    Akali Singh's Sketchbook

So ive finally gotten back into drawing and yes i suck, but i dont care...
Ive started to sketch everyday even though i work full time.

im waking up everyday at 4 am to draw for 3 hours before heading off to work and at least 12 hours on weekends.

Please critique the hell out of my work !

    Thank You

    Wow!

I see improvement already on these bad boys!

Just keep up the (extremely) good work, and I'll be checking back. For now, I would suggest you try and make things as true to the observations as possbile, as it will make your progress that murch quicker.

    Good job mate!

Welcome to your new sketchbook! You're drawing a lot, which is a great habit to nourish. :]
allow me to suggest a warmup exercise for your mornings: http://www.pixelovely.com/tools/gesture.html
give yourself a minute or a bit more to study gesture in figures.erik gist offers a good process to help you see that line of action, as well as build forms on that.

And here are some links for your head drawing needs.

i'm linking a number of head instruction books and demos because i'm not sure how you learn best.
pick one that clicks with you and study diligently.

Hey there! You're working hard on those faces.

I recommend abandoning the circle/line thing. You're getting the classic "skull too small, face too long and thin" problem that comes with that approach. Instead, roughly draw the organic shape of the face first, then refine it. Everybody has a differently shaped head for different reasons, so when you approach them all from the same way, they look the same, and they all have the same mistakes!

    Good luck

Great faces! And I really enjoyed the figure work you did up a little earlier. perhaps using value to model the forms you're drawing will help you to think a little bit more in the ways of 3D and bring your faces to that next level. Also, drawing time is good, but don't forget to get enough sleep too! Waking up at 4am sounds awful! ( that's when I usually go to sleep!)
"A drawing is not necessarily academic because it is thorough, but only because it is dead. Neither is a drawing necessarily academic because it is done in what is called a conventional style, any more than it is good because it is done in an unconventional style. The test is whether it has life and conveys genuine feeling."- Harold Speed
