    Ellen Show Pumpkins

Hey guys, this year I was asked once again, to sculpt pumpkin portraits for the Ellen Degenerous show. It's a tough challenge because of the very short deadlines, but I got them done and delivered on time. The show taped yesterday (I was there for the taping) and it will air this Friday the 29th.

    Thanks guys.

Actually, Captian_popo, these four pumpkins had to be completed in four days, and I re-did the Vanessa William's Pumpkin 3 times. They took anywhere from 3-6 hours to complete (I really wasn't keeping track). I had a deadline to meet, so that they could make it to the show on time, and that was my focus.

However, you are right about no margin of error. Once you remove, even the slightest bit of pumpkin, you get a different shade. The way I explain it is, that you are less sculpting in pumpkin and more like sculpting with light.

    Cheers!! and thanks again.

Awesome work! And I was so proud of my ghost this year.....

So - you are actually sculping the pumpkin with a light inside - in order to see the result of each stroke of the knife?

Aseyngel: Thanks and Yes, I start by transferring the image to the pumpkin, then I do a quick removal of the whitest areas first. Then I cut open the pumpkin and thin down the inside to an even surface. Then I put in the light, and start removing pumpkin. You can think of it like drawing on a black surface with a white pen - or using scratchboard might be more accurate since it's also very unforgiving.
