I do very little anthro/esque work, but if I'll do, I'll be sure to post it. Thanks guys!

My Tolkien exhibition in Loughborough this August was a blast! I made lots of contacts and got an armful of new commissions and invitations to Cons, and there are publications in the offing - thanks for all your support here as well! That means so much to me.

Next in line for Tolkien commissions: A scene from the Silmarillion. Maedhros searching for the sons of Dior.

Pencil (tinted in PS) with watercolour wash.

Another Tolkien commission - Beren and Lúthien. They were commissioned to frame a third piece in their midst, which is why they're so "tidy" colour and design wise.

Watercolour (liquid) on Canson Montval, 50x30 cm.

Woops! And I just saw I never posted this one? Weird.

My...These are incredible. Just took a look at your blog also. You have to be the coolest teacher ever. You paint awesome images and...play video games...Really great work. I saved a bunch for an inspiration fix when I cant get online. Hope you don't mind...

These are beautiful! Your use of value is amazing, and you really manage to tell a story with each picture.

    Thanks so much everyone!

Damien: Teachers are never cool. By default. Although the Year 7 I teach right now likes looking on when I sketch, most other students are determined to find everything boring, embarrassing and stupid that a teacher does!

    Thank you, hc!

Got a new one done yesterday... When everybody's running around celebrating Carnival, getting drunk and listening to disgusting music, then my favourite place is my workbench.

    Watercolours and gouache, 65x32 cm.

I've been meaning to comment in here for a while.

I remember posting in one of your wip's in the CC a while back and I really enjoyed watching the image progress. I also loved looking through this thread. Your skill with watercolours is amazing and I love the subjects. Also really informative seeing your process from sketch to finished painting on your blog.

Great work and thanks for sharing.

Your work is absolutely beautiful, the first one really reminds me of The Morrigan. What watercolour brand do you use may I ask? Keep them coming they are fantastic

    Thanks so much, guys!

OldOmen: The Morrighan was an inspiration for the character, yes - kudos for catching that!
The first images in the thread were all done with Schmincke watercolours; about halfway through this thread (when it becomes really colourful all of a sudden) I was using Dr Ph. Martin's Hydrus liquid watercolours. I've just written up a blog post on watercolour types this week, maybe you'll find it helpful!

I've got a new tube of Cobalt turquoise I was itching to do more with.

Schmincke watercolours on Canson Montval paper, 29x40 cm. Again a Tolkien illustration. If you're interested, check out the process here. Thanks for looking!
