Lots and lots of sketches, a couple of playing with watercolors, and revision on an older piece so I can feel better about submitting it to an exhibition.

This is going to be a very large post.
Kind of arranged them by content and what story they belong to. These are really just a few assignments and lots and lots of self indulgent sketches.
    Alright let's go!

Hrmmm, this stuff is all really fantastic. Lovely gallery! Afraid I can't offer much besides nice comments, not good at critiquing or pointing out weak spots x3.

Well I'm going to post some things that are lying around because it's finals crunch time and it'll probably next month before I have a chance of scanning and prepping things.

Assorted doodles, an illustration assignment, and a self portrait.

Trying to tackle so many things lately, like black and white drawing (hard) and form (even harder!)
I feel pretty confident in the realm of color and rendering, but I find it hard to determine the three dimensional form an object or person has. I have to unlearn what I thought I knew and observe observer OBSERVE.

    Self Portrait WIP

whoops forgot some of the wip shots for that self portrait.
You can really see me struggle in these haha.
Can't get anywhere if you don't try.

replacing color images with black and white gif (mostly to mask the changing light conditions of the photos)

    Photo reference.

I still realize some things are off (the eyes especially) but time was up for that side project.

Assortment of sketches that got squeezed out during finals. If it's in color, it was definitely after finals. I'll organize those some time later and get them posted. But for now we have these.

Well here I am with my monthly update haha. Mostly school projects and some smaller things related to other comic projects.

Since school has ended I haven't done any live drawings of people. (and since I've gotten my sunburn I haven't draw any outdoor drawings either. double dang) Definitely going to have to improve on all that if I want to get anywhere.

Also, thanks for all the comments so far guys.

Lots of quick stuff and what not, just trying to get back in the swing of things.
Still struggling to pin down form in a lot of ways. Also known as trying not to draw bodies and faces looking half mashed.

And some observational stuff at the end. I really don't do these enough.

Haven't posted in a few good months. Oops.
In the meantime I started a webcomic. 17 color pages. Kinda sucked up all my time so everything else I drew is simple and easy.

All of them can be read here http://halfmoon.feedmestudios.com

Halfmoon is kind of my first comic, so by default it has to accept all my bumps and scrapes. So much I want to improve. fff

    and then other stuff:

    Someone else's creature.

    Also someone else's.

Well, haven't I been gone for a long spell. :|
Lots of sketchbook stuff, finished art at the bottom along with comic pages.

Taking comic scene classes are making perspective make sense for the first time in my life.

I feel color comes pretty naturally to me, but when it comes to structure and form, boy am I lost. I do have a new sketchbook for observation drawing with nice enough paper to do washes with, so I'll hold on to the idea that practice will help me improve on that.
    But I digress.

    observational drawings

Some really old observational drawings I've been meaning to post. Now that I'm cleaning out my drawers, here they are finally.

    and some comic pages:

    Posting all the sketches.
Not much to say here. School ended, got some things done, and now I'm waiting for school to start while working on more art things.

Hey hey! Ive been tromping through here for while now, but ive never left a proper comment. It was great to watch how your characters and artistic process grew from post to post, with each batch of updates there was constant improvement! Your line work and concepts are really strong, and since you've started doing more life drawings your characters have really taken off and gotten more alive! Your digi work is solid but what i like to see best is all your traditional business. Diggin' your comic sequentials as well.

As for critiques, i dont have much at the moment, you're on the right path with all of your observational drawing as well as varied subject matter. I think yer doin' great!

Can't wait to see more~ Keep it up

Haven't updated in ages. Totally not on purpose. I think this is just an odd assortment of things, some school assignments, and then some photo studies. I'll come back later and post some more things when I have a chance to scan and format things.

Also thanks for the comment Austen. Sometimes I get to looking at old work I've done and I'm not sure if I'm really getting anywhere. So it's nice to see someone else sees the improvement.

i just love your work, its distinctive and wideranging and original. your colours are great and you tell a story really well in your comic panels.
youre fearless about tackling difficult things like people, and try lots of new stuff, but always have a nice coherent way of dealing with them.
i think you should feel proud of your work, and i hope that repeatedly clicking 5* actually does somehow register, so lots of other people get to see it too.
if that doesnt work then i hope other people will click 5*, and i hope you get lots of cool work and carry on doing a great job. if i was making a movie
id want someone as talanted and dedicated working on it. good luck!

I... I haven't done any sort of studies since a month ago. I am so shamed.
Right now though, working on a three month long challenge to develop concepts for a story I'm going to work on.

If I get all this preliminary stuff out of the way, it'll make the real work a lot easier. Also, it's really fun to try and make an environment tell a story by itself.

Mostly just a lot of random sketches until the last few things of artslam challenge.

oh ho ho, here I am again with my big ol sketch dump.
Was doing artslam for awhile there and did some more environments, but ultimately I work too much and didn't have time for them anymore.

Heh, there's kind of a trend here between drawing the same three characters over and over, mostly because I'm really busy and want to work on my own projects more than I want to develop new ideas. So much to do, so little spare time.
I guess it's been awhile since I've been here. I hope everyone's doing well. :]

I just have such the itch to paint, and none of the time for it. But the end is near, if only I can survive finals.

I've been thinking about this sketchbook and about what to post here. I would like to approach it with more concrete learning objectives, more so than I have done in the past.
I took my break and did make some more illustration type work, but it is still is severely lacking in complexity of the environments. I fail at this both in my ability to visualize environment and my ability to make it an interactive place.
Well, anyway, that's a goal for the new year.
