Welcome to muh sketchbook!

After much procrastinating I've finally decided to start a sketchbook here, inspired by the before/after ConceptArt thread. I have a Deviantart account if you'd like to look through my older work; it goes back about 5 years, though in the later years I was super slack about drawing- no more!

With the goal of going back to school to study art clear in my mind, I plan to update this thread with my newer works as much as possible, keeping in mind my 9-5 and my craptastic scanner. I do a lot of gesture drawing using posemaniacs but I haven't posted a lot of the work since it's extremely messy. I'll get it up on here eventually though, as I want to improve!

These are pieces I've completed from the past several years that reflect the style I'm most familiar with... anime ::ducks:: . It's what inspired me to draw when I was younger, so I just went with it. I fully intend to study still life and poses from life, though, and I'm not particularly attached to anime anymore.

More recently, I've taken an acrylic painting class and decided to draw/noodle around a little everyday, so here are some results from that. Note: the water lily is from photo reference.

The painting below is still in progress. I can see myself putting many hours into it to get the flesh-tones correct and the facial features... x_x But I will keep at it!

The second image is a goalie-helmet design I'm working on for a friend. It was colored using COPIC markers.

The third is a nude sketch using stock from Deviantart. I have a looooong way to go with nude sketching, but again, I intend to keep at it and eventually I will get better. The crappy quality is due to my current lack of scanner. T_T

Another nude study, again from reference and two pages of gestures drawn in 45 seconds each, via Posemaniacs. Rrrg, I feel like I used to be better at drawing than this, I guess that's what I get for leaving it for so long. Onwards and upwards!

So I finally decided that the hair model painting was finished, mainly because I'm tired of working on it and want to move on. It's pictured below with the reference I used. Also, have another nude model!

I recently begun a new painting (under-painting first) of one of my favorite scenes from Season 5 of Doctor Who. I knew I wanted to paint it as soon as it came up on the screen. Sorry about the blurriness of the second photo, my light was fading and I was too lazy to dig out the tripod.

The Doctor Who painting I've been working on is as done as it's going to get. I wish the people in the painting looked more like them. I tried to be as detail-oriented as possible. Hopefully with more practice it'll come easier.

My husband bought me some wood-backed canvas for my birthday and I want to paint them and put them up in our living room. Now to find some sun flowers...

Whoa... huge improvement jump from last painting to the skeleton. The painting had value problems, but your skeleton study looks a lot better in comparison.

Thanks. I'm a lot more comfortable with the pencil; I've sketched since I could remember, but I've only seriously been painting for a little more than a month. More practice it is!
