Are you going to TAD 2011 Entertainment Art Online??? INTRODUCE YOURSELF HERE!

Hey guys, being part right now of TAD to be a student next year, I would like to create a place in here to know each other, so the list of questions that I put here are:

    0. WHOOOO ARE YOU!!!!
    1. Where are you from?
    2. What are your TAD expectations, fears, and all the roller coaster of emotions of this journey???
    3. Are you working right know? How do you think you can manage it?
    4. Are you planning to go to US for the 3 week workshops?
    5. How the industry is moving in your country, do you think you can apply all that you're going to learn to the environment you are?

Well I think we can add more and more on the way

Mines are! Vicente Numpaque 25 years old on december! I'm from Bogota Colombia, y do 3d sculpting of characters in a postproduction company called RCN Comerciales
My expectations are everything, I'm hoping for the best, even if i'm online I want to know every single teacher and TAD, learn and make friends, I think it's important in this way that you not only think of learning but at the same time learn from other people experiences, that makes us grow a lot, We are different ages, sex, and cultures, combine all that together can be definitely a power source for what is about to come, who knows, that people that you don't know maybe can be your partner at a game studio!

At this moment for January I can't go to the workshop I need to save money, get a visa, I think that's a fear for me, to be limited when the day is coming for the workshops, also I think I would like to be present in a onsite class, that would be tons of times better. For now, my inversion in life is to get in TAD no matter how, and the online thing is the best for those who can't go onsite at this moment.

The industry here... Well I think there's a lot of movement, but there are a lot of things that need to be fixed, one of those is that we need a career, a place where people doesn't learn just a software, we need concepts, more work on ideas, that's what we need, Serious formation it's important to people.

One of my fears often comes when I think I need to get out to US to find a job, because we here are often surrounded by very little creativity from the agency s, they only look for ideas on youtube, and that can be frustrating to know that you don't have to think, you have to do what is in the reference!

Well, let's gets started people, I think if teachers can say just a little Hi here, and their thoughts on online education will be really worth!!

    Thanks

    Vincent,

Thanks for starting this post. Online education marks a shift in the traditional paradigm of Higher Education for the first time since the introduction of the Professor/student classroom model. There is trepidation in change and rightfully so. There are many programs that are problematic. Regardless of the delivery, the content is always king. Our content is direct from its source, in real time, and the delivery online delivery certainly presents a number of true benefits. It's important to note that our programs are hybrid- that is there is a real world component to them that reinforces what happens virtually, and helps to foster our community.

We have designed this education from the point of view of the Professionals involved here. The question- "If I were to attend an art school now, what would I want to see?" TAD is the answer to that question. We have built it from the hindsight of experience and success, not from projections of theory. I believe in the quality of what we are doing. The faculty care, the students are inspired and we have only started. I wish you all the best in your endeavors- just remember, that a school can only support and reflect the demands that you put on yourself. Utilize the resources and build your community within TAD. Every one of us will need it.

    regards,

    Sterling Hundley

Thanks for your Insight Sterling! I think the big breaktrough for me was in the discovery classes, all my formation in this area has been with tutorials from gnomon, digital tutors, CA.org and so many more, I have to say that they've done a great job, otherwise I wouldn't know what I know now, and I'm not meaning to learn a software...

I must say i'm more on the digital side, and getting into TAD is creating a solid foundations to improve my creations with strong concepts, put the ideas on the paper, then on the tool...

I have state here that when I bought the on demand streaming classes, even if they were on demand, just the feel of an instructor giving a class, and so many people with different doubts and ideas of a subject, changes everything, you don't get the feeling that you're just looking at a video, you're interacting, you're giving and receiving feedback instantly, internet is in evolution, and I think the next TAD online students in 3 or 4 years are going to be really amazed for the new technologies.

even if this clasess are online I think that from the moment you decide to get serious about your education, you'll give the best of yourself, and ask for the best of the teachers, the inspiration becomes massive when there are so many brains together.

    Come on!!! say HELLOOOOO!!!

    Welcome!

    Vicente-

Thanks for placing your trust in TAD!

I will not try to out do Sterling's well composed explanation of TAD's benefits. I will just second the excitement for what we are doing and how we are doing it. Both student and faculty are extremely motivated, it is evident in the quantity and quality of work the students are producing.

I look forward to having you involved in our program and wish you the same success that others are currently experiencing!

    Thanks,

    John

    1. Houston Texas, but I moved to Austin to attend the ATX POD
    2. I have every expectation and I fear nothing. I only fear that I do not hold up to my expectations. I believe in the future and I work towards it.
    3. I don't work. Soon I plan to be at a level to do some odd jobs. Maybe simple illustrations for posters and such.
    4. Yep. I hope to attend them all except I will miss one for my wedding next summer.
    5. I think I can apply it. The industry is there and now I just need the skill.

I look forward to seeing you in class.

    Peace,
    -Evan Norman

ps. Sorry for the short answers, a lot of the questions don't really apply to me since I am already enrolled in the program.

New TAD Student starting in February

    0. Hello, My name is Jad Saber, I'm 22 years old, graduated from business school last year, but had always wanted to pursue my concept art and illustration dreams. I was going to do so as soon as I got my business degree, which I just had to get due to some complex circumstances I am not going to bore you gents with.

    1. I'm from Lebanon, land of retarded people and bad internet. I will be pursuing the program from my house, whereas I would have loved to attend a pod, but it's impossible to get a visa, and I don't think I could afford moving to another country right now anyways.

    2. My expectations from TAD are tremendous, seeing how greatly talented the teachers are and how eager they seem. I also watched the on demand traditional/digital and career choice sessions, and got a taste of how cool and fun the online program could be, and how good ateachers these people are. I really don't think there is a better program to follow in the world, especially for the concept art major, and consider myself really lucky to have stumbled on it a couple of months ago (I hadn't heard about CA nor TAD before). That said I can't wait for my classes to start and am preparing myself well in the meantime.
I am also looking forward to make new friends (I know this sentence up to this point sounds like I'm in need of affection) with whom I can discuss my work and theirs in a pleasant atmosphere.
As to my fears, well, I hope I won't have to stop the program due to some unexpected event like my father going broke (unlikely to happen though) or a war arising in my country (not so unlikely).

    3. I currently have a part time job as gym trainer/graphic designer ( I don't know what I am really), except the gym is owned by a friend of mine and that I get paid $150 a month. Part time jobs have really low pay here and I can't work full time and attend TAD at the same time, especially knowing that to get better you need to keep drawing (I try to do at least 4-5 hours per day). Basically I'll be paying these per month and my father will pay the rest for three years (until I finish the program).

    4. I am going to try to attend one workshop each year, though I doubt I will be able to afford the trip, lodging, etc... Fml.

    5. The industry is practically inexistant in my country and I don't plan on working here at all. I will just dwell here till I've finished my art formation/training.

    Kind regards,

    Jad Saber

    Welcome!

    Jad-

Your excitement is wonderful and thanks for your kind words!

TAD has already created a bond among it's students, I think you will be pleased with the connection you will develop with the other students and the instructors.

Hey guys!!!! Thanks for your kind Opinions!

John, Evan, Jad! it's nice to know you all

The days are going and i'm getting anxious for february, at this moment i've done my first payment, i'm starting to get all the necessary materials, the internet at my office sucks, so i'm getting a good one just for myself, by reading Jad's opinion, I must say, you're a warrior dude!, and I just hope for each of us good things in the way to mantain constant in our education.

Well I think we should come up with some ideas to improve or add new things to the online learning, to grow faster, to keep in touch, I'll put my mind to work and sure i'll post something here!

No doubts for now, i'm just waiting, and expecting so many good things to happen.

One question for the teachers, from the beginning how do you plan to make the connection between the education and the companys or studios that would be interested in us? (Let's include and say that everybody it's gonna give it all for the best results and incredible portfolios! )

    Kind regards from Bogota Colombia

    Hello all !

    0. My name is Jeronimo Gomez, 34 years of age - I know I'm starting a little late. Better late than never.

    1. Boynton Beach, Florida USA

    2. TAD expectations -- looking forward to soaking up as much knowledge as possible from these fine professionals. Fear is tha killer of creativity so I try not to allow that to enter my mind. Emotional rollercoaster -- YES! This will be the first time I will ever have gone to art school or any school since high school and am so excited to be given this opportunity to learn from such talented artists.

    3. Yes, I work a full time job as a graphic designer and hate it.
I am going to TAD for a life/career change and I want to pursue my life long dream of drawing for a living to be able to love what I do everyday.
I will not let my job interfere with my school, this school will be the #1 priority in my life.

    4. I wish I could go to the 3 week workshop but my wallet won't let me.

    5. Can't wait to land my first job at Massive Black

See you guys online in Feburary!

    Exciting new beginning! :)

    Hello fellow classmates and teachers!

    0. I'm Belle, I just turned 26 yesterday and I bought myself a big-b day gift - TAD!!

    1. I'm from Singapore

    2. I expect to be learning a lot from TAD! Making new friends and learning from each other.

I've been looking forward to learning from a school organized by Conceptart.Org since I was 16 or so, (I remember a workshop/school called The Atelier in San Francisco and I told myself I want to go there). I've schooled and worked hard to save up enough to get here. Even though I'm spending all my savings on it, this is an opportunity I want and I believe TAD is worth it.

My fear is that I would not be able to keep up to my own expectations and disappoint myself by slacking off. Alot of emotions went into this decision, main thing being that parents/friends were skeptic about an online education with no accreditation, actually I was too.

But after speaking to the TAD staff and reminding myself that I've been looking forward to the stuff Conceptart.Org has to offer for so many years, I was convinced and confident it could actually work! The people around me now are also convinced by my confidence and so, I'm very excited to be learning art from teachers, this is a first time experience and I'm looking forward to it!

    3. I'm working as a full time writer now and it will help recuperate the negative number in my savings and pay back the loan from my folks. Though my job is very demanding, I'll try my best to juggle both as best as I can.

    4. Not going for the 3 week workshop but I hope to do so in the future!!

    5. The industry is slowly picking up here because the government is trying to encourage it but the market is still very very small. We are building infrastructure, but mindset is the key to change. It will take more than just a few years for people to start believing that art can actually be a career.

My personal ambition is to write and illustrate my own book/comic, work in a video game company or in movies/animation, one day

Hi. Some of you maybe haven't seen me around here, as I've taken a year-long hiatus from Conceptart.org, but I plan to become active once again. I can't wait to get to know all of you more!

    0. I'm Kirsten Zirngibl.
My website is http://www.kirstenzirngibl.com/ if you wanna check it out. (I have a bio on there but it's waaaaay too long...) :-/
I'm 21 and have recently graduated early from the Columbus College of Art and Design, partly so I could jump onto TAD while still having a BFA. (Yeah, yeah, I know that piece of paper doesn't do much to get a job but I just wanted to have one.)

    1. I'm from northeast Ohio. Definitely not the best place to be an artist, but I'll take it.

    2. Some of my former CCAD teachers have had negative opinions about my decision to go to TAD after graduation. It's not that they think it's a bad program, they just told me I should just go get a job instead. And while I think I possibly could land a job on my own, I'm certain it wouldn't be my dream ones.

It's just, I see sooooo much more room for growth in myself as an artist. I don't want to be "good enough", I want to be one of the best! I know I still have a lot of weaknesses, even if those teachers couldn't see them. I also think I need a more disciplinary environment for working on my book project (see #3.) From what I know about the instructors behind it, the work coming out of it, and how much effort I'm willing to put into it, I have faith that I can take my work to the next level over the next 22 months.

    3. I've just moved back home from Columbus. I'm just about to start some freelance design/concepting work for the storytelling game CthuluTech. I'm also working on a book, sort of an illustrated scifi "how it works" book for young adults. I hope to juggle both the book and freelance work while attending TAD.

    4. Yeah, at least I'm planning to attend this one coming up in Austin. (I'm a little worried about where I'll stay and what all to bring, but I guess I'll just have to do my research.) I also plan to spend some time at the PODs during the actual program, though I'll probably live at home for at least a few months first.

    5. The answer is mostly yes, though I'll probably have to move from my current location in the midwest if I decide to go the route of high-end game/film design. I feel very fortunate to live in the United States, except I am concerned with what appears to be increasing outsourcing for art and design jobs.

Studying at TAD will give you an edge in the market and making connections will be easier for your to land job in the top industries who doesn't want that!? and you will have alot of information in your arsenal from the top artists in the industry.
So yes coming to TAD is one of the sane decisions you will ever make.

Yeah, I think I forgot to mention all the industry connections this program can offer as being one of my reasons for signing on.

Starting from 0, by the way, what the hell, starting from zero?

    Who am I
Goran Milivojevic, from Belgium, originally from Bosnia.

    Expectations, fears, emotions

BAM BOOM BIM BAM!!! Those are my expectations.
My fears are way to huge, but I wouldn't be coming to TAD if I didn't know they'll help us get over our fears and everything else.
One of the biggest fears I have is that when I work at a piece I just stop working, I also almost never upload stuff, I'm always afraid a work is .. not done.
Fuck that, fuck it all, I'm going for the endgame!

    Work

Nope, I parasite off my father right now and I feel so ashamed, that's why I'll strive to be that good and hope I can later give back the cash he invested in me.

    Workshop
Yes and I'm going to try and come at least 6 months each year (unless the amsterdam pod arrives), waiting for reply for my visum, so I'll certainly be here for 3 months and if I don't get the 6, I'll just come by twice for 3 months, anyone giving up some sleeping space for this young handsome fellow?

    Local Industry

Jack, but I've got the netherlands next to me and they have a growing industry and by 2011 there will be a POD there so I'll be probably moving out there and I read Dorian Iten would be giving class there, who by the way is such an amazing, incredible, probably handsome and funny and intelligent and an all-round jack-of-all-trades person because WOW, have you seen his work?!

Pleased to meet you all .

Jawad- Glad you finally made up your mind and joined,

Kirsten- I love your work, (the orc and the troll in the coffee shop, priceless!)

Goran- A piece can be said to be never done, you can always tweak stuff here and there. But, as Andrew Jones says, a piece is done when something else grabs his attention. So, my two cents, upload it, get the useful crits, and starting working on something else.

    See you all in Feb

Guys!!!! Amazing to find out new opinions and points of view of each of you, I guess the common thing here besides our country, time, money situation and all that stuff it's that we are shooting high! I guess that it's one of the main components of this career, being encouraged by other people that even if they're miles away they feel kind of the same!

Well for me each day as reading others opinions I feel more comfortable and more secure about what is about to happen in TAD, i'm trying to keep up to date with the discovery on demand clasess, tons of information in just 3 weeks, can't even imagen how's it gonna be in 2 years and a half!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is a little update on my CA sketchbook, im trying to apply as im progressing, im a little bit slow, but Ive been progressing, ill take some photos of my pastels drawings of mark english class! and post here!
    http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=187049

Elvy I think I had the same fears as you at the beggining, but the excitement is taking over the emotions, I feel the support from my family, even my wife bought a book and a set of pastels to start my way on the career, so thats a big boost for me Im trying to keep up and not being far from the people that its getting in TAD, with so much talent you just feel forced to learn more.

Jawad Great to see that you are taking the decision to go for the thing you feel inspired to do, and I think you can combine the bussiness thing here! nice to meet you!

Kirsten Daaaaaaaamn youre one of those guys with a young age and lots of promising stuff, and one of many people that make me put my self up to date with new learning!

Goran Dude youre so far away! It's great to have so many different points of view in art and life and for sure they're going to affect our very own vision of what we are going to do and creat at TAD nice to meet you! and you know what I think I have kind of the same problem, my story is this. I had this 3d character that I worked on and on for 3 years, I always wanted to finish him but I ended up making up any kind of excuses to finish it, so finally with time and experience I did it, here is some of the progress (an old thread in CA http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=166769)

and here's the finished piece http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=909819

The point here is... Well i'm still struggling with finishing the pieces because I feel stucked sometimes in the process because of the idea, or maybe because of technical details, but I can promess that when you finish your first piece and you feel satisfied in someway about it you'll find easier to finish the next ones

Good times are coming, for now, I really wish to you all, students and teachers and hopefully my new all around the world friends a great and happy next year full of knowledge and ART!!! btw, the new artdepartment website is AWESOME!

Haha wow, you're really, really, REALLY excited aren't you?

Can't wait to meet up with you guys, sucks that you have to be 21 to drink in bars there in America, so I guess beers and such will be out of the question (not that you guys have any decent beer COUGH belgian beer rules COUGH)
And I hope the weather will be nice in Austin so that we can take a dip in some lake, nothing says 'bonding' more than being half-naked, exhausted, wet in the glowing sun (TX -> South, so I figured good weather) ♥

Yeah if anyone wants to add me on fb it's Goran La Ligne Noire (I prefer not to give out my last name on fb as I believe fb will turn out as any other mediagiant (Fox, NBC,..) and we can say goodbye to our so called 'freedom of speech')

    Hey guys!
    0. I`m Alice Araujo, I'm 20 years old and I was attending university doing a computer science major, I had jus finished my 3rd year and was going into the 4th but I'm dropping out to attend TAD hahah Yes, call me crazy.
    1. Brazil
    2. I hope to get really awesome at concept art and really learn to paint and draw the right way (my current works are here if anyone wants to check them out: http://www.alicebessoni.com/) Also one of my main reasons is networking and sucking the teachers dry of anything they might have to give me hahahah I want to finish TAD with an awesome job.
My greatest fear was not being able to pay tuition, but since the payment method changed, I can!
    3. Yes I work in the game industry as an artist, but the kinda thing I do is not what I want. In my company I make casual games and flash games (for facebook and the such). Im actually gonna talk to my boss tomorrow about my new schedule haha. Also, my entire (seriously, the entire) pay goes to my monthly tad tuition! I'm betting my all in TAD and I've never been so scared yet to enthusiastic.
    4. If I get a better job along the way, I might save up to go to a workshop. But the way I am right now, I can barely buy food lol
    5. The industry here sucks, honestly, I don't intend on staying in brazil, I want to go abroad so I can work with concept art and promotional art for big companies. I'm very ambitious!

Hey Dorian! good to have you here! pleasure to meet you!

I feel respect for each one of you, with tons of reasons and challenges to attend TAD, that makes everything worth!

Alice! It's nice that you didn't wait longer to pursue your dreams! , Hey, I've seen comparing that there's a better industry in Brazil than in Colombia, I've heard and seen work from studios like seagulls fly and Lobo. Do you know something? or what it's your perspective, cause I was thinking some time ago that I could land for some time in brazil....

Well! there is just 20 days left to start classes CAN'T WAAAAAAAAAAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Talent, I think it's more of hard work. (Or at least I hope so, because I'm not sure if I'm born with talent but hell I'm gonna work ass)
And what's even much more respectable is him also being a student, just shows how much devotion he has for art.
Man, how much we talk about him we could let the 3D entertainment students build him a statue.

True, talent emerges when you show alot of dedication and hardwork without that you won't be able to explore your full potential.
You never know enough even if we graduate from TAD in future we will always be students learning new things and Dorian is no exception that he is student himself in TAD.

Hey Guys I am very happy and excited to join TAD!

    0. WHOOOO ARE YOU!!!!
My Name is Carlos Marcello I go by Chelo. 27 years old and ready to get proper art trainning. Since a small kid I've always wanted to work as an artist and do what I loved. However, life does not turn out the way we want sometimes. But, is never to late to follow your dream. So, I have sold my cars and bought a lil beater one to be able to afford TAD
    1. Where are you from?
Born in La Paz Bolivia but raised and live in Fairfax, VA
    2. What are your TAD expectations, fears, and all the roller coaster of emotions of this journey???
I expect an awesome roller coaster and cant wait to ride it! With my schedule I will not have time for fear lol.
    3. Are you working right know? How do you think you can manage it?
Yep, I work full time 8-4:30pm, and I will be doing TAD full time via ondemmand classes when i get home. I think I should be able to manage just fine with hard work and dedication.
    4. Are you planning to go to US for the 3 week workshops?
The Richmond POD is about 1 hour from where I am, but since I work fulltime I will not be able to do one anytime soon.
    5. How the industry is moving in your country, do you think you can apply all that you're going to learn to the environment you are?
I work as a Drafting Designer at my local Gas company so I am not in the industry. However, with all the skill and knowledge I will get from TAD i am sure I will be able to use it and follow my long life dream of getting paind for what I love to do.

Cant wait to start and meet you guys!
TAD faculty, Thank you for this wonderful opportunity you guys have created for us. Quality learning is priceless.
