Welcome!
Just by looking I can guess the women was done by reference and the marine was created from imagination. Try using the skills you've learned from drawing from pictures in your imagination work. Play with different poses and triple check your anatomy(a lot of the peices of the marine do not line up right).
Good luck and keep going at it!
Totally agree with E.C.Evil here, the woman there is great, very detailed, i'm sure with a few additional layers you could add some detail to the marines outfit, for anatomy and stuff everyone suggest books by Bridgeman and Loomis as well as the Posemaniac site, pretty much where I begun too, hopfully the stuff i've learned there will start showing when I work on my imaginitive pieces.
I've also subscribed to this thread, I've finished a degree in what turn out to be Computer Science, I was not expecting that form a course claiming to be about Computer Graphics and Games and am now hoping to some day jump into another course, Teeside is actually my top choice, would be good to know what kinda stuff they do with their students =D Looking forward to seeing your progress dude, good luck!
cheers guys, yes i agree with you, i need to invest some time into reading up on anatomy etc.
been doing a surprising about of 3d work at uni. not even touched photoshop yet and in drawing classes we've been learning perspective up to 6 point.
so all i have to show is stuff done in my free time (not alot of that) but im gona try update once a day atleast. I NEED TO.
All your works with references are nice so i think you work more from references.
trying to update lol!
did a study of a statue because tehmeh did it a while ago and im a tehmen fanboy
gona try scan so shit before next week but its all perspective crap
mmh that looks like this will turn into a really tasty sketch book. Keep it up! Hope to see more =)
I can do so little in so much time!

You feel frustrated and don't know where to turn this frustration on? No problem here is your salvation!
Just critique me in my critique thread and let it all out, please *bow*!
been doing some zombie concepts for uni, erg spend ages on the first one messing with legs and stuff, looks awful. then 20 mins on the second and havent finished yet.
saw a pic of someones workflow and copied it abit from that.
EDIT: changed the pic to show diff legs

i wish i could see the image >.< stupid computer!
re did legs after some nice soul made me use ref![]()
did another one really quick. long body is looooong
did more :3 should have fixed the body up more, but ill save that for the final i guess...
Hi =]. Just wanted to say, for you zombie transformations of the girl. I nice touch is always, basically. the more blood is visible on the body, the more pale the overall skintone should be. and also, as you get closer to the wound, the blood becomes darker, more brown/black. and maybe less reflective. Also, you can make her appear more skeletal and have things like the ribs showing.
And someone already said this, but using a reference really pushes work beyond, anything that you can do just from your mind. Its a problem I have as well. The one thing to learn is that, as you use reference more and more, after doing it over and over and over and over, and even more so, you will be able to mimic it pretty accurately. However even the pros still use reference.
Keep it up. I'll be watching. o_O
Oh and before I forget, the body appears so long because the arms, are too short in comparison, generally speaking, the elbow will be down in line with the belly button (little bit higher or lower depending on the person) and the hands will end about half-way down the the thigh. Also be careful of your widths, her right leg, at the ankle is much thicker than the left.
took advice and re arranged the character abit
did some storyboard type thing todo with the same thing, however i cant present it at uni due to a snow day
did a portrait of Humphrey Bogart ~ probably just under an hour. (my scanner killed the contrast)
and 2 pages from a few days ago...
2 unfinished texture maps
Man, nice works there.. And I reckon you'll improve really fast. Really like how you manage colors..

~FPudiU~ cheers bro
did abit of a test render still not finished512 x 512 textures and very low poly models.
did some concepts for my level design module, this is the main character.
based on the idea of inception i chose some tron like suit for her to wear in the dreams that will get procedurally upgraded.
my idea is for the blue lines to darken and go red depending on the state of her health.
nice start, what about doing some more body studies? keep it up!
DTP,
Stuff is looking good man, As others have said the Referenced stuff looks great. Definitely try some figure studies and apply them to your imagination stuff. Keep drawing!
been really busy with my uni assignments animating walk cycles etc. but heres some paint:
some stuff
I like your head construction, how about showing us the ins and outs of your body construction though? Make the two work hand in hand, all the rhythms and connections are important! Have fun with it!Love the skin tone stuff mind you
![]()
cheers JB ill try get more figures done when i have free time.
learning to use 3DS MAX to make low poly models and animating characters is taking up alot of my time so i havent been drawin muchdone some digital shit though, but not enough. that enviro was inspired by someone on here, cant remember who but i loved it!
pics are all flipped from the originals btw
Definitely on your way to grand skills man. You're grasping form and colors very nicely. Keep working on the human body. Proportions and anatomy. Try to do as much life drawing as possible.![]()
But most importantly: Keep to it!
really nice photostudies! keep up![]()
cheers guys, should be starting life drawing every monday and tuesday
