I have just set the graveyard concept piece as my desktop image. I was wondering if you have high quality prints I can buy for my house as I've pretty much fallen in love with your game and work.
Thanks so much Wozza! I am so glad you like the work. We put a lot of love into these images and it is always great to know that the art is resonating with people. Thanks again!
Prints for sale? There is growing interest and the idea of doing some limited edition prints of some of the images has been tossed around, but we haven't gotten there quite yet. I will let you know.
Take care and thanks again,
Brian
Another image from Dark Flight- This is a room in the Library. After catching several flying books and jumping into a pop-up book yourself, you figure out a way to open the doors you enter this magical childrens' reading room.
The other image is of the Enchanted Forest. (After you determine a way to enter the mural on the back of the curved wall of the childrens' room.)
Thanks!

Awesome work, Brian. I'm glad to finally see this out! I've said it before and I'll repeat it here, you guys need to do a "art of" book for those games!

and triple-post. I swear I wasn't trying to be literal.

I was wondering what your basic rules are when starting your document up ready for painting i.e document size, colour mode and what dpi you paint at...
Mind blowing collection. I hope you definitely make some printed pieces of your work so I can put them in a beautiful frame in my Creative room and my living room!
This is a painting I did from the first Drawn: The Painted Tower. It has never been shown all together like this. This is showing 3 vertical screen transitions.
p.s. Wozza- To answer your question, all images are generally painted in Photoshop, RGB, at twice game size so in this case 2048x1536 at 300 dpi
*(The attached image of the tree is 3 screens tall)*
Hope you enjoy!

I really like your last painting - the one of the tree. I think that's one of the best paintings I've seen this last month. I admire how you're able to always tell a story in your artwork. It makes your paintings so interesting to watch!
I now wanna ask you one of those questions I hate to be asked myself: How much time do you usually spend on one painting? I'm especially curious on the idea/concept process - do you spend a lot of time on it?
Thank you SandraKristin! One of the main goals for in this painting was to create a lot of curves to carry the eye through the image. Again, this was painted all together but then broken up into 3 screens so the player never sees this full image in the game (except as one large canvas hanging on a wall)
I think this painting probably took a month all together. But I was working on many other things at once. The concept sketch and color comp stage is usually about 3 days to one week or so. The final painting can take anywhere from 1-3 weeks depending on game-play and complexity.
Let me know if you have any other questions

Thanks so much Daniel!
Very nice work, I love the range.
Hi Brian, was just watching the trailer for Drawn - I was wondering what software you used to animate your digital paintings? Theres a scene where a character turns into ravens which animates out of the screen... I was wondering how you achieved this? Also the pop up book scenes etc.
BTW brought the game the other day and myself and my girlfriend are hooked on it! Amazing.
Hi Wozza, those scenes were created in Adobe After Effects by our awesome animator Rebecca Coffman. She would animate in Maya and capture footage that would then by brought into AE to be animated using scene artwork that the scene artists would provide. She and fellow animator Mike Baran made some really amazing animations and effects for the game.
Thanks for getting back to me Brian, really useful information and OMG the animations are beautiful! I'd love to work on a project like this one day! or more realistically build a website for a great subject like this.
I think your style is just perfect! I would love to work for you guys![]()
