your best work is sketching and colour studies from life.
youve definitely got the knack... the proportion/spatial relation thing... im not great with words but you know what i mean...some people never get that, for some reason, ever..
great start, keep it going and youll be kicking serious ass in no time.

@AmandaMeyers: They were supposed to have the same gesture, but I could not manage to make it the same (one was done on "scrap paper" and I wanted to have it on different paper but I couldn't make it the same so I kept it on the "scrap paper"). Anyway I tried your suggestion and "acted it out" in front of a mirror. After that I made a new sketch. I also inked the old sketch but I think I like the new sketch more.

@Velocity Kendall: um the bird and hamster actually weren't from life ^^; Though it is my hamster, I just took photos of it because it moves too much. Anyway the "proportion/spatial relation thing ", I am not really sure what you mean with it, is it... like "making it believable a certain object is in a certain space (of the picture)"?

    Teeeheee updatessss
First of all, something I am working on... It is a vector. This is only a part of the image.

Then... that first sketch I inked. Which I do not like anymore, but I am showing it anyway...

This sketch is messier and newer and I think I will ink this one instead (it is made after reading AmandaMeyer's critique).

"Anyway the "proportion/spatial relation thing ", I am not really sure what you mean with it, is it... like "making it believable a certain object is in a certain space (of the picture)"?"

No, (switches on brain) simply that to replicate a 3d object like a face in a 2d surface you need to accurately judge the spatial relationships and orientations of the various components from a particular point of view. A drawing of a face where the angles of and distances between the features is inaccurate, or the perspective forshortening effect is misjudged, looks strange and often ugly. These processes are difficult and complex at a nuerological level, and many people fail to successfully complete them.
You seem able to work these processes well, and so the objects you draw are proportioned correctly; cars are recognisable down to the make/model level, animals are the right shape, and faces are (largely) not mutated. An example of where this process went ary is in the latest update, the guy lying down's face is wrong and looks bizarre.
Similarly light shadow and colour are replicated accurately and so believably. Or in shorthand, you have a good eye. When you get the hang of replicating the real, you are primed to start manipulating it, and expressing your imagination in a realistic and believable way. So good work, keep it up, and enjoy your future success.

@Velocity Kendall: So that is what it is, I never really thought about things like that xD I am glad to hear I sometimes "get" the shapes right (that is how I call it I think. Or I call it the act of replicating the projection the eye makes... LOL I am not good with words it seems), but judging from some of my common mistakes there is still a long road to go XD

I'm interested in that Vanderpoel guy, have to check him out !

Anyway Sushy it's always a pleasure to come by and see how motivated you are, and how you're improving, and ho god, I hope you'll keep it for years !
I think it'll be really interesting to see how your cartoon/manga style will mix with all you'll have learned from "classical" drawing.

    Anyway, keep rocking ! =)

@Shad: Yeah that Vanderpoel is pretty good. However I never tried reading the text. It is soooo boring. I just draw the images of the book.
Yeah I am also curious which style will come out of this...

So here is a new update...
I ran out of words so I just post a song that inspires me.

Today I tried to draw a paprika and an apple. I am more content with the paprika than the apple xD

And finally, a work in progress.
I am struggling with the colours and such... Please let me know what could be better XD

Oh man, Sushy last time I came by I was in a hurry so I just watched the last page. But I didn't see Loomis and still life stuff from page 7 and oh god.
What a crazy improvement in Loomis things. Looks like you're getting that "pen mastery" which brings your drawings a "free" touch thingie. Don't know how to explain that. I mean I think you struggle a lot less when you make a study, don't you ?

Anyway, you're craaaaazy with work. Very, VERY inspiring.
Everytime I drop by, I'm like "Yeah, that's the spirit, I'm gonna start rocking those sheets too ! " And then I just hang out with friends and end up with nothing done, whereas you've produced something like 3 or 4 pages.
    I mean, COME ON.

    You're crazy, aren't you ? : D

    I'll be back, Sushy. : D

@Shad: haha I still struggle a lot when I study. I think drawing is always struggling (with lines). It is something like a fight. Something like wrestling. LOL I am almost sounding like a guru now.
Anyway... Am I crazy? Well I do not know, it depends on how you define "crazy". If crazy means "I want to become the best NO MATTER WHAT" then I am certainly CRAAAZXZZZZZZYYYY.
And I am also trying to learn Russian because it's cool. I guess that is crazy too.
I cannot remember the letters though. That alphabet is so hard. I must say learning Greek was easier, but yeah that was in school.
    (talking too much)

    Moving on to the updates......

@Creusa: привет! Yeah I am busy learning mooooaarrrr Russian Too bad I cannot type it with this keyboard though =P
More reflections you mean? Oh noes where to add those... XD I am so clueless with this painting. o_0 thanks for the tips!

Not so much to update with today. My drawing hand/arm hurts so I have to take it easy with drawing. Which SUCKS I mean without drawing I am useless. D=
But yeah I do not want it to get worse T_T I only have one hand to draw with. I should learn it with my left hand too. But my left side is not very... advanced...

    First, some doodling:

then a really bad Loomis page:

Size: 72.8 KB
I have no idea what rhythm in life drawing is btw. If somebody knows it, please tell me. I have no idea what Loomis means. I just drew the figure, but I do not understand how to involve rhythm with this.

    And an update on that piece I am working on. Critiques would be appreciated. ^^;

Yeah a lot more volume in the last update of your painting !
Hey, how do you learn Russian ? websites or something ? It looks interesting ! : D

Why is your arm hurting you ? : O I really hope it's not a serious thing !
Letting the injury go and slow down your drawing rythm is a good and wise choice. Hope It'll go soon !

I laughed very hard at the "my left side is not very... advanced" xD But yeah trying to learn drawing from both hands must be freakin awesome ! I always told myself that I'll do it when I start being good enough (which will probably never be so I'll have to do it before but anyway)

There are some problems with that last loomis, but I think rythm is that kind of thing you understand one day, like "oh snap I understood it all in once while sketching some chipmunks fighting, now I'm gonna rule the world !"
Anyway keep pushing and every single piece of knowledge about rythm or whatever will one day be yours !

Most of all, good convalescence Sushy !

@Shad: I learn Russian by reading the alphabet on Wikipedia and randomly translate things from Russian CA members in Google Translate. It is not the best method I know.
I think I may have overstressed my arm, it started at Friday... I use my right arm for almost everything so that could be the reason. Now I try to use my left more but again, I hardly have any motor skills in my left side so that will be terrible in practicing... XD
So yeah I will have to take it easy... Which is hard for me since I never do that.

    Les updates and randomness:
Well, first some inspiration by the glorious Funker Vogt.

And then... hands studies for the study group. I did these previous week.

Handstudies are cool but they lack of a bit of volume ! Try making bigger ones with placing volumes before shapes !
Keep it up, and starting left hand exercises is cool ! :p

Hey, that's a cool feline right over there! I think you nailed the colors nicely in that one, hats down for ye.

Not sure if a hurting hand is a good sign or not (is there too much practice?), but I'm glad its better now.

You seem to be struggling a bit with those nude poses, maybe more will help you get that elusive rhythm thingie?

Anyway, etttooo sparta! If you need help with russian (or drawing, not that I really believe that I can teach you - but whatever) you know where I'm at

    SO FINALLY
    an update
I have so much to scan
It will take me several days.
Today I only got around scanning my Visual Diary so I only show pages of that.
    All from imagination. And traditional.
Various media, I even tried water colours. I think water colours are the hardest things to paint with.

I have done way more than this, but I do not have the energy to scan that right now :V

Hey, vacation? I'm sure you had fun, although it doesn't show in the drawings. The watercolors look... versatile.

    So, about Russian -

the ь is the softness sign and ъ is the hardness sign. Use ь to soften up a prefixed letter (it applies to consonants, or at least most of them) like-

коньяк (cognac) - with the softness sign it is read as koh-nya-k. (or something like that).
without it - коняк (which is no longer a real word) - konn-yak. The softness sign makes an easier and a smoother transition over a consonant.

The hardness sign is rare, I can't recall words that have this sign out of the top of my head. BUT according to wikipedia this hardness sign is used as an apostrophe to sign a separation (or a break) in the word (like you get in english sometimes, or at least using english alphabet. Silly example: Do'Urden).

I'll be happy if a more knowledgeable russian will correct me on these two. I mainly speak Hebrew in my daily life, russian is a language I rarely speak now.

Is this conceptart anymore? Ahem! J/K.

huha Thanks, oh yeah that art student owl is so funny

Kerah that clears some things up Oh well I will not get to speak Russian anyway, there are no Russians where I live xD I just think it is cool to be able to translate certain languages. Gah I am weird xD So I guess you live in Israel then, if you speak Hebrew

Liberty thanks, I often hate pencils to be honest xD I must get better at them indeed D=

Anyway... Updates! First four images are done on vacation. I have so much more to scan :V Most is from life.

Last one is a new painting I am working on. It is not finished yet. I also recorded a part of the process of it today on my livestream.
    http://www.livestream.com/fantasypow...edium=ui-thumb

Oh and that was it. I should scan more next time, there are like... 36 unscanned pages left.

    Hi Sushy
Your work is defiantly improving. Keep up with the studies I too need to do this.
Soon I'll start with colour any tips?

Keep practicing man. I think you know what you need to do and you're doing it.

Creusa Yeah those are some random Russian words :V so if I ever end up in Russia I at least can say Twitter. That may save lives don't you think

Samurai_Nik Thanks! Ummm I do not have much tips for colouring but I would suggest not to use the colour picker tool all the time xD (ok I use that thing too much myself as well).

ZombieGrub Thanks! I sure will keep practicing!

    Le updates!
    More from the Italy sketchbook.
And an update on that livestreamed thing I am working on :V
Critique would be appreciated. I hate perspective and bookshelves.

The last few updates are really good, you really like pens, huh?
The bird person drawing drawing looks very detailed, congrats on challenging yourself with a fully detailed environment (I find these extremely hard!).
For a strange reason I find the paper stacked on the desk somewhat confusing. Mmmm corn!
