Don't bother looking at my sketchbook. I haven't updated that thing in years. :/
The last coloured figure is realy good. Was it from reference?
For the portraits [heads] try Loomis book "Drawing the heads and hands". I'm learning from it myself, very useful book.
Hey bro
Looking good, mmm, try holding your pencil a different way, rather than how you write, but gripping it overhand and held between your index and finger, keep the pencil on the page without lifting it, control the pressure too, and draw with your shoulder, keep your wrist and fingers still as you draw to get sweet curves. =)
good stuff man...just keep drawing daily...(if i could only follow my own advice)..looking forward to seeing more!
Woohoo! Comments! Yay!
MiladThaha - Thanks! Yeah, gotta keep drawing!
vanaga - Hey, no, that was from imagination, I really liked how the pose ended up..., too bad about the coloring and the lineartI gotta do more loomis studies, I do try to use his technique when constructing heads, but I gotta keep practicing...
Kungfoowiz -Hey, I have to admit, I don't really understand how you want me to grab the pencil, but I do try to draw with my arm instead of using my wrist, specially for the rough sketches...
Boywonda1 - Hey, thanks for stopping by! Yeah, gotta keep drawing, like Milad said, consistency is the key!
Ok, now on to the update...., a small one actually, but one that I really like. I've been practicing a bit more with the tablet and I managed to get this done. Just a sketch from imagination, that I then tried to color...
It's a bit dirty, but I couldn't find a way to clean it up afterwards... I guess I'll figure it out eventually
Took me about 2 hours, but I learned a lot about using the tablet and photoshop, so I guess it was worth it
Anyways, enjoy!

Another digital piece.. from imagination, tried to construct the head using all the knowledge I have about structure and muscles... I like the result, but I know there is still a lot of room for improvement...
Anyways, enjoy!

Some more tablet practice.. this time, heads...tried to apply some loomis into them...
As usual... C&C is always appreciated![]()

The drunk on throne is good, you're getting somewhere with it, and you're getting some good studies in. Another thing you could try is doing a sketch from imagination, then finding some reference images that match/ are close to that pose then do the same sketch again using the references you found.
Or just look at ref image, then put it away and draw it from memory. Then bring the ref back out and either correct the memory drawing or do another one next to it.
Keep at it
Bring out your crits, asspats, and assorted comments
I got me a sketchbook...
Slow, yet hopefully steady, improvement. This way
I like that you're doing those simplified studies in your last post. I'd simplify it even more and do simple skull studies in many poses, because I still see you drawing the cranium much too small, etc. Start with drawing simple forms like the simple shape of the skull, then later work on planes of the face. The eyes and the rest of the face will look much more natural if you have the basic skull shape down.
Sketchbook - freakmod wants to learn how to draw really well
Thanks both for your nice replys and comments, I'll work on them for next time...
Now a quick update, before running off to cook...Superman, off to save the day..., on grayscale and with some colors...
Enjoy!

Hey bro!
Looking good, your drawings are pretty cute. =) Mmm, if I were to recommend something, it would be to maybe start with the face as a point to begin some serious studies.
Study the heck out of it until you know them reasonably well, and that kind of discipline should then help you as you learn the other parts of the body.
hey man...your digital stuff are good....motivational...the guy on the throne is my best one...keep it up...
Hey bud, study more anatomy. Buy a sketchbook or get some blank paper and just go out and draw people. Train your eyes to see proportions better. You're improving, but you need to study anatomy more.
Good luck!
Kungfoowiz - Hey thanks for that advice! I'll try to focus my studies for a while... (like today), it could be beneficial.
Boywonda1 - Thanks man!
schumak - Yeah! You don't have to tell me that... I know I have to study a lot more anatomy, the problem is that I also have to study EVERYTHING elseAnd time is not my friend
I'll try to get a few more anatomy studies done for the next update...
Aaaaanyways..., here is a bit of head structure and anatomy practice..., mostly from Loomis, but some are from imagination....
Enjoy

Great studies! You are on the right track. Now maybe try to draw some faces from photos or life with newly acquired knowledges (the best would be to sit in front of the mirror and try a self portrait). And don't stop your studies. One great artist said that best ratio is 2:1 for studies and imagination stuff.
![]()
Thank vanaga, I know what you mean... that was going to be the next drawing, but I ran out of time yesterday..., so I had to post what I had..
And about the 2:1 ration? It makes sense..., and I have been trying to do just that..., as many studies as I could and then I decided to try my hand at some unreferenced stuff...
Truth be told, I'm not really happy with any of my things from imagination.., but oh well, I guess it's natural and I'll get better on time (maybe 10 or 20 years.. what do you think?)...
I'll post some more, once I have time again
Thanks again!

Keep up the good works bro, that's the kind of stuff you need to be doing. =)
Hehe that is the awesome thing about art, the learning never ends
You are on the right path. As my teacher once told me, "you'll have to burn through thousands of drawings before you start turning up okay drawings".... man was he ever right.
Kungfoowiz Thanks man!
schumak Hehe, yeah, I guess you're right.. still, I'd love to have some more free time in my hands to learn a bit faster..
Anyways, here is the drawing that was missing from the las series..., a photo referenced portrait...
10 points if you can tell me who is it supposed to be
Enjoy!

OMG, this last portrait is amazing!
He is cute. Could be Brad Pitt.
Thanks vanaga! He IS Brad Pitt, thank god someone can see the resemblance! I was getting a bit nervous after my wife said that the drawing didn't look much like him
His chin is way too big, too bad I noticed after posting it here....
Anyways expect more of this, they're really fun to do!

Hey, it's prettry strong, keep working on the placement of the features, improving quickly though from your last pieces..
Thanks Kungfoowiz, I'll keep trying..
Here is a new one.. not really happy with this one..., I guess doing this kind of things at 2am doesn't work out as well as I thought
I'll post some more as soon as I have the time, and then, I'll go back to studies...
Later!
My sketchbook - help me get better!
Yip, looking good, start earlier though.. (=
One more, started earlier this time![]()
Too bad the picture from my camera looks like crap, but it's the best one so far..., took longer though..., I realized I had been rushing through the sketching stage...
The pose is weird, but I didn't pay much attention to it, my goal was to get the face right, which I didn't do of course, but I did get close enough for me to call it done
I'm starting to like doing this portraits, I'll try to do one more, and then I'll go back to studies.. I need moar time damn it!
Enjoy![]()
My sketchbook - help me get better!
I can definitely see that you are improving, for example, the nose is getting better and better![]()
Hehehe, thanks Vanaga.. I do like how the nose is getting better, but hopefully, that's not the only thing that's improving.. is it?![]()
My sketchbook - help me get better!
I like your faces they are getting better with every post.
I forgot to leave these links last time they are the loomis books.
Successful Drawing
Creative Illustration Form Principle and Tone
Just study them as a daily thing until, their in your brain like yin yang.
I wish someone would have given me these right off the bat.
Also you should look into getting the Vilppu Drawing manual I bought on amazon (used) for $20 and reading through I bet it will really help.

Hey Purple Nug, thanks for your advice.. I do try to follow Loomis rules, whenever I draw a face... sometimes I succeed and sometimes I fail..
Gotta keep practicing...
Anyways, here is another "famous" face..., hopefully, you'll know who this one is..
I'll try to get some studies done, but it's hard, I'm getting addicted to this portraits things
Hope you like this one.., took me almost 2 hours and of course, lots of things wrong with it, but I did try my hardest to render her hair, something else I gotta practice I guess
I'll leave to it then...
As usual, C&C is always appreciated
Bye!

Wow! Great job on that last face. Fuck. You are already better than me. And sorry I didn't know you have already been reading loomis.
