Vanja Todoric Art - UPDATE 21.03.2013 (Serbian Fairytales - The Golden Fleece Ram)

    Hello there,
I decided to put all of my work in one place, so from now on you' can check all my new stuff in this thread.

    Little Red Riding Hood

Little Red started off as one of the tasks I was doing for my Academy studies,
my Professor really liked it and suggested to do a storyboard for the entire fairy tale.
In this version there is no hunter who comes and rescues granny and the little girl in the end, ... wolf eats them, story over.
This is the main reason why the girl has a scull instead of a face ( a "walking dead" metaphor), and why all other illustrations are present in a more spookier manner.

Goldie Locks And The Three Bears

Here is the final image i have submitted for the CGsociety XXIV "Secret Agent" challenge.

    Concept:

    - The World famous POTATO PORRIDGE factory gets a anonymous tip of a "Mama Bears Home Made P.Porridge" that tastes so good, the sources say it may endanger the existence of their factory and brand.
    - After losing trace of six of their finest agents, the board of directors sends agent "G" (aka Goldie Locks) to try infiltrate and steal the recipe for "MBHMPP".
    - While The Bears are away, agent "G" sneaks into their home, finds the recipe but the problem suddenly appears ... the SECRET INGREDIENT part is missing

    - In order to find out what the secret ingredient is, she starts tasting the porridges served on the table. They taste so good but she is unable to make out the secret ingredient part.
    - All of a sudden her eyes feel very heavy, she tries to fight it as long as she can, but eventually she drops on the bed near by, and in that moment the missing pieces of the puzzle reveal the horror, that is her soon to be future ...

    - The bears are the ones responsible for the anonymous tip, bears are the ones who tricked agent "G" into tasting the porridge with the sleeping potion in it, and the secret ingredient, ... secret ingredients are secret agent body parts

    Hope you guys like it,
    Vanja

You are very good at making alternative versions of famous fairy tales. I especially love your version of Goldie Locks And The Three Bears.
You certainly shoud keep up with this concept, and make many, many more, creatively twisted ilustrations for beloved fairy tales.

Nice job. How much of this was actally painted ? It feels like a lot of collage went in there. Looks good anyway.

Some info: The original version of the fairytale had no hunter in it either. But the publishers in France (if I remember it right) just added him, to get a happy end. So you are basically going back to the roots. ^^

bhanu: thank you very much! i will forward your kind words to drbibin, i'm sure he will be pleased

Vaejoun: there are my first illustrations done in the mixed technique, so the amount of painting and collage is about 60 - 40%
And yeah, the whole concept behind reinterpretation of well known fairy tales i just that, to show them in their original context.
Because it is a well know fact that in the old days they were told to youngsters to try scare them of from doing crazy stuff, in this case, wondering alone in the woods or talking to strangers

Very nice work. Good style and I was always a fan of the original, scarier tales so this is great to see. Keep up the good work and I hope you will have more to show us soon.

Really great work ! Really unusual and inspiring. I especially like the way how you mix up painting and collage-like techniques. The first little-red piece is my favorite, and you managed to make her face look cute, despite being made out of a skull. Great work !

    The Little Match Girl

Hey guys, long time no see
This is the illustration i did for the CGsociety ''DreamScape'' challenge.

I'm sure most of you know the fairy tale ''The Little Match Girl'' by Hans Christian Andersen.
Well, my story begins when this one ends.
When the last match is out, and there is nothing else to keep her warm in this cold winter night.
When she finally closes her eyes and drifts away in her last ice cold dream ...
Here, in this dream, she will take her last stand fighting off cold, but unfortunately we all know how this dream is going end ...

    Fun fact,
last three days of the challenge it was snowing like crazy here in Serbia, and they said that it will stop snowing the exact same night the challenge was scheduled to end.
This is cool because The Little Match Girl was a story i tried to do so many times, (i think i started the first one for the B-movie challenge), and it seamed like she was cheering for me to finish it those last few days.
When i submitted my entry, one hour before the deadline, not 20 minutes past, and it stopped snowing.
I remember smiling and thinking that maybe with this illustration finally finished, I’ve put her tortured soul to rest

    First thing came to mind.

    Don Bluth.

"Everything must serve the idea. The means used to convey the idea should be the simplest and clear. Just what is required. No extra images. To me this is a universal principle of art. Saying as much as possible with a minimum of means."
