I saw this girl walking the horse up on the hill this autumn and the image has haunted me ever since. I've tried to make something out of the experience:

She was leading the horse down an extremely subtle incline that was leading to a much steeper part of the hill. A downward movement that was somehow spiritually rising at the same time.

'Girl Leading a Horse' 35cm x 45cm Acrylic on gessoed board.

    Here are four recent paintings:

'Woman in a Garden' 45cm x 35cm acrylic on gesso board
'Red Dress' 45cm x 35cm acrylic on gesso board
'Blue Girls' 70cm x 54cm acrylic on gesso board
'The Lower Garden' 45cm x 35cm acrylic on gesso board

The first painting is a continuation of the 'Twas Brillig theme, the second is a study for a bigger painting.

    Nice Work!

    Chris-

    These are vey nice!

I like the standing figure the best. Good composition, the figure placed directly in the center of the page and weighted to the right side works well. Your handling of the medium is also well done. Nice painting!

These are beautiful! Really nice, and I'm not normally a fan of acrylic.

Nice work! I like how you incorporated so much of the spectrum into the color yet kept it focused on an overall hue.

I always love your paintings. You must work very fast since there always seems to be fresh work to see.

    Colin Boyer: Many thanks Colin

Pierangelo Boog: It's possibly mine as well, but there is a little extra 'something' in that running woman that is not there in the red woman.

John English: Many thanks John, yes, getting that composition right cost me a lot of time! I'm glad you picked up on the 'weighting to the right side' since that was the main problem to sort out - getting the landscape to pull to the right and, most difficult of all, to get the play of light across her head to pull that way as well since the graphic shape of her face and hair had such an insistant movement to the left.

House Hatke: Neither am I! Or rather it is a love hate relationship which, as the years go past is slowly turning into good companionship! Many thanks for you encouragement.

Ccs: Trying to give each picture a 'complexion' without it just feeling like a colour cast is tricky, particularly when, as you say, the full spectrum is more evenly weighted. Green is a bugger too, no matter what! Many thanks.

Gilead: That's very kind of you. I don't think I work particularly fast, I produce about 20 usable paintings a year, 5 to 10 duds and hopefully at least one with something extra special. I do put the hours in though! Many thanks for your support Gilead.

Sidharth Chaturvedi: Many thanks.....I did not expect to see this thread again as it must have been on about page 3 or 4 when you picked it up! I salute your resolution to go deep into the forest to find the gold!!

Main Loop: Thanks Mr Loop! The softness thing is where the poetry of these images is really originating I guess - not as an end in itself of course, but rather as a way of unlocking or feeling out the yearnings of the unconscious when actually trying to realise the image that wants to come out.
