    Hello, hello!
I'm loving your enthusiasm for studies, you can definently tell they're starting to pay off already.
And on male models, I share your pain. Keep trying to make myself do female studies, but it's a little more embarresing when your grandparents come across you drawing them. xD

SO anyways, keep up the good work mate!

    thanks!
and yeah, there is definitely a bit of progress... a few months ago i could barely scribble some disproportioned figures with no shading or understanding of the posture. now i can scribble some accurate guidelines rather fast and with references and half a day i can make things im actually happy with...
good thing i dont really have a need to be embarrassed with anatomy studies, i bet it can be pretty distracting like that ^^

and a little ps color practice for a change... it can be pretty fun ^^
still have to ger my lines and pressure smoother so it wouldnt look that sloppy.

and some experiments with shading + random doodling

You're improving fast! Particularly like the post with the animals, interesting use of shading too on the figures there.
    Keep going

Yeah! animals are cool to draw, i wonder why i haven't tried before...

As for the shading, i think its called the riley's method. theres some tutorials out there. It needs a really good understanding of core shadows if you're drawing from mind so guess i wont be using it that much then XD

    @inspectorsokar thanks ^^

so, havent had much chance for drawing these days. Just a couple of sketches on the move while waiting around for stuff.

Finally started learning maya! the interface is quite well organised and i like it a lot! modeled that mausoleum thing in the end of this post, still textured and rendered in max though since i dont know how to set up fallout isometric view there.
starting to wrap up the webdesign for a Restoration business http://ainoait.com/ got the design and most of the coding done, just need the content.
cleaned up a lot and slacked off a lot... guess thats this half a week or though

His bottom leg seem to be disconnected. That or it bends far to much. His upper body looks kinda small compared to the lower body, that left upper leg seem to be huge, and he has no butt it seem to go from his back straight to his leg. Also his right fore arm doesn't look right, the biggest part of his for arm is like in the middle, and it as a weird dip. Same with his other form arm doesn't look right. I am not sure but shouldn't there be a least a little bit of folding between his left top arm and fore arm since its bent like that? His chest is far to small compare to the huge length of the abs.

    Hope this helps

Thanks a lot diarum! started to see several mistakes once you pointed them out!

made the left leg curve less (still a bit overdone but i like curves ^^) bulked/widened him up in photoshop (downside of working with on an A3, hard to evaluate proportions that well...)
left leg's huge since the reference was like that, the ass could be bumped up a tiny bit where the hand is but overall thats how it looked (still fixed/curved the line a bit to hint it a bit) right forearm was completely fuxored, fiddled with it a bit, the dip "was" there but removed it for aesthetic purposes, the other hand received a tiny fold and some shadow, think it improved a bit, will give it another look with fresh eyes tomorrow...

    night all!

Great shading, but I think it's too low in contrast. Add some darker shadows?
Also, his arms seem freakishly long to me.

@mary freakishly long indeed ^^ eh, better luck next time.
il keep in mind to use my trusty 6b next time to bump up contrast... it's just a bit messy to play around with :/

So, starting to draw things from my mind... cityscapes are freakin hard to come up with!! :/
I will try to color it tomorrow but meantime you can point out if theres any major bugs or general constructive criticism to be shared!

blergh, spent soo many hours on this. Rreally not my style of coloring, especially with so small and detailed drawing, i think il crank out the watercolors instead, perhaps il be more lucky...

really like those animals. guy at the top of his page, his foot looks like a little stump. you should get your mind in there and figure out how that foot is actually shaped and work on it!
i really love the city with the scootergirl. is that cg watercolours, or real? you managed to get her weight/balance/pose all seem convincing, ontop of the funny perspective so good job with that! keep it up

@aks9 Nice point with the "stump" thingie, hadnt noticed it myself!
And yeah, scooter's color was done in cg. The pose came out pretty neat too considering that its one of the first finished pieces without a reference since i started these studies some months ago! guess it has paid off ^^

Been a grazy week- town trips, potato picking, birthday party, construction, etc. finally got some time for drawing... came up with this:
    Name: chick.jpg
Views: 322
Size: 140.7 KB
large res n more detail: http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y297/mrmad/deta.jpg
still coloring it in Photoshop (ideas on color-combo's would be useful since my gray and purple gets a bit too monotone :/)

The drawing itself is kind of a starcraft meets wow thing. It feels so much more rewarding creating characters instead of blunt grinding on anatomy ^^.
    more uptates tomorrow!

Hey mate! Looks good so far, though I think her left arm (our left, by the way xD) is a wee bit short, even for the angle. But I'm sure it's easily fixable. Love the detail in her clothes and can't wait to see it coloured

and yeah, picking good, fitting colors must be the most time-consuming thing ever! ^^ i guess its easier when you do painting instead of cell-shading but im still long from there :/

Looking good dude. Its just really the foreshortening on the arms that throw it a bit for me. I believe the hand with the staff should appear larger not smaller if it is coming towards the viewer.. Anyhoo's keep it up man...

Ah! The colours work quite well together, the cold colours bring out the warmth in the woman's skin too.
Yeah, the like RandAlThor says- the hand should be a wee bit bigger. I'm terrible at these sorts of things but I think picturing the entire arm as three overlapping shapes(two cylinders and kind of circle?) then it kind of helps you get the gist.
Well, there's always time to practice perspective, keep on posting
