Here's my mastercopy/sketches, on average of 3 hours is used on each...I don't know if I should be sketching tons of quick studies or making one near-perfect copy over a very long period of time, so I chose the middle-ground of the two, this is mostly what I'm doing for this summer
There's mostly Sargent portrait/tonal studies and Frazetta figure/lineart studies
Here's the last batch sorry for muti-post, some life drawings of models and zoo animals
On average 5 minutes each for the ones scattered in throughout a single page and on average of 20 minutes for the ones with 1-2 models on the page
I know I chickened out of sketching some of the models body AND head...on top of my extreme lack of technical skill (muscle memory?) I'm having major issues drawing a model fast enough
Hello and welcome! You got some great studies so far and I see you have a basic understanding of anatomy. Keep practicing anatomy buy using live models, books (Loomis, Bridgeman, etc.) anything that will help you out. What might help you loosen up a bit is doing some gesture drawings. Take about 30 secs to a min to do each pose, etc. This will not only help you loosen up, it will give your poses more movement and fluidity. If you want to approach this technique, try and blend your pencils more to give it a smoother look. That's all I really have for now. Keep going!![]()
Thanks Aresa, I see what you mean, I heard people blend different hardness-es of pencils together in one artwork but I never tried it before X) I'll do that (and visit posemaniacs more >.> )
Oh yea, CAers I forgot to mention, that my mastercopy-sketches are done with color references and without the aid of the computer, I'm noticing the obvious tonal and proportional issues only during scanning ;_;
blah blah blah I type a lot
if tl:dr here is some digital paintings done from photo references average time 5-7 hours? I can't remember, oh and I'll also post this 30-sec gesture warm-up here <![]()
Some of the okay life drawings from a live model yesterday
Roughly in order of the time done and the amount of time spent on each (from 2 minutes to 20 mintues)
hey.. welcome aboard. studies are looking good... haha WPI, is that worcester polytechnic? if so... that's funny... cause i'm originally from worcester
Thanks and yups :3 Worcester Polytechnic Institute - there's a great game design course there
The first is another Frazetta/line study, I worked on it for 16 hours sigh...
and the other is a non-sense (several minute?) doodle
good work so far, the master studies are a great way to go. someone mentioned you should check out loomis and bridgman (i would add vipplu), they will show you how to build the figure from the ground up to help with imagining poses. keep it up!
good studies overall so far! I'd keep doing them. the more you draw and the more you study and set challenges for yourself the more you'll improvedefinitely break into what lies underneath the skin like muscular and skeletal structures, so you can further understand the human body as a whole~ Keep it up, oh and your master studies are great!
Good stuff man. Your definitely on the right track. Keep up the good work.
Hhhhhuuuuuggggggghhhh.......
