k here are some more that I've done, trying to do these studies to get into college (I am 17 and a senior) and hoping for a scholarship (fingers crossed, we'll see if i am good enough). Please comment and critique, 'cause I need feedback to improve my work, and hopefully get into a good college with a scholarship =D

Jonathan C: thx I definitly will keep those studies comin and make my portfolio Awesome!

tried to do quick thumbnailed sketches (each one is about 15 min) and establish values. I don't think it worked T.T but i might try this later (hopefully with better results)

anyway these sketches were to try out different perspectives of a concept I had, I think the top right or the bottom left would work the best.

Also the bottom one is a piece I am working on, while I think it's getting there, it still feels like it's missing something

some more quick life studies and sketches, it's good practice but i am not really liking the results (at least values were pretty close) probly cause i didn't sketch it out first >.<

Your B/Ws are great! A little more sharper detailed ones would be sexy! Lovely work, keep at it!
Don't bother looking at my sketchbook. I haven't updated that thing in years. :/

I'm actually going to stop lurking to post on your SB! Gasp!

For your thumbnails, i think the bottom left is the best; the view from the back just seems a bit more engaging than viewing both figures from afar (but that's just me)

You said your teddy bear pic was missing somethin'. I don't think I have a clear idea what it needs, but my intuition says it has something to do with the floor and maybe the bear needs to look more menacing...like bigger maybe.

mug = pretty cool; the contrast is very yummy
the last set of gatorade bottle sketches were nice too

MiladThaha: thx, I am going to try to do one in color and hopefully with a lot more detail in it
j.d.simeon: Gasp you actually responded now all you need is to actually post your stuff here =)
I liked the way the space and lighting worked on the top right but the picture is a lot more dynamic in the bottom left, I think i'll try to combine both of them and see what happens

anyway here is an update of my scribbles, I really need to study up on anatomy and maybe proportions also >.<

k trying to make a character for an illustration (actually it's from an illustration but I am redoing it and so I am adding a lot more detail to him) he obviously needs a lot more work, and we'll see where this goes

allrighty, I finished my concept of the wizard, and it did change a lot but that's how it's suppose to be, and i like the concept better, when he used to be a wizard he pulled a lot of magic from nature and by doing so he was slowly killing the nature around him, so as to preserve the balance of things the spirit of nature gave the wizard soo much natural magic that the wizard himself became one with it, forever lingering between life and death until he releases all of the magic he gained from nature restoring and enriching life as he flows in the river of essence
(maybe i should have added a bit of adjustments to bring it up a bit more, but i think i'll do that later when I get the final picture done)
oh and the first one is just a warm up sketch

btw this concept is based on one of the speedpaint i did earlier
(if u want to see it but too lazy to look for it, u can also find it here http://coolhead1.deviantart.com/gallery/#/d2y730t and it's right in the middle)

Hey Drey 101, Thanx for stopping by my Sketchbook, I like what I see here man.
Your really doing good with the color theory. Are you using a nentendo D.S. for any of those studies? I think the study of the backyard is probably the most helpful thing of all of
the stuff your doing because this helps you establish knowledge of color/value/saturation.

Sean McClain: HEY THANKS MAN, no i am not using nintendo D.S., although that could be fun (if i had one >.<) and I like that study too, it definitely helped me understand how color works and it was a lot of fun too =)

alright, I am staring a new project and this is some training i am doing for it, I started out thinking that i would use these as concept sketches for my project but they turned out to go in a different direction then i intended to. So I am callin this a practice and will do real concept sketches later on >.> feedback, questions, comments are always greatly appreciated

Yeah dude definitely this is looking good man. Continue to do studies and keep up the grinding.

For the ships, EVery shape you've put into it is symmetrical. The ovals and your squares are all perfect, add in diagonals, make make one side of the oval more round or perhaps curve out. Check out theartcenter.blogspot.com I think that'll definitely help you with design and perhaps give you some ideas and help on characters.

To me what has helped me the most when studying is focusing your attention on something intensively for a WHOLE month. So perhaps, if you want to get better with proportions, focus on that. Of course you can do other things in your artwork, but whenever you're out with your friends or waiting in line you can start drawing figures focusing on proportion to exercise your memory.

Also I think something that will help you out even more is having some influences to guide you. Check out Mongsub Song's blog, Steve Jung, Jaime's Paick, etc. Those guys have plenty of backgrounds that also go in depth as to what is happening. Break down their compositions, see where your eyes go, how much percentage of dark/medium/light is being used, how repetition of shapes are used and most importantly, how they all have unity through difference(Such as the Golden Mean). The wheel has already been invented many times, so it's just a matter of rolling with those wheels for awhile until you feel like you got a good understanding of it and you can walk away from it before you become a carbon copy of them(Because in the end, great artists steal, like Picasso said)

Ahh I hope I'm not confusing you haha. But keep it up man. Definitely promising.

apacalyrical: thank you for visiting my sketchbook and thanks a lot for your feedback!!! The design was for houses, something like a resort not a ship >.< but that just tells me that i have to get my presentation skills up, the reason they're all squares and circles is because I was trying out selection tool, but I didn't even think of using diagonals O.o but I totally see it =) Again thanks soooo much for the feedback and thank you for the links i'll defiantly look into those artists their designs look really awesome (I am trying to ge a list of artists that I love so if i ever run out of inspiration I can just go there =D) Now here is an update (maybe i'll stick with drawing the human body for a while, I need to get decent at that x.x):

In this one I used the reference below and just drew on top of it but I drew in the faces instead of copying them straight down I think it actually helped me (and the three heads on the right is actually from my imagination to try out what i've learned and i think they turned out a lot better than my previous work =D)

Allright here is my first attempt at gesture drawing at 1 minute each, and 1 minute is not nearly enough time >.< at least they're pictures and they are not moving X.X, i don't like a lot of them but at least it's a start, I think i might do this at least once a day (or at least try to .....) Klaus Reinbach III (check out his skecthbook -->http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=194708) gave me a link for this website which switches models every x amounts of seconds and it's pretty tight (http://www.pixelovely.com/tools/gesture.html) also i did a plane study of the nose

Hehe don't worry about how your sketches look, someone here in CA wrote, sketches don't need to be beautyfull, they need to be functional. What I would suggest you to do would be to try getting the pose in as less strokes as possible. It will help you seeing the forms more clear and it will save a hella lot of time for importand stuff. =)

The link is actually from someone here in CA too, but it's buried very deep in this forum, cause it's not linked in any sticky thread, it's somewhere in a normal thread in the critique area I belive, or here in sketchbook.

    Have fun.
I can do so little in so much time!

You feel frustrated and don't know where to turn this frustration on? No problem here is your salvation!
Just critique me in my critique thread and let it all out, please *bow*!

Klaus Reinbach III: thx dude, but you should at least see what the sketch is >.< and for some of those i can't even tell the pose X.X but I guess that's why u sketch to get better and improve =)

Haven't posted anything in a while >.<, anyway here is an update, I wanted to do something based on a theme and play with the mood and atmosphere of the painting. In these 3 pictures 3 things stay constant the butterfly the boots and the mushroom.

FYI: I did the night scenery one a while back (a couple months back), oh and the bottom one is based on a game called world of goo, it's a puzzle game and it's really fun and funky

great speedpaints and good job with the studies,...it would probably help to spend more
time on a few studies too, like 6-12 hours doing a photo or from another artist.
