Amazing work! The textures in your brush work are great. I'll have to work way harder to catch up!

    thanks seaport, lemming-clone!

Just got done with this, i was inspired by LINRAN and some of the surface effect he'd use, so learnt alot about the medium! I think thats one thing realistic art is good to show is creative surface effect or use of medium.

Also i've never been good at getting the shapes of blown out light patches- the edges often have tricky colors/effects, so this was real good practice for that.

Wow, lemur. I really like this.
There is definitely Linran to be found in that piece, but somehow together with your style it makes this great blend of rough textures with reality. fantastic!

thanks Luckers! I think these brushes i've been using have some sortof rough quality to them, i envy people like jama who have a super smooth swoopy style with their brushwork. Damn digital Boldinis haa!

a couple speedies, tryin to be more thoughtful yada yada. One thing i've learned is to review my notes on painting when i first start sketching- there are so many ideas it takes about 3 hrs to remember everything if i don't review while i'm doing it.

    alizak-thanks!

tehmeh-haha welcome to my tiny internet corner, thanks, and you're welcome (snark snark)!

Velocity- don't worry, if i learn any of that style i'll learn a new un-style of ugly brushing to balance it out.

speaking of brushing i had a few deep thoughts i'd like to leave here

haha! I fucking love that comic man
Seems like a great way to teach the kids how to paint digitally.
Maybe a bit too agressive for the really young ones, but it might teach me a lesson or two!

Hey Lemur, the updates are looking great!
Except for the dark helment dudes, if I may be so blunt. They don't read very well. I dig the mood and the design, but the edges are really too messy.
I love the traditional work above it though. What a great wet mess! It reads a lot better to the eye.
    take care

thanks Luckers! yeah, those dudes are too raw...makes me think about edges, for sure something to start classifying edge situations. I haven't been thinking/studying edges near enough- perhaps because really refined edge thought comes from finished work-but edge quality is still a huge thing in simple work. Like edge quality is primary to edge detail...

I started getting into Moebius' work now that he's dead, it'll be great to ad this influence to the mix. I figure i'm a copy-cat artist, and the way to find 'originality' is to copy a weird combo of masters lol. Also i wonder how big an influence he was on Michael Kirkbride (morrowind concept artist), who i can't find alot of info on. I was playing some morrowind lately and it has a very similar weirdness to Moebius' stuff.

also, since i'm doing the linework, i figure i'd balance it some with moody light/atmosphere type stuff- wondered if i could light a pretty empty room well....need alot of practice

Very nice stuff, you have this "great looseness" yeah.. to hell with spelling!!!

and yes, moebius was a great master, often outlooked by the professionals, specially regarding color theory which he excelled at, the more you look at his stuff the more you realize how insanely good he is with color

    thanks jedininjaman, and Whitevillage both!

f1x-thankyou, yes i love Moebius' use of color, and also use of space, which is funny considering that neatly delineated style. it really works though! alot of depth indication, and a wonderful style of simplification of course.

some stuff from life. I know i suck with watercolor, hope to get better with the wishy washy though! too bad i can't paint branches with it, i was trying to drag a pocketknife through the paint but it really doesn't work so well lol-

Oh.. my.. god! I know this is a little old but your picture of the man with cards and the blown-out light portrait are both soooo ridiculous.. Your colours are fantastically placed. I'd love to see a nice fleshed out comic book by you!
