    Gerry's art

I have no clue how to describe my body of work. I have been an illustrator, colorist, painter, sculptor. I just do whatever I can get paid to do. I have been doing art professionally since 1987.

Today I work for IDW and EA Games, doing comic art and logo design for comic titles. Recently I have worked on The A-Team and Army of Two.

This first comic page I added was published in 1995. Its from a serialized comic appearing in The Octopus Magazine, out of Champaign, Il.
These panels were inks mixed with water color pens on cold press illustration board.

I did all art. It was the second paid comic gig I ever had. I was paid a whopping big $25/page to create the one comic page a week. The entire story was spread out of two years.

    Running Time

In 1996, film and TV director Josh Becker (Hercules, Xena, Jack of All Trades) commissioned me to create several production pieces for his forthcoming film, starring Bruce Campbell, called RUNNING TIME.

These were inked pieces that I would scan into the computer, and then used Photoshop to airbrush the shading. They were the first pieces I used photoshop on.

Original art I created for Cult Movie Magazine.
First I sketched it on rough water color paper.
Then, I used an overhead projector to project the pencils onto illustration board and traced my sketch onto the board, and then painted it with acrylic paint.

Between 1993 and 1995, I was commissioned by FXM, Inc., to create several Star Trek paintings, to be printed as limited edition art prints. Each was a limited edition, just 10,000 total. All sold out within two months of its release. You can occasionally find them on ebay.

These were created on cold press illustration board, and painted in acrylic.

    1. "Battle at Wolf 359."
    2. Close up of "Wolf 359" starship at top of painting.
    3. "Battle at Narendera III"
    4. Simply known as "Home".

Poster art created for BladeZone.com, the Blade Runner Fan Club, back in 1997.
Art was created by scanning a pencil sketch of Deckard, created on illustration board, into the computer, and painted in Photoshop.

This is the official bust I sculpted for the Brion James estate. Brion James is the actor who played Leon in Blade Runner. When he passed away, his brother Chris commissioned me to sculpt a bust of his brother for the memorial golf tournament in his name. The bust was 1/4 scale. I also provided the inked sketch for the brass etching on the plaque.

Roy Batty (Rutger Hauer) from Blade Runner. Sculpted in Super Sculpy at 1/4 scale.
The color pics are as I was working.
The black and white pic is the final piece.

Thank you. I enjoy both Trek and Blade Runner, and loved being commissioned to do art from two of my fav subjects.

This was a quick painting I did for a test cover of the forthcoming graphic novel I am working on called EndTime, a dark sci-fi thriller.

A friend of mine joked that the painting looked like gay porn DVD case cover art. Heh

Is it me, or do some people seem to be using art created by other people as their sketchbook avatars? That seems rather dishonest. I always look forward to hearing from others, especially other artists, about my work, but I don't want to falsely lure them into looking at my work by posting someone else's art. When I see some cool art at the sketchbook link, I expect to see something similar in the thread. When I don't, I feel my time and interest misused.

This annoys me too, I tend to not comment on their sketchbooks unless theyre trying pretty hard.
Great work going on here, really like those star trek paintings! More!More!

    I agree.

Thanks for the compliment. Here are some more Trek paintings. Sadly, the last of the Trek art, really.

Here are four pages of the art I am creating for the graphic novel Bayeux.

I am penciler and colorist on this project. These pages are the pencils and colors...Amin Amat is inker, his inks are not being shown on this page because he is not done with them yet. These pages show you only my pencils and the color work.

    Enjoy
