daily or at least do updates on this twice or thrice a week.

I am just at a point of mental blockage, I don't know what I should really study for shape and form. I am sure there are some good tutorials out there on the web but I suppose I have gotten a bit lazy and require a good kick up the bum and guidance.

Anything you guys could do to help would be smashing.

So without further or do here are some sketches I have done recently.

I am kinda lost at the minute so if you guys could give me some advice and places to go I would be really grateful, many thanks in advance.

    hey jiskel
your figure seems pretty good, I suppose what the studio was refering to was that all your forms are really simplified versions of the human figure. maybe you need to focus more on learning all the surface muscles and how they affect the figure, so less simplified limbs and so on..
the posing and balancing seems to be stronger for you but i think the actual physical anatomy stuff might be whats lacking.
i have bridgmans "human machine" and it seems to be to be a good resource for learning this

also practice the hell out of your basic shapes, your line is all weak and fuzzy (in the cube and cylinder.. this is also the advice i gave leo. basic shapes are hard, we all think we can do them but we cant)

this helped me: http://www.autodestruct.com/thumbwar.htm skip down to the "drawing fundamentals" section

    also here: http://conceptart.org/forums/showthr...93#post1159293
on this page of this thread there is some advice on drawing cubes, this i think will be helpful

    hope that helps good luck

Some more sketches, sepia stuff this time round, got a hold of some of those sepia fine liners. Pretty nice and give me the ability to try and sketch a little shape in to peoples faces =)
