Looks like a killer round. Sheeeeeeeeet!
Arthur Two Sheds, Garth Cochrane - nice wip's, yo!
Many nice wip's so far![]()
Anyway... meh!
E:
Update: I'm not really sure which version I prefer... either her arms being dragged up or her arms being dragged through a portal (though, atm I yet have to add arms/something to drag them away)
And I may have to indicate that she's some kinda student/apprentice... hum

Alright, nervous as anything as I literally have not been actively drawing in almost two years, but I'm throwing my hat in!
So many awesome wips so far!
Jasper_ - I guess if what's hung you up is the costume you might want to think first about what it tells the viewer about the character. I see a lot of variation over where to put revealing holes or girly fringe. Do any of those elements you're working with communicate what you want to say about your take on Rosie? Your depiction shows she's a necromancer, certainly, but what about the detail where she's described as top of her class? Where do you show that she's a student in college? I'd say answer these questions with your costume before getting too carried away. It is looking good so far. Finish strong!

Here's my start from last night. Great stuff from everyone! Thanks
a-ha! found a solution. now to colour/render.
weenie - looking good so far. her right upper arm needs to be abit thicker though,to better show the bend.
arghhh - ohhh lovely. what medium?

Always think about:
lighting! design! perspective! proportion!
And (self)motivation is still everything.
just started work on the portrait, trying to figure out the right body posture....she is a very curious student and digging up the prohibited areas........for now just the portrait WIP...crit plz
Jasper - Great brushwork! Lots of action in there.
blueman - awesome idea with the alchemy marks! wish I'd thought of it. :p
Keep it up guys! I'd write more, but I've got to get painting. Here's a sketch:

Okay bro this is the third time you've done it, so I have to recommend that you need to start drawing noses on your designs, or at least somehow indicating that a nose exists. If you were doing chibi super deformed japanese kawaii culture type stuff maybe you could pull that off, but with the less stylized designs you're doing it's honestly kind of unsettling.
Are you using references? Because the anatomy is kinda wonky dude, especially the feet and that hand.
Flickr and charecterdesigns.org are good places to start looking, but here's something kind of similar
maria - I hope you don't mind, but I did a paintover to illustrate my thoughts. Great start!
Update with a little color exploration. I started off way more subdued, but I somehow went technicolor all over it. Time to reign myself in and bring it back down a notch >_> It's a little too "rainbow" for a girl summoning zombies.
Interesting topic, but I'm never going to have time to finish this...
Sentinel - I don't know if it is really THAT out of place. Of course I play games made by Blizzard who thinks that the colors of magic are saturated hues of blues, greens, and purples. Also, I think the slightly brighter colors lend themselves to give a youthful impression befitting of a child prodigy necromancer at college. Doesn't have to be ALL doom and gloom, right? Maybe undeath can be more polychromatic than Hollywood likes to think
Staticpen - Um, is she pulling the tablecloth off a table or playing toreador with a crow?

third update, trying different things. Color in the background is just a throw-in for now. Hair might go white or green, and skull will probably change, but I'm happy so far with the progress. of course you guys will let me know if it's just all wrong![]()
Awesome topic. Its been tooooooooooo long since i did a chow
love the entries so far good work![]()
Rusty: i like what i see so far!
PxelSlayer: that looks really nice so far
Garth Cochrane: i really like that illustration alot!
Jasper_ : i really enjoy your design, and the ghoul/dead thing too. her outfit works for me, think i like the middle one most ^^
dawnusllaw: thank you! altho it seems i been strolling away from the first sketches a bit x)
----------------
heres another sketch, im a bit stuck on how to really show this necromancing thing :/
dunno if i can finish as my week is booked to the fullest, but i sure as hell gonna try x)
any thoughts is welcome![]()
yet another crapy update keep tweaking things and hopefully may get done soon. not quite sure about her holding the book any crits/comments would be awesome

I think you might be moving too fast with your piece Undeadartist. Before adding the FX-like glow, define your ground surface a bit more. Especially where you are making the scribble marks. It gives your work a very rushed feel. I don't think this is what you're intending. Her holding the book doesn't bother me. Keep it up!![]()
Undeadartist - One of the things you might want to do while you're in tweaking mode is consider how a light source like a full-body surrounding star on the floor beneath her will cast light and thus shadows. Where are your light sources? How bright are they? How bright is the ambient light? I know you want to draw attention to her eyes, for example, but the underlighting below her eyebrows looks too bright for the shadows around them. There are a lot of lighting tutorials out there to reference so take a look and experiment with balancing your light and shadows (layers are your friends!)

hey guys thanks for the help!
Ostrander-yeah i tend to get ahead of myself sometimes and just never really clean it up or anything, i still have ALOT to learn and ill keep that in mind and keep at this one, thanks for taking the time to crit!
Commander Obvious- that seems to be a problem for me that i can never really get the hang of is just adding the right form of light illhave to check into a bunch of tutorials and focus alot of my studies into this for now thanks again for the help!
Really nice stuff, everybody. Definitely some solid work going on around here.
Making more progress on mine. Still got a ways to go, but it's getting there.

awesome work so far everyone :oo
sketchy sketchy
sentinel. - Looks pretty legit to me, dude. The comment about blizzard colors is a good point - undead/necromancy themes don't have to be all grey and black and red.The hair looks totally glam-tastic, though. That's the only thing that catches my eye, and who's to say that can't be on purpose, either? Do whatever you want, man!
necrolicious
Here's the inicial sketch.

Another WIP... I think I am narrowing in on the pose I want.
One more time!
Amazing work guys everybody it´s taking with such care their entries! that´s great! It´s more fun that way !! I will critic some of you later... at artist´s time, meaning = at night !
More Rosie wip.....
I was not very pleased for time and subject on the dark theme on my previous concept so I threw it away! HAHA!so I went a bit lighter with the topic after all this history it´s about a young student and should be fun to watch!
So I make her a bit younger and also made some cool and easy composition, although I am not sure if this canvas frame it´s acceptable for CHOW ?? any one knows? since I have seen different kinds of canvas comp, but I think it is best if I ask any of you that already know! Let me know what you think on the composition and if you like the hat or not?
Jasper : Thanks for the critic on the dark saturation, my computers show it fine but they are all mac with the resolution I work with so I could be in trouble if you are having that issue! Thanks! I am uploading the concept once more just the check if it shows alright or not ??
Your design looks good !! about the outfit question as long as there´s no panties showing in my opinion looks best! the holes can be used as buttons like you did already!

Going with a more cartoon approach, less leather, more witchy. My first design/scene had her walking with a zombie following her and carrying her books but I see a lot of people going that way and I don't want to seem like I'm copycatting.
Just started yesterday...hopefully I will be able to finish. The dog is going to be under her hand. I am also thinking of moving her other arm...it looks a little stiff.
