congrats on escaping from the dayjob!
I love your studies of value shapes/planes. That's something I'm trying to work on myself, even though I don't think it shows in my work.
Looking at the nudes at the top of the page, don't forget about the form as well as the outline. Even with simple contures, you can imply overlapping shapes and three dimensionality with a couple extra strokes. Don't be too careful!
Thanks for the note in my book!

tulokyn Thanks! I'll try and focus more on the overall outline in my next studies. : )
Been busy with finals and work. Can't wait til I leave my job so I can just draw all the time. Here's a couple face studies and a pastel Self Portrait I started.
Sorry for the lack of updates. Finally finished with finals, and only a week and a half left of work. Here's some posemaniacs and referenced sketches. Along with some stuff from imagination. Also another pastel self portrait. Starting to sorta kinda get the hang of pastels.
Hi,
Thanks for visiting my sketch book!
Yourself portrait is looking great! Good luck with your art studies!
Hey, Thanks for visiting my SB mate. I appreciate it.
I like the way your studies are going on. The 'blocky' approach your using to draw the figure is interesting somewhat similar to Bridgeman's i guess.Self portraits are looking good too. Keep doing more of those.
Well keep up the studies and do some simple stuff from your imagination from time to time, as well. Best of luck mate.

Had the day off and worked on studies just about all day. Felt awesome and I feel like I learned a thing or two. Also did a little more from imagination and my first digital study from life. Any tips on digital work would be great, I'm finding it difficult.
I wish my lines had more weight to them, they're barely visible when I scan them in, and the levels adjuster in Photoshop only does so much. Anyways, any comments and/or crits would be great!
Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook!
Your faces and planes are looking sweet. Keep working on the proportions of your figures to get them up to par with the faces. I see you're doing Loomis studies, so you're already working in the right direction. Keep it up, man!
Here's my sketchbook!
Quick update before work. Thank you for comments : )
jNeumann! Thanks for visiting my sketchbook, it doesn't get a lot of traffic
Dude, I completely envy you for being able to drop your job like that! That's amazingly brave, and I hope it works out for you.
Your eye studies really popped out at me. Very strong presentation of the planes, which, I know from reading through Loomis is incredibly important! Just overall, you seem to have a fantastic sense of form.
My apologies that I don't have any constructive crit to give, but I just don't know enough yet to be passing out advice. Cheers!
Great Sb!lots of great pencil works,i love the potrait just keep posting and push yourself for the very best!![]()
Strangedawn Thanks a lot! I plan on it!
[B]Syle[/B Thanks man, I appreciate it. My last day of work is Friday, then i'm a free man.
I had a whole day off today, spent the whole day drawing, studying. A lot of unfinished stuff, I have a hard time finishing anything. But here's a bit from the day.
Comments and crits encouraged
My first two attempts at photo studies in Photoshop
As done as this SP is ever going to be, it's a mess.

Awesome update! Lots of pages! How are you feeling about the photo ref via photoshop? I find it really tough...painting in photoshop from life observation is a whole lot easier for me, dunno why.
Also, don't beat yourself up over that SP. It looks great from my first impression. I like how you really studied the planes of the face, and it shows in your drawing. At the very least, I imagine you learned a fair bit from doing this?
good study... n all .. go ahead..!
some great improvments all around man. If you dont already you should study up on some bridgeman. Other then that try and think about every single stroke your doing and why your doing it.
keep it up and have a good one

HA!
Good job on starting a sketchbook.
One thing is for sure; I like your style.
Try to steal some tricks from this guy;

I know you will be mega happy seeing his drawings,
cause I was when I met him. Unfortunately he stopped posting.
Thanks for comment JNeumann, the color-pencil is reallly nice, I like it! Work some more in your digital, try to keep the same style, I'd really like to see it, keep it up!![]()
Hahah! You made out you were a slacker in my sketchbook! Amazing work![]()
Hey, nice studies! I'm liking the quantity, and quality. You have a real delicate touch, you must be popular with the ladies. Yeah, I can see the improvement from the first post, so just keep it up man!
one crit from me about drawing portraits: when you are drawing out the outline of the face and putting features in, its good to place the pencil on the paper vertically and see if things are oddly symetrical or distorted. Just having that obvious vertical (or horizontal) line there are reference helps you to see more obvious mistakes.
Its just a little thing but often people forget to do it!
Looking forward to more, merry christmas!

Hey jNeumann. Thanks so much for your kind comment in my SB. I can see you are off to a good start and I like the way you draw and render with pencil. I'm excited to see what's to come and I'm glad you will be able to spend more time on your art. I wish you well.![]()
Syle Hey thanks a lot. From the little that I've done, I like painting from photo reference. I feel like I improve a little bit each time. I need to do a ton more though. I learn a little from each self portrait as well.
bharat Thanks a lot!
OmertA I just dug out my 'Constructive Anatomy' book and realized how amazing it is. Going to start drawing through it after Christmas. Thanks!
LtPlissken Thanks man, appreciate it. That guy's work is pretty nice, it's a shame he doesn't update anymore.
Ramat Thanks! The self portraits are actually in Prismacolor pastels, thanks either way!
ladyknowles I'm a bit of a slacker, but thanks!
Lang Oulk I wish my artist's touch attracted the ladies. Will need to work on that. Thanks!
ThomasM Thanks a lot for the tip. I do notice I have trouble lining up the eyes occasionally. Merry Christmas to you too.
Marian Rowling No Problem, thanks a bunch for stopping by.
Well, today was my last day at work. Feels good to be free. Didn't get to draw a whole bunch the past couple days. My friends are down on break from School, they're time-suckers. I did get to see True Grit and Black Swan though. Both are incredible and I highly recommend them. I never want to post without something to show, so here's a couple things.
Merry Christmas to everyone!
you need to focus on whats inside, what makes the face, rather than what shapes you can SEE
i see a lot of problems with your construction, though it's got a fuckin dope stylization to them!
i'd HIGHLY reccomend studying loomis' heads and hands, if you see in my sketchbook i've been studying him and i can construct a head so much easier now! keep doing it the way he does it, with circles etc and then the shapes will be based off imaginary lines in your head
keep it up
btw i saw you comment in sid's sb about my crit so i attempted givin a similar one hehe, merry christmas!
keep at it, love you style bro! great lines and rendering!
go get 'em yeah?![]()
Hello, J, the color interpretations in your drawings are really nice, much better than the PS studies I think, However when working with colors, watch out for flatness, it's quite confusing in your sp's try to do some profile sp, or 3/4's, it will help to understand your face better
Hi, Thanks for dropping by my thread. I like your pencil work. Your faces look good to me. Looking forward to more.
Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook! You have some nice stuff going on here. I find it a bit angular at times though , so maybe try loosening up a bit with some broader more sweeping strokes.

Cool sketchbook, i really like this construction ethic in your drawings, very good observational skills also.
Maybe try painting more now? no other advice, really, stars from me.
Hi there! Congrats on your decisionAnd good luck! Wish I had the balls to drop it all and pursue art.
And a crit: The most common issue I see in your drawings is that you don't give the nose enough space on your faces. Careful!

The studies are looking great man, especially the planar heads! Cant wait to see all of it in some figure paintings!
