GEB: Thanks very much, sir! I intend to post as often as I get the opportunity! I'm collecting photos of faces from the "What Do You Look Like" thread and Google images and things. For my job I have a free account with one of Getty's stock image libraries, so I try and collect as many of the good photos as I can.

in2eternity: Thank you! The progress is what I like about your SB too...you can easily see that you improve with each sketch and painting. I'm glad you like the horses...those ended up being some of my favourites too! Could you explain what you mean about the construction of a subject?

Hey, everyone. I've been slammed with work stuff lately, and haven't had as much time as I'd have liked for MY art. But I've been checking out different comic art as inspiration and have been gathering references for a comic that my cousin and I are writing. So I borrowed a Wacom Intuos 3 from work and have been messing about with it. I finally got ahead of the game with work, so now I have a couple of days to experiment.

This is my first ever digital painting. It's supposed to be a futuristic blaster pistol based on an old Austrian pistol from World War 1. Any crits would be greatly appreciated, as I still don't really know what the hell I'm doing.

Hi Cozmo! The guns look really good imo, and I am super impressed with the motorcycle that you drew from memory, I never would have guessed if you hadn't said anything. You are doing great with organic stuff (horses, people) but I do think they need more training than the mechanical stuff. With my limited knowledge I can see one thing that I can critique, the eyes! Pretty much all of the human eyes you have here are way oversized. You can make eyes pop and still have them fit naturally inside a face. I've seen people mention a Loomis book, get into that I'm sure it will show you some important things. I think knowing how to make eyes dazzle the viewer is one very fun part of art, go learn how!

Thanks, Mary! Yeah, I know my eyes are...odd. I appropriated a copy of "Drawing the Head and Hands," and "Drawing For Life." I just need to take the time and get into it. I'll let you know when I've got some more studies up for your feedback. I appreciate your crits!

Your portraits are very nice, if you didn't already know, you should probably focus on construction a bit sometime down the road, but may I also suggest working with different mediums and color? It may open your eyes to your own capacities!!

Thanks a lot, Pamzie! When you say construction, are you talking about proportions and how I'm putting the subjects together, or more composition and the layout of the piece?

Also, I've borrowed this tablet from work, so my goal is to experiment as much as I can so that I can get better at colouring and painting. But I'd love to use more coloured markers or pencils or chalks or something...watercolours, maybe... Thanks for the suggestions!

I think I meant more like, structure. I don't know why I said construction. Your compositions are really simple, you might want to add more of a background to your stuff, and put dark and light spots in places that will make your eye stay within the piece as much as possible. And for structure, there's no sure fire way to learn it, other than to train your eye to see it.

Here's some new stuff. It's not much, but I've been so busy with work, and I wanted to at least post something. I recently won a gift certificate through work, so I used it to buy a Wacom Bamboo. I LOVE IT!!! The drawings below were done using that.

Just some hand studies, plus I designed a tattoo for myself. I'm Scottish, so it's my clan's crest and a thistle, and the leaves would wrap around my upper arm.

your weapon concepts are good, practise silhouette drawing, tighter lines, specially for man-made objects. you dont have to go all 'product designy' but it helps to take some notes from there. when u lay down value, hatching is cool, but gets messy if your strokes arent even,constant . think about laying thick strokes of value to suggest form.

ur tat design is hardcore.

Thanks, SSquir33 and dimi! I appreciate the suggestions! I'm actually saving up for a couple of those books that gives sketching ideas for product designers, and those will help a lot, both in terms of technique and inspiration.

Been a while since I've posted! Man...it's sad to see that I've let it go, but I had a TON of stuff going on, and a lot of it was quite shit, really.

BUT...I've been drawing a lot, especially lately. I came across an old episode of Sharpe's Rifles, starring Sean Bean (it's really a great series...definitely worth checking out, especially if you're into historical and/or military fiction), and was struck by the beauty and craftsmanship of the old uniforms. Military uniforms these days are so utilitarian, and while that's great for practicality and field use, and it makes perfect sense, there's still a sense of style that has been lost.

I'm also a lover of scale modeling. While I lack the patience to build and paint these models for myself, I have great appreciation for the work of those who can. So I figure the way I can benefit doubly from their work is drawing the figures, and that's what I've been doing lately.

My favourite is the Scottish Black Watch soldier with the big bearskin hat, done in ballpoint pen.

Hey thanx for stopping by my sketchbook! You got some solid skills with the pen I see, love the last update strong character and nice eye for details! One question, I would like to see the feet of your characters, dont know if its on purpose or you couldnt fit them in the screen with your camera!?

Ha ha...no, just poor composition planning on my part. Perhaps kind of a cop-out on my part...subconsciously, of course...since I find feet to be some of the harder things to draw.
