BludHund: As always, it's good hearing from you. Yeah, the clothed figure studies was done in one fairly long session. I feel you on the imaginative portraits, they're on their way! Doing a day to day rotation is a good idea. I have yet to execute that idea as it was intended to be done but a good idea nonetheless. At the end of the day it's all about finding a flow/rhythm that works for you.

psage: As they say here in the US, thanks buddy!

It's felt like AGES since I last posted. Here's some sketchbook material. Most of it is pretty recent but some of it is a few months old.

Thanks guys! Since a new semester is in full swing I won't have time to respond to every person individually but I do appreciate any and all feedback.

Here's something we had to do for one of our classes. We were to pick one of our favourite artists and try and mimic their style while doing a Mass Effect character of our choosing. I chose Kaidan.

I will be working on the final version this weekend.

Great progress man, keep working hard! The pose for the illustration feels very static still. Think about how to make the limbs more animated. Think rhythm lines that run throughout the body. You want it to feel dynamic before adding the dutch tilt. Then you can just tilt it a bit to really exaggerate it.

Hey, your keep it coming, nice see that, hm, lately I had been thinking on how to make money with art, it´s seems that it´s not easy until you reach a certain level. I wonder if with your level you cam make some decent money. You seem professional to me but I´really don´t know anythink about this kind of matters so I prefer to ask insted of guess.

Cool work! The last one (the guy with the flame thrower) ... it feels off because the horizon line (though it's tilted) indicates the ground is about 300 feet below his feet... just by the way the shapes are falling away in perspective.

Just as an thought experiment, pull the guy off the background (in your mind) and it feels like a flight simulator where your spaceship is flying through a canyon at about 300 feet above the ground.

Loomis is actually really good at setting up these kinds of variations with perspective in Successful Drawing... practically the whole book is dedicated to it... and it goes over stuff like tilted horizons.

Hey Pieter, thanks for your advice/sharing on my thread. I have to say I do experience many of
    the same things.

Not so much with regards to other people...my problem is chiefly one of pervasive negativity.

I am far more motivated to action by anxiety than by passion, which is one thing I'd like to
change about myself (if that's even possible). The other thing is really deep-set self-doubt,
feelings of inadequacy. I think I go through like 80% of every day feeling like I'm doing some-
thing wrong. Some of that is due to being a very sheltered late-bloomer, I always very much
feel like I'm faking either competence or normalcy all the time. I know, not uncommon traits either...

I think the bottom line is too much LIVING INSIDE YOUR OWN HEAD. The key seems to be to
just shake yourself out of the thought loop and focus on goals, just go for them and damn the
torpedoes. Luckily I am also an incurable romantic with a hunger for adventure.

Of course things like, well, physical exercise, sharing with good friends, sunlight and fresh air.

I also find it helpful to remind yourself that many people have overcome problems just like yours
but with a few additional impediments like crushing poverty or a serious physical or mental disorder...

    ---

Anyway on a less spiritual note

Two biggest things I think you need to work on right now:

    1. Variety of lines and shapes. Particularly in your figure construction...the forms are all there, in the
right place, the right proportion but there is no sense of rhythm in the shape/line character. They are
almost all positive shapes, a series of ovoids. This really sucks the energy out of things.

    2. Lack of a mental library of textures, line and shape characters. Especially in your moonscape thumbs,
which feel really rushed and uncomfortable.

I would do some in-depth studies to build this up. Take something in nature, or a piece of industrial design
like a car or a blender, or a girl's outfit. Break it down by textures and line characters. How many different
patterns are present? How would you characterize them? Practice duplicating each of these patterns over a
couple of days, build a palette that you can deploy as needed.

    ---

Do more environments and landscapes. Perspective needs some work. P Sage had some good points 'Succ-
essful Drawing' is excellent, so is Figure Drawing For All Its Worth, which has a huge amount of information
    about perspective and layout.

Don't forget about cast shadows on the ground under figures.

Don't forget about the *eyes* the viewer will latch onto these immediately, no matter how small they are.
Where is that last flamethrower guy looking? He seems to be thinking about what to have for lunch...

Color, value, and composition all look good. Probably all those master studies paying off

Like I said anatomy looks good, poses are solid.

Just work on variety of lines and shapes (and size of those). The principles of balancing and placing the
number and pervasiveness of colors or values in a composition can apply just as well to the number of types of
    shape or line or texture.

Hope to see more soon and that TAD is rocking your world in all the right ways

“When forced to work within a strict framework,
the imagination is taxed to its utmost – and will
produce its richest ideas. Given total freedom,
the work is likely to sprawl.”

Hey all, thank you so much for positive comments and trenchant/thoughtful feedback (I'm looking at you Bludhund)!

Like I've mentioned before, I'm super busy with school right now so I just dont have the time to respond to everyone like I want to. I have SO much work to share that it almost discourages me from posting. I know, sounds weird to say that, but it feels like that sometimes.

Anyways, I worked on some album art over the summer for my brother's band ON PHOTON. Do check them out. The whole album is available for download (free) and it's a damn good EP.

Beautiful!!! Love these thumbnails, thats a great training man, really everything is in the thumbs, so they are really important.love the edge play you did on jango fett. The contrast of soft and hard is pleasing.I was going to crit on the character illustration, but the other mates already mentioned the important things. Keep doing thumbnails and keep up the great work !!!

Thank you Yemi, yes they were!

I've taken it upon myself to update more frequently than I have in the past.

Here is a small taste of what I've been up to these past 4 months.

Here is some more work from my Entertainment Design II class w/ Ron Lemen. They're of gantry cranes we were developing to go along with the Seaports we were designing. They have problems I was properly scolded for making them. Thanks Ron

    Some more work.

These were exercises to deepen our understanding of mechanical form and design, with a focus on joint movement. It all ties in with designs that I will post later.
