JSNeo and Reme's Fine Art Journey

I decided to start a thread in the fine art section because I realize most of my drawings are mostly figure drawing, still life etc. So i figure they will fit in this section more and maybe get more criticisms.

My fren, Reme is also joining in the fun here

Those cast drawings look excellent. Where are you studying or how did you learn to do them?

some figures... been trying to avoid values for a while, just trying to get the proportions right first...

Norkagar> We've been learning from a teacher from china every weekend.. Neo is working currently as a rigger while i am studying at an animation school(my 3rd and final year) but im working now for my school's attachment programme til august. If only we have no jobs and have the money and luxury to study full time, we would
To learn them.... just get a cast and draw Or just get any still life object and draw life size! Hope this will answer your question

Hey JS Neo I'm already a fan of your drawings and now I post to say how much I admire your apples and pears painting.

Hey Reme really nice to see your drawings. I like your fluid lines. Its great your both posting together because it's really interesting seeing the different styles.

My teacher feel i need to go darker with my accents in my work. In these pieces, i tried to go darker but i feel I can go even further.

hey there, i'm a first year student from nanyang academy in singapore. your works are pretty impressive. neo's too =) i have some problems with proportions and perspective when i need to draw A2 or larger.. may i know the dimensions of your cast drawing? what pencils do you start your drawings with? i have some people telling me to start with 2b, others with 6b. does it matter?

this is a link of my works in deviantart, hope you can give me some feedback =D thanks man!

You guys have a large output!! And really impressive too!!

Your cast drawings turned out very well. As well as all the other drawings.

    The paintings rock too.

    I don´t have any criticism.

vaporz Ah u are studying in NAFA. The trick to checking ur proportion when drawing big is always walk back and look at your work from far. U need to move back enough so that u are able the whole drawing and the subject itself. At that size, u can then see the whole big proportion in one go. Alway work from big to small. If ur big proportion is wrong, no detail can save the drawing. Those cast drawing being posted are A2. We start from 8b, then move to 4B and possibly 2B if we need to.

I check out ur work on deviantArt. They look pretty decent. One thing to take note is where to put ur higher contrast should be ur point of focus, which for a face is usually the features like eyes, nose. Your drawing is lacking in it.

    bjoern3000 Thanks. Much appreciated!

love the gestures and the line weight in those.

Just thought i'd point out that there're still some basic proportion issues going on. Not a huge issue for gesture drawings, which I think you've done a great job capturing, but might be a problem if you decide to bring it to a more finished level without correcting it.

look out for your VHASP, as mentioned by Kchen in his figure drawing thread;d

keep in mind when foreshortening limps the construction of the foreshortened cylinder. this can help in preventing it from looking flat. the use of overlapping lines still shows clearly the spatial relationship between the interacting forms, but surrounded by areas where the form clearly reads, the contrast causes these foreshortened areas to appear more flat than they really are.

    Just some thoughts.

Are you guys doing sight size for the casts or? Who's the China artist btw? These chinese artists from China are crazy good. LINRAN is my god in digital realism;S

    Cheers
    Waine
