    Thanks ven & Julius!

    Started a larger still life tonight, started off with a line drawing so pardon the slight change in look.
    Shall continue tomorrow

    Quick mini master study. Trying to think more about what im doing, and why, rather than mindlessly copying down what i see. Enjoying these studies more and more each day.

    Still life is gorgeous. Thank you!
    merl1n Cheers for the kind words

    Now for a failed self portrait with a womans face and wonky features. 4 or so hours, never going to attempt to paint something like this in natural light, english weather doesn't want to keep the light consistant. ._.

    Was so disgusted at the last, it motivated me to try another. About two hours so far, but i cant be arsed fixing the terrible lips and such, as per usual.

    Why aren't I thinking in planes. ;_;

    1 hour value self portrait and tabla -

    Colors are looking really desaturated, constantly repainting sections due to changing light levels turns it into a right mess.

    @SamC Cheers man

    Im taking break from studies to work on starting pieces from imagination, mostly sketching figures in pencil, but im trying to do some doodles in photoshop too. I think they are improving.

    This one was going OK until photoshop crashed, luckily I got a screenshot of the WIP, but at pretty low res, didn't take it much further.

    Desperate need of improving:
    Mouths
    hairlines
    necks
    noses
    armpits
    everything under the sun.

    really nice studies man, those sketchs have some great quality of line, looking forward to seeing more.

    If you have the eyebrows raising above the eye socket instead of following the bone strcuture and raise and soften the chin, she will have much more feminine features, but looking nice dude.

    @mane Thanks for the crit! i was trying to give her a frown but totally lost the facial structure underneath it. Gotta keep at it though so more failures shall be on the way, chins are on my to-do list

    I hate woking unreferenced, its to alien to me at this point. so here are three quick WIP doodles to destroy any dignity i may still have left.. I enjoyed the room, the focus was the lighting, the design is non existant and the perspective if off everywhere, but i like the look of it (I think)

    Going to start focusing my studies towards actual goals...

    Hey there BHCS,

    Good stuff, strolling trough your Skb I can tell that you are learning, your still lifes are amazing.

    This being said, stop beating yourself up and post some more. Objective self-criticism doesn't have to be negative.

    @Tea of Doom Thanks man, the only self criticism i know to do is negative so that may be a bit hard to adjust to

    Mm dude start setting yourself a brief and doing thumbnails! Sketching with no real cause but to see what you've maybe learned from your studies will only end up with you painting self portraits of you in a costume in a chair. Makes more sense to know what you wanna paint. Say it's a greedy rich priest, do a ton of thumbnails until you have the best image, and then apply your studies while you paint it to to context stuff that matters: old people, fat people, priest garb etc Try checking out illustrations you like and seeing what makes them work besides just a technical standpoint

    Thanks Sam, focusing my studies on actual goals is my biggest problem but I will try to keep at it as best as I can.

    Ive decided to take some time away from conceptart and other sites, Im only distracting myself and annoying people so im taking a bit of time to break bad habits and work on my own. Reddit account is gone along with a few other time-sinks that I cant help falling back into. I shall not be posting here for as long as possible. Until then, early mornings, exercise and studies.

    Im back!

    Phew, almost half a year since the last post!

    Its been a good few months. Went to live in panama for a bit, did some traveling and am just getting settled in Uni. I dont have much work that im proud to post as its all been pretty experimental, and Uni is taking a lot of my free time. But here i go anyway, 4 of the more decent pieces

    The last piece is a Sargent study - The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit
    Thanks for your comments, but I dont think I will be going back to those older pieces, too many issues to fix!

    Been working on this on and off for a few days, had enough of it for now though - Moving onto something new, not much point in repainting the same section 10 times and not learning anything new.

    This last one looks like it could be improved pretty simply, just by separating different elements into foreground, middleground and background. So far most of the environment is a bit messy and seems to blend too much all around. For example, the big tree on the right and the background behind it are too similar in value. It flattens things out. Keep it in mind for the next one, if you're not going to work on that one anymore. Cheers!

    Long time no update again. Been working on Oils - Only sharing one of the more successful pieces to come out of it. Done from life in 3/4 days

    Many thanks

    Cheers!

    @razz
    Thanks for the crit, I started off with pretty well defined value ranges but I guess somewhere in the middle of the painting they got a bit messed up. Shall try to keep things more defined next time.
