    Smile Spoonigan's Sketchbook

Hello! -waves- thanks for deciding to take a look at my Sketchbook!

This is my first time posting here so I'm a bit of a newbie, though I have spent the last few days browsing and being amazed by some of the sketchbooks that are already on here.

Here's a little about me to start off with: I'm 19 and currently studying Games Design at uni. My dream is to (hopefully) one day make it in the industry as a Character Designer.

Please be as brutally honest and give as much critique as you like - if it helps me improve then I'm all for it! Most of my work is made up of cartoons & character designs, though because of uni I've also started doing some realism work too. That's an area I'd love to get better in, so I might post more studies and that sort of thing than my actual characters. We'll see!

    Have a nice day~

This is a little guy I've been making for a current project. Based off those creepy singing Christmas Trees that shouldn't be allowed to exist -shudders-... Anyway, feedback as always is much appreciated - thanks for looking!

Been working on some more realism stuff - these are some studies I did for a project to try and get the hang of how snow sits on rocks. The bottom right is also one with water and is the one I struggled with most. ;>_> Going to keep trying so I can get the hang of it!

Finished the Owl! I did another livestream which was near enough 2 hours, so it took me about 5 in total. I'm fairly happy with how it came out, though there's definitely room for improvement.

I really want to try and get the hang of realism, and if I'm gonna do that I've got to go back to the simple things. So, here's an apple! I really struggled with the different yellows, so if anyone has any advice it'd be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: Added a bit more shine to the apple, thanks Etchpea!

Lots of really good studies here! Your apple is looking pretty dang tasty, I think maybe it could do with a little more shine to make it pop a little more?
    Keep up the awesome work!

Been working on some more fruit tonight, this one might actually have a background when it's finished! O_O ;>_> Gonna try and finish it off tomorrow, but here's what I've got so far!

PS. It's meant to be in a fruit bowl hence the weird shape, I just haven't gotten far enough to draw it on yet~

Finished the fruit bowl! Also apparently told a complete lie about the background thing, sorry about that. ;>_> Gonna try and do some environments next so that there'll actually be something other than a boring blank colour behind these things. Anyway, here it is:

Wow I haven't posted here for a little while o_O that should change, and it will! Here's something I've been working on for the last few days. It's a guy called Lee Donghae from a KPop group called Super Junior. It was kinda tricky but I think I'm happy with how it came out. Feedback welcome!

Took about 45 minutes to do these, they're a couple of shocked & disgruntled looking Koi fish. Will tidy them up some more and make the page look nicer. Thanks for looking!

Moar uni work, woo! I do have some other stuff to post also, but they need cleaning up a bit and due to the fact that my internet connection has been messing up, combined with lots to do - I haven't really had time. D: Will post them tomorrow or Tuesday, though. Anyway.. these are meant to be the little Aliens that'll help you out if you ever find yourself stuck on their planet. From left to right they are; Neptune, Mars and Saturn.

Thank you so much Flaskpost! Sorry for the late reply. ;>_> I'm definitely hoping to add more detail into it, give it some more personality so to speak. I'll try and get that done within the next few days.

Here's a Stag I've spent the last couple of hours on, not done yet but feedback is hugely appreciated!

Hey there. Great studies. You're a late bird like I am haha.

Well wanting to get better does that to you.

I love the fruits study and you have a good control of color/light. Only crit would be is intensify some of the shadows , play with the sliders with brightness and contrast. It'll help a lot.

Hey Rostas thanks a lot! That I am haha, I'm terrible! That it does. :'D

I'll definitely give that a go and post the results. Thanks so much for the tip. Cheers for stopping by!

Finished the Stag from yesterday, cropped it a bit prematurely so it could be used as a phone/iPod wallpaper easier. Feedback welcome!

Working on an environment now. I streamed this one, so that was a new experience as I don't usually stream from the start. Will probably continue the same when I get back from uni (if I do I'll post a link).

Since it's the first time really doing a proper environment study, I'm using a photo. Hoping to move onto more challenging techniques and use my own resources soon though. Comments very welcome as always!

The stag came out nicely and the fur is looking A-ok . The environment is also looking good. I friggin suck at enviros haha. Trying to get better though.

Textured brushes also help a lot when trying to do enviros so keep that in mind.

    Keep em coming!

Thank you so much Rostas! I really appreciate it. I'm sure you can do it! I'll be sure to give some textured brushes a go in future, it makes sense if they help. :'D

    Here's a 10 minute study:
