    BarryMcW's Sketchbook

Thanks for checking out my sketchbook.

I'm a motion graphics art director and designer in Los Angeles. I'm considering a move into VisDev. This here's my sketchbook.

My "main" sketchblog is over here. My first couple CA posts are just going to duplicate some of that content but my plan is to use this sketchbook for even looser, less finished stuff than I put up on SketchyRobots. We'll see how it goes.

And for my first post, robots!

All brush pen in my "car sketchbook." I don't use it for drawing cars. I can't do that to save my life. Instead I keep it in my car and pull it out when I might otherwise pull out my damn phone and play a game or check email.

Quick Photoshop underpainting on an older ink sketch.

Should be able to spend some more time on it this weekend.

    Cheers

    'Bot painting update

Got some work done on this guy, around bits of coughing & dabbing a runny nose. Grumble.

Lost a little color saturation in the screengrab & it shifted a bit from orange to a muddy yellow. I'll figure out how to post more accurate color in future posts.

    Comments, crits, etc. all welcome.

love the simple ink stroke styling in your sketch. and the robot has somewhat retro feel to it.

@dirtysox - Thanks. Yeah, sometimes I think I value a cool brushstroke more than decent form/anatomy. This isn't a good preference. I need to double-down on basic structure.

And here are a couple cafe sketches, brought over from my sketchblog. New, new content, just for ConceptArt.org, coming soon!

A couple sketches from the last few days - some folks from the coffeeshop near work & a lady from the morning dogwalk.

    More soon.

    At work on a Saturday

Ugh. I had to go into work today. The only upside of which was that I left the car at home and took my bike & the train. Yes, there is a subway in LA.

Here be a couple sketches from the way in. All Pentel brush pen in a Moleskine Cahier. Sketching on the train is tricky. It just keeps moving!

    Holiday Bots

I don't know why but I got the idea to paint a bunch of Holiday Bots over the weekend. I like some of these more than others. Maybe I'll give a couple away for Christmas.

Watercolor, Copic marker & brush pen.

    Mistletoe Monster

My day job is kicking my ass and my folks are in town. As such, drawing & painting are taking second chair lately.

    Grumble.

But here's a mistletoe monster. All he wants is a kiss.

Prismacolor, pen brush & Copic Sketch marker.

    RoboPaint Update

Some good holiday times, some not-so-good holiday times. Ugh. Christmas is hard.

Small update on a robot painting. Hoping to get some cafe sketching done tomorrow & waiting for my favorite local life drawing session to start back up soon.

And I'll figure out the color-shift thing soon. These colors don't match what I'm seeing on my screen.

    Cheers

Fun stuff in here. I really like the holiday bots, especially treebot. .
Only suggestion is your thread needs more studies.

Haven't posted in 2 weeks. Ugh. I've been busy though, so hopefully I'll get around to updating more frequently.

I went to life drawing for the first time in a long long and came away with mostly bollocks but a couple things that I'll share.

And yeah, @Rhubix, I totally agree RE studies. They're on my agenda

I'm working on some other stuff that I'll share soon, but for now, here are some folks that I see when I grab some sunshine during lunch.

Color and figure studies to come, I swear!

    Blarg.

Been smacked down by a bit of sickness but here's a grab bag of sketches...Some people from life & magazines, some hands, a couple random shape explorations...I dunno. Stuff.

Should be painting again this weekend & hope to post progress soon.

    Updates from my pocket sketchbook

I use a Moleskine journal as my wallet so I always have paper with me. I just filled up my most recent one & scanned a few pages. Mostly all are brush pen gesture sketches of the folk I see out & about around Los Angeles, my fair city.

    Part one of two.

    Enjoy

Robots and a book of robots!

I've not shared as much of the robot book here as I should have but I'm trying. I came late to CA.org I'm trying to be a better CA community member, really, I am!

So I launched a Kickstarter to print a book of robots and I thought I'd share some of the pics here. They're WIP but I'm closing in on a print date of later this month. The Kickstarter's funded but, of course, ya'll are welcome to join in the fun!

    But on to the pictures...
