Just a work-in-progress upload for this week's Illustration of the Week challenge, the theme is Dark Fairy Tale. Sorry for the bad quality pic! I'll be using watercolors for this one.

cool sb! looks like your on the right path, just keep practicing!
Long time no see. Those vector works look awesome. Especially the environments layouts. Very nice feel to them
. The shampoo sham comic is nice. My only crit is on the 6th panel, at girst i thought she grew beard probably because of the angle her is is and her mouth wide open. So i related that to the story fr a sec XD .
The inks look good. Great to see you update again. Moar!

sin eater : ahahabeard growing shampoo FTW - transfers your scalp hair growth to your face! and yes, more work on the way
kevin_ : thank you kevin!

I just saw the other posts on this week's Illustration of the Week. Mine looks so bleh :/ This is the wip to the watercolors.
Aand the finished piece with clean ups in photoshop. Funny how you notice corrections after uploading the work :/
Oh well. Here in true childrens' book illustrative style, "Hansel & Dinner"
I know. Sadistic me.
Oh and some more vector work I'd forgotten to upload.

Love your cartoons, and the watercolor on that last one looks great! Might want to tighten up the perspective a little, the fridge looks like it's leaning onto the wall!
Sketchbook - freakmod wants to learn how to draw really well
nice Hansel n Gretel piece sherry
would be nice to see more of these illustrations![]()
Neat work on 'Hansel and Dinner' xD The perspective distortion works, but the distortion isn't 'uniform' if you get what I mean. Especially since its like a wide angle shot, the witch and the pot doesn't match the foreground elements. But still cool.
Sweet colors after it came outta photoshop! the warmth makes it elegant. But are witches supposed to be elegant? isn't this supposed to be evil, with a lotta smoke n scary lights? xD
Slick advertising as well!so you diving headlong into freelancing? Best of luck!
EDIT: Dang I missed your vector works, beautiful, just plain beautiful. Illustrator? Those townscapes are pretty as well, juicy color combos. And those character designs. and those lines. and those colors. well frickin damnit.

Don't bother looking at my sketchbook. I haven't updated that thing in years. :/
MiladThaha: Yea, I did mess up the perspective didn’t IAnd lol no, I hadn’t planned on making it elegant! XD And thank yous! Yes that was all Illustrator work
Razen_sketch: Thank youswill make more
freakmod: Thank you! And yep, will keep that in mind!

Hansel and dinner looks really awesome. Please do more of those! The only thing i would say is that it looks a bit washed out, i think if the colors were more vibrant in that, it would look much better but thats just me.
The last comic page is nice. I am guessing the things that is talking to her is food? I can't make it out properly. I love the first two panels. The last panel was kinda confusing but somehow i am liking it more and more as i figured what it is XD

sin eater: Why thank you!
Oh and yea.. The watercolors.. I have trouble with laying out heavy lines and colors coz there's no CTRL+Z :/ Need to work on that.. And yep, that's food she's talking to! XD Hope a page or two more would make things clearer

So I've been going for weekly outdoor sketching sessions! Along with another conceptart member Gthm/death and a bunch of BFA freshmen.. That's when I found out that I suck at painting from nature.
Orr like a friend put it, it looks like puke o__O
He's right, soo I'm going to be painting from nature a lot more.
Tried out a new blending technique.
Not perfect, but I'm starting to understand digital painting!

I wonder who that would be. x)
The spoon looks super sexy dude! A bit of advice though, I found out that during the blocking stage, its much more, erm, 'lively' (?) using hard edged brushes and while blending in, lower the opacity and marathon with the alt-key . Soft edged ones kinda feels washed out or dull, I see folks use it mostly to cover large areas lightly. Funny thing is, I've been doing exactly the opposite till now. Not anymoar.
moar.
Don't bother looking at my sketchbook. I haven't updated that thing in years. :/
Milad ahahwho indeed
Yea, I need a lot of practice using those brushes <_< so moar still life added to the list! Y U NO update sketchbook??
----
Nothing much today, I was drowning under chores & housework most of the day :| Hate when that happens & I don't get time to draw. I think my mom's doing a good job of preparing me to be a housewife <_<

I'm trying to gear up for the outdoor sketch meet up this Saturday. My gesture drawing has gotten rustyPractice practice.
P.S. It's real fun drawing gestures of a cat
![]()
Nice gestures! Source?
I wonder how the cat allowed you to draw O_o
Don't bother looking at my sketchbook. I haven't updated that thing in years. :/
Milad - the source! XD
hehe.. Gotta draw her as fast as possible. Plus, they tend to get into the same pose after awhile, so I continue a broken drawing then
Oh and Pixelovely's Gesture Drawing Tool

Random doodles
More cat gestures

Tried out a self portrait. First Digital one I guess. Doesn't look exaaactly like me :/ But it's a start. 1.5 hours or was it 2 hours?
![]()
Wow! Your sketchbook reminds me of mine! Lots of cats, a penchant for cute things, no shortage of figure stuff, and... if your self-portrait is any indication, you even rather look like me (curly hair included)! xD
As for actual critique, I'd suggest more slow studies... like, good ol' still lifes and things. Maybe work on values a bit more. And, of course, it's always good to brush up on perspective work. When in doubt, practice practice practice.
Best of luck!
Thank you syrella
hahaDo you have a self portrait up too? And you said it, practice practice and more practice!

Was browsing through a lot of inspiring artwork and stopped to draw for a bit. Just some imaginary photoshop doodles today..
I like how the last one turned out!

So I did a study of a photo off the net.. It looks much better when it's small :/ I'm stopping for now, I've got a fever to get rid of.
Oh well, here's a bigger version too..
Aand, the reference photo

What a cheerful and active imagination you have.
dUdE! That's fluckin' amazing! I have to start soon, but have to finish my current project first.
Don't bother looking at my sketchbook. I haven't updated that thing in years. :/
Thank you Milo and Big Orange
Just another study for today.. My aim was to get painting the skin right, but I was getting too much into the details (and its past 3am here) so, I stopped!
Here's a wip. For no apparent reason. I think I worked on her bosom more than her face :|
P.S. Is the gif image of the wip working in a loop?? It's just playing once for me and stops.. :/
And a larger image..
Edit: Just noticed I didn't fill in the space below the bustier after tilting the entire image. Didn't think of cropping it either.
Last edited by Sharon J; August 17th, 2012 at 06:53 AM.
Yeah the gif's looping.
But otherwise really great work, everything is pretty accurate, maybe you could try blending with a soft brush a little more, it would make your values less choppy, and hopefully improve the overall quality of you work. Either way you're doing good, keep it up.
Sketchbook | Website |
your portrait studies are coming out pretty well, she does not look all that irritated now
found a good video for you just now here
its about how to draw the face using shapes at first, it is really helpful,
and you need to do some value studies as well to avoid "choppy values" like what psychobuddy mentioned
So you are saying there are no Models in India, is it a cultural thing?
I am sure you know this page have fun, I will post some nudes these days
hope to get your advice on that.
Have funhttp://lovecastle.org/

*critique* advice* help full links, is appreciated*
You have some pretty neat stuff going here. Loving your more cartoony works, the anthropomorphic white tiger doodle, for example, looks great to me. Also loving the webpage design. The idea is extremely cool.
Also, the comic page with the talking food looks great. Good use of the blacks (and, conversely, whites). But what I really like about that page is that you paid attention to lettering. I know too many comic artists who suffer because they don't look enough into their lettering. Very nice placements, overall, especially in the places where you used the texts without balloons. Keep up the great work.
Vritra : Thank you so much for the detailed critique & encouragement
Iven : Ah.. No, I haven't heard of nude models anywhere here. :/ The models we had in my art college were clothed and we had just a few days of class every month. I'm not sure if we're allowed to arrange a group class like that on our own either. Yea, I remember stopping by this link, but lost it since, Thank you!
razen_sketch: ahuhlots to do :/
psychobuddy : thank you! and will try out the blending technique more, gotta get back to practicing..

Wow. It's been 5 whole months since I've posted anything here. And well, January seemed like a good time to start again. I got caught up in some personal stuff, some depression and work kept me busy as well. I haave been getting work regularly, so that's a good thing, but that's been cutting off a lot of time to practice on my own work.. Trying to get back to that now. I can't post any work drawings soon but here are some pages of the personal project I'm working on alongside work.
Those and a page of crappy linework to remind me to practice more.
And um.. Random doodles.
Edit : I'm loving the new upload system.. Saves a LOT of timeGreat job ConceptArt.org!

Looking pretty good! Glad to see you're still updating.![]()
What I wanted to suggest is to try studying children a bit, particularly their posture and proportions. I think it might help your character doodles, even if you're going for more of a "chibi" effect. When in doubt, splicing in more life studies never hurts.
Keep up the good work!
Neat update. I like the expression 'chart' for "your" character. Also the mushroom man in the bottom corner.
Your lines are improving a whole lot too![]()
Don't bother looking at my sketchbook. I haven't updated that thing in years. :/
Dig your new sketches especially the flying versions of you and the gesture drawings but i wish you start using basic shapes while drawing characters and other stuff because it does help allot & yea put up more of your comics !
keep up the good work though :>
