Very glad to be posting here and very glad to see all your beautiful faces.
once again it was a great year.
Over 150 self portraits here and a bunch more on FB.
We have a first time 7 year old, and first time 3D, first animation and some people who made their fisrt post on CA just for this.
Thank you all for a great Nov 1st.
See you next year.
Don't forget to spread the word - it's so much more fun with friends. This day should be celebrated in all art schools, gaming companies and such - wherever artists hang out... they should know about it.
It's free of any other means... you who took the time to do it.. know it already.

No longer the 1st, but I'm still riding the wave from yesterday. So here's my november 2nd self portrait.
Mirror + Photoshop + tablet pc
So after approximately 28 hours of rendering my self portrait (started on Nov 1st, see previous picture), finally finished. It took a long time chewing on 20,000 scanlines of 1080p material, but it's finally done.
Here's a link to the video:

About what's going on here:
For the last few years I've been using this day as a way to push myself to experiment and try new and sometimes strange things with different mediums.
This year I have been having a great deal of fun and a little brain pain dealing with the concept of time being nonlinear. Which inspired me to create a slit-scan self portrait.
Slit-scanning (in motion) is a technique where usually a single row of pixels, or a "scanline", is displayed and then the next row or column is presented from another portion shot at a different time. Thereby distorting not only time, but also space if the subject is moving. This particular video shows both horizontal and vertical techniques on a 7 minute long shot.
Since I was inspired by time I also decided to create a small piece of music utilizing some temporal concepts.
-The percussion bits are polyrhythms at 5x3x4, 5x3, 7x4, 7x3, and additive 5x2.
-The higher pitch noise you hear is one sequence pushing through a retrigger, shuffler, delay, reversal, loop, and other effects at random to create the pattern after the first 4 bars.
-The lower bass tone is being pushed through a phaser effect matched with chorus and reverberation.
Thanks for watching.
Phil
such an amazing ide!, i wish i had more time to join in on the fun

'Now you can find the others, you don’t have to stick a flower in your hair and go to San Francisco. You just go to the Web. Find the others. We all need to create affinity groups which are subsets of the much larger community that we’re part of. And then, using this technology, which was designed to keep track of us, to pick our pockets, and to sell us junk we don’t want, use this technology to produce art. Massive amounts of subversive art.'
Totally late, but what the hey! Any day of the year is a good day for a self portrait.
I wish I had seen this thread a few days agoThis is a self portrait I did today.

Eehhh...better late than never.
The line art was done the night of November 1, but I couldn't get back to do the cross-hatch until this morning.

Wow I am such an asshole for not finding this thread on time!
I do however have a really old portrait from 2007-2008, and a little logo with my face on it for my facebook art page. I will paint new ones for next year now that I know such a tradition exists...
