    Metal Cover?

I was so inspired to do a cool and awesome guy when I was listening to some heavy swedish melodic death metal. This is as far as I got today with it. I'm starting to like it so much I'm going to finish it.

He's going to be standing on a rock. in a big storm, maybe some burning buildings in the background.

Ok ok so I did a quick thing. The black on his tunic has too bright highlights.

nice! looks good! It might make him look a little more brutal if he has his head tilted down slightly, but his eyes still looking forward. Also, try making his arms raised a bit more in a V shape, but only slightly. I feel like it would be very uncomfortable to have your arms perfectly straight out like that while holding objects, specificly heacy ones like the battle axe. Good work so far.

I have done some death metal cover art before, check it out.

By the way, what band was it that inspired this? My guess: Decapitated

Kenneth- Thanks man. I choose the arms like that because I like the cross shape. And the heavy halberds shaft is going to reach the ground, so he's not holding it up.
I'll condsider the open eyes, but I like his "calm in the storm" feeling.

This is what usually gets me going. Hope you like!

Dråpsnatt ("Murder night" swe): very atmospheric black metal.

Skogen ("The Forest" swe): Under Fullmånens Sken (Under the Fullmoons Shine)

Myrkgrav ("Myrk Grave" nor): Tjernet (The Lake)

Dark Tranquillity (swe): The Treason Wall

Amon Amarth (swe): Asator (Thor of the Aesir)

    Cool idea!
About the head tilting. Was thinking, if you want a "calm in the storm" feeling, maybe he could tilt his head back a little, with a face upwards, with closed eyes. Just an idea to play with

Vanaga- Thanks, though I think he would look too relaxed and in harmony. I'm more after a meditating/ focusing feel. Like he's collecting his "chi" kinda thing, for his next move.

Been bussy all day, this is what I managed to squeeze out.

lobster007- could you explain what you mean more accurately? He is standing straight and still with his heels togheter. One knee is a little bit bent.

I love this image - musically inspired creations are so often superior to our usual conscious work. I especially love the rendering on his face. In the interest of maintaining this superiority and in seeing this picture done perfectly I would like to suggest the shortening of his arms, which, while okay in the sketch, seem to have grown via rendering.
