    Thumbs up Things and stuff

I've been needing a major kick in the butt for the past year so I'm finally giving myself a giant bitchslap and starting a sketchbook. I've been really lazy with painting and haven't actually done absolutely anything since summer so I'm gonna start painting like a maniac and catch up with the 5 months I've been wasting. Fat chance, but hey, I'm trying ;P.
Anyhow, I'll try to update daily... but as you all know, shit happens, but I'll promise to do this twice a week at the very least. Hopefully this thing will keep me from slacking off though. And if I slip, may I be brutally murdered with stolen cheese.

Hahahaha. My internet stopped working so I couldn't get in the net to post for a while... (Also, I forgot)

Anyway, as promised, I'm now going to be murdered with stolen cheese.

That shall be the mark of my eternal shame.

This stuff is from the week, I was too lazy to scan. The last picture is a kind of a ''collab'' with my little brother. He drew some of it but basically he was just telling me what to do . Maybe not sketchbook-material but it turned out pretty awesome (in my opinion) so I'm gonna post it anyway. It's a cannibal potato monster that also eats bananas.

The pictures look a bit too large because I resized them on a computer with a higher resolution screen. Should I make them smaller next time or is it too big on just this screen?

Also, just to warn you... I have a childish sense of humor. Er, yes. There's some pretty scrappy stuff in there too but I didn't post the worst pages.

Stuff from yesterday. The scans are a bit crappy... I tried fiddling with curves but some have way way way too high contrast and too much sharpen. I should probably just take photos instead. Anyway, I think my lines improved a bit on the gesture drawings, that's nice.

Aaahh, looking at them now on the small screen everything looks so crappy now. I'm not being emo, just an observation... Haha. I'll try harder to get something decent in the next post, I swear. The 3rd page at least has an excuse for the crappiness by being done with the wrong hand because my left wrist was hurting like crap. Doesn't really matter which way you do it since learning anatomy is in the head, anyway.

And the colors, wtf? They looked fine on my laptop screen but the saturation is puke-inducing on this computer. Well, the purple thing looked like crap on the laptop also but yeah, you get the idea ... Gaah!

    Heyya Saara_!

You have a great sketchbook here! So much good stuff in one page!

I love your pencil work, you have great control,
and a good idea of the range of things that one can do with one.

Your ink gestures are very good too!
You have a good idea of motion, weight, and what poses the body is able to hold realistically.

I like seeing that you are working hard on learning anatomy in a way that you can remember it.
Something that has helped me with that a lot is Riven Phoenix's Structure of Man series.
He works specifically with building a system that artist can remember and apply.
It is a super extensive course, and I haven't even gotten a quarter of the way through it!

I hope that you keep working on this sketchbook, and I will be back to see more!

Also, thanks for your visit to my sketchbook!

Sushy: Answered the question in your SB!
Greyskill: Aaahh, thank you. I'm both embarrassed and flattered at how you took your time to carefully look through everything. I appreciate it a lot . And yeah, the memorising thing is based on rote learning. Sounds fancy but it's just something I picked up in psychology class, haha. I'm just trying it out, though, but it seems to be working very well. Basically you just repeat and summarize what you've learned after short intervals, then study more (and correct the summaries if needed) and in the end repeat everything you've learned so far. No reference allowed when repeating from memory, of course. I'm sure it will work for other people as well, because it does help me a lot.

Anyhow, the original ref was in color but I tried making it B&W as a value exercise. I dug it up from booooooom.com, I just don't remember where. It was from a while ago.

And... After posting huge walls of pictures I post... A doodle. Everything else was too scrappy to post, hahaha.. ha.. ha. Stickmen.

Bahaha@ "Pencil Rendering: like carving a boat with a toothpick" I think I know how you feel.

Like yr sketchbook so far. You seem to be already developing a style that will translate really well the better you get.

I really like your flowy, sketchy lines and how you use the side of the pencil, some of your sketches look effortless in a great way. The poses on the ink figures look natural and the sketches from life have a nice sense of form. Keep up the good work with the anatomy studies too, it's nice to look at them because they're so informative. The values on the last digital study look good, the fancy brushes just look kind of distracting but of course it's good to experiment. It's too easy to sacrifice more important things for appealing strokes with fancy brushes though so look out for that and try to use them only when you have a reason.

    Great start, keep them coming!

Good stuff! Especially like the first page on #7

Really nice lines, I envy those pencils

ANIMAL COLLECTIVE AWW I love this sketch. Some charas really got the flow and it's pleasant to view because of nice contrast and shading. And I find Your style pretty Finnish, i don't know really but Finns' art i know have something in common. Lovely drawings

    Holy cow!

Tides: Hearing that makes me really happy. Thank you!
    raminafshari: Thanks!
smuli: The effortless look might come from lack of effort . But jokes aside, you're spot on about the brushes. I'll have to put more thought into that. Thanks a lot .
    Kvenh: Thank you!
hu-ha: Really? It must be the drab weather .
    Sushy: Yes sir!
dracken: I'm working on it! Thanks!

Some stuff from the week. Posting them one by one is a pain in the ass so I just threw them all together. I didn't scan everything because firstly it would be overkill to scan a week's worth of drawings and secondly it's mostly all poop. Just google ''scribble'' for an idea of what I've been up to, no joke . Pencils just feel so nice on paper so I can't help... er, feeling it up a bit. So yeah, I'm definitely not posting any of that.

I want to learn how to do CG. Woooooah.

Yaay updates! So... do you draw people sitting in trains too?
What is your strategy for that? LOL
I prefer to draw them when they sleep. Sadly not many sleep. D=

I totally love the ones with pencils and ink. ^^

Sushy: Just ignore them! People don't really care about what you do as much as you think (and if they do, they are the kind of petty people you shouldn't care for). They all see the world from their own perspective, just as you do, so in the same way they worry about themselves rather than what you're doing... Unless you look really suspicious, of course (haha). Some people are shy and don't like being drawn but there are always other people available. And after you manage to do it, it makes you feel like your (mental) balls just grew by several grams. That's a plus, obviously. It's easier said than done, though, but thinking that helps.
Parsakoira: Kiitos itellesi ! Ja joo, oot ihan oikeessa niiden varjostusten suhteen, mutta.... öööh, sanotaan vaikka näin, että.. mä.. en.. osaa... tehdä niin... Mä treenaan sitä ens kerralla, hahah!
Urötskidoji: Your name was hard to write . But yeah, thanks!
    UndeadAdmiral: Thank you!

Kind of low-quality this time, but, um, um, um... I have an ulcer, haemorrhoids and a brain sprain, yeah...

I SUCK OKAAAAY :'''(((. I want to learn so baaaaaad, aaahhg!

I wasn't that into drawing today but I did it anyway for learning's sake... And it shows. So I got mad and went to the computer because clearly studying wasn't doing me much good. And wow, digi isn't that scary after all! I've been avoiding it because I suck major ass at it but I finally realized that hell, even Alge started from the bottom. And just look at him now. Holy shit! So I figured I should just stop giving a fuck and simply go for it. Ref for the last two.

    Feil Magnus: I will .

More stuff. The scans are a bit crappy so I should probably use ink next time. These are pretty fun to do but my internet thing(?) overheats quickly so I can't draw more of these for a while .
I finally got through my sketchbook of 6 months . I'll finish my new one faster >__<. I'll paint some more today but I'll upload them tomorrow so I won't spam D:.

    Wow...

So cool! So much new stuff since my last visit!

I love all of the stuff from post 18 the best.
I like how you used ink outlines and pencil tone on the girl and the guy.
Also, the first image in the post is really awesome!

It really is great to see so much good sketch work!

Nice studies - like the paintly ones done with pencil and the hands esp.

and the last image in #24, looks really good for for what it is and how fast it feels

Thanks for posting and keep it up ~ and I often need a kick in the arse to start painting again as well, bloody annoying that I'm so damn lazy at points

lots of love from Sweden (just to lazy to change it from the Netherlands).

greyskill: They're my favourites as well. Thanks.
dan liimatta: Thank you for the encouragement.

Hurgle-gurgle. Things. I actually started from the angsty reading girl but they got uploaded in the wrong order, that's why the gestures are nicer in the beginning. Oh well. It's exam week, so I can't draw as much as I'd like to. I feel like school is getting in the way, the sob.

Oooh, and I tried hatching. It's bloody hard!!

How much time do you spend on the samurai/jap horse rider? it looks really neat and minimalistic - love everything about it save maybe the foliage of the right three that's alright (upper right), and then I like the rest a bunch .

Also cool studies ~ we like that.
