I was watching some Dark Souls video's and I thought it would be cool to design something. But then I got stressed out and ran for me stress ball. So I stopped, and this is what was left. And Leg studies.. More gestures coming up people. Probably plan on Charcoal/ Still- Lifes tomorrow ?

Sorry guys, I promised you gestures but I don't have any
Though, I was skyping with a friend(Fellow Artist) himself and we decided on doing a speed draw contest. Topic was knights so yah.... Totally winged the pose.. I just went for something and thought of it as I go.

    @ Danny_K Thanks Danny K

So, I'm trying to figure out how to make my figures ...pop. If that makes any sense.... Trying to put values on my lines because right now they all look the same. More work on Anatomy, and I am tempted to do Digital but I'm resisting...Also I bought a 5 sketchbook for on the road drawings.

What's up man? Wicked progress since the last time I looked at the sketchbook. The main tip I'd throw out there is one I'm trying to apply myself and it's pretty hit or miss. When I look through your stuff it seems like the stuff you spend a lot of time on turns out better than the rest - personally I find myself blowin through stuff pretty quick and have to constantly remind myself that I'm not in a race to get as much stuff down on paper/canvas as possible.

Somethin I'm struggling with too - good stuff though, dude. Keep it up!

dont think of anything as it sucks, think of your studies as something to improve, keep yourself positive and look forward, good energies and motivation is a necessary asset for any artist. sometimes when I feel down and unmotivated I change something like a walk with my daughter in the park or go for a morning run or just take drive to down town visit barnes & nobles watch some art books open up some magazines etc...

Sweet set up, I am quiet jealous of how tidy and spaced out it is haha. I think you need to do some proportion work from Loomis, spend a good deal of time learning the proportions and then do a character from head and make it in proportion. Remeber that proportions isn't just how "tall" a figure is but how all the body parts are related in size. From there I think you should start studying focused anatomy (bones, muscles) using both Loomis and bridgeman. And then APPLY. Rinse and repeat, make sure you take your time and you'll see huge improvements.

@ Nibras xD . Thanks for liking my set up. Though I plan on getting an Intous 4 and a Vaio soon. I'm constantly chucking them anatomy studies to so I'll add some proportions study to. But I shouldn't forget the observational stuff.

Thanks a lot for the comment! Your studies are looking good, keep it up! Watch where you put the shapes of values, your core shadow on that apple is too far to the right and it looks like you forgot about the reflected light.

Nice mate I like the range of studies you are doing, remember when you are painting from reference to not only trying and get the correct colour and location but too think about "why" it is that colour there.. In my case when I am painting say an apple I am not trying to make an awesome apple I am trying to learn from it to make my next work stronger.

Keep up the effort and look forward too seeing more.
    Cheers

That apple study on the last page -- you should have added a core shadow as there is not one there. See the right edge of that apple? It has reflected light bouncing back up into it, making it more illuminated in that area. To the left of that, you can see that it briefly becomes darker and then rolls back the form to the light after the terminator.

Sorta like that. You should study really, really basic matte objects to understand that. And by matte, I mean something that doesn't have a lot of reflections. Most things found in life are a mix of matte and specular (reflective).

You're making a lot of progress, but your characters seem very stiff.
You draw too many straight lines, try to emphasize the curves of movement and think big.

Thanks a lot for the comments!
Sorry if this sounds harsh, but I think you should find some pictures of skeletons next time you want to draw skeletons. You just don't know them well enough to make them up from your head yet. That goes for everything really, you've got a lot of studying to do before you can get something as complex as a skeleton to look totally right from imagination. If you had a ref you would be able to tell what the skull should look like and how big the rib cage should be and what way the femurs should be pointing, but you didn't have anything to help you see those problems and solve them. You can't get something right unless you know what it looks like.
I'm not saying stop drawing imaginative stuff, your imagination rocks. Just combine that stuff with observation of what things really look like.
