lionheartGFX: thanks for the kind words, i wasn't really focused on folds or clothing. shadows, yes i shall start including more of that. funnily, the stuff i've been doing the past few days has been the opposite of small, larger sketches on A2 paper

    ---

busy, scattered, not much done. tried out some larger page practice, A2

M.Calza: thanks, thats good to hear. i consider myself a total beginner to the figure, and am very unsure of my figure drawing abilities, your comment is somewhat encouraging and welcome, thank you
jhonshadow: thanks! ill do some more fruit soon

speaking of small sketches (this is in a little A6 sketchbook, which is half the size of a normal "small" sketchbook, fits neatly in pockets):

iven: niiiiiice song! that fits really well. later ill post the song my friend was talking about. i just spent the past hour looking for a song that i can't remember the name of, and havn't found it, so instead i'll go with this:

    funeral playlist:

    funeral starts with Thordendal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYkSb7wtj0E
then goes on to Animals as Leaders: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xQ3zSBAr5CY
moves to Glosoli by Sigur Ros: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bz8iEJeh26E
and ends with The Protecting Veil: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=022lNxhAEec

    metal, metal, ambient, choral

    udonhead: good idea!

Yemi: yeh, i'm actually sort of blown away by how much the life drawing is helping. to anyone who isn't doing it yet... do it, the fact that the models move forces you to consider what is most important to represent a form, that you simply can't get in the same way when copying a photo. plus the infinite variety of life.
    thanks for your comment yemi

its so jarring and uncomfortable to see the difference in quality between the figure stuff and my prev still life studies. but it corresponds well to the areas i've been focusing on, i couldn't expect anything else

I starting reading Harold Speeds "Oil Painting Techniques and Materials". My first impression is that this is a goldmine of knowledge about how to approach learning how to paint and think about painting, not just a manual about the mechanics of oil paint. Stuff about form, light, colour, and how to think about it all. Wish I started reading this earlier.
