2nd and final sculpture class. Did a lot better than I did last week, just wish there were more classes. Definitely want to do more.

Another still life after what I learnt from Matt Kor's rendering series. . A spoon and my phone's case. Added some noise over the top because it was in the photo as well, and I like the look.

Velocity Kendall - Thanks. It was a real, messy, quickie.

From tonight's Life Drawing class. Realized that I totally prefer quicker, gestural drawings over well-rendered ones.

Some quick gestures before I get stuck into some 3D work that I need to finish. So refreshing to do these after so much 3D stuff.

Quick, loose figure study. Trying to identify planes on the body more.

I'm just going to run in and yell "contrast!" like I did last time. That figure study's got a lot going for it, but it's still way too mid-tone.

Those still-life exercises, though - the last one especially, with the spoon and the case - are absolutely fabulous, really great job.

Revidescent - You're right, like last time. I didn't realize. I looked at the value levels in PS and yeah, my value range is between 30 and 60, while the ref is around 20 - 80. I think I'm going to find some refs with heavy contrast, to get it in my head. Thanks for the comments. Always appreciated.

    Xeon_OND - Thanks, as always.

Been working non-stop on 3d stuff lately. I joined the development team working on a game called Folk Tale, which was recently greenlit on Steam. http://www.gamesfoundry.com/

There's some amazingly talented people working on it, and I've learnt a heap in the short time I've been with them.

I've hardly had time for drawing, but managed to do some quick gesture stuff while reading some of Villpu's book.

I really don't know where I'm at with drawing, or even where I want to be. I look at the recent studies I've done and yeah, they're much better than the ones before them, but it just feels like I'm decades off the sort of level that some of my favorite artists are. What's worse, I don't know what to do to improve, other than just keep drawing (but even then, I feel like I might be just drawing the same mistakes over and over.)

Think I'm going to get up tomorrow, draw, draw and draw some more, while trying to think where I actually want to go with all this.

Started working through Villpu's book again from the start. I tried ages ago, but didn't get far as I just couldn't grasp any of it. I'm understanding the whole concept of building the body with spherical shapes and finding it really helpful.

Really need to find the time to do more than just these gestures.

It's insane how much you've improved in your gestures, dude! Once again, you've proven that with determination, ANYONE can learn to draw! Comparing your gestures to those on the first few pages is so shocking!
Not only that; you're also REALLY REALLY understanding form, seeing the very last gesture drawing you did above! (the connection of the rib cage to the external obliques to the hips and the forms used for the thigh).

    Keep it up!
    Xeon

The 3D gun looks sweet. The gestures are also coming along nicely.

Xeon - Yeah, I can see the difference between the way I draw now and the way I did, but I still wouldn't say I can draw anywhere near decent. I'll see how I go with it.

ozark - Thanks. the gun was a lot of fun.

More breaking the human form into spherical shapes. They're still pretty average. Going to spend the rest of the week just doing them I think. Using the chapters in Villpu's drawing manual as a week by week plan.

What's great about your studying and professional choice mixing is that you have the great advantage of being able to create the objects that you conceive in "actual" 3d space and get a feel for how they would look at various angles. Perspective training is undoubtedly your friend here for being able to relate your 2d paper to your 3d digital workspace. So I would really delve deep into as much perspective studies as you can. Keep up the good work.
