Hi, I am a beginning oil painter and I have become quickly overcome by the lack of understanding for the fundemental basics on setting up a basic studio. How do I light my pallette? How do I light my canvas? Here are some pictures of my messy yet livable studio. Check it out.

Hi.

As a lefty your easel should be lit from the right side and as a righty it should come from the left side. You have a glass palette - so make sure you don't have any glare on it while mixing paint. I wouldn't set up a backlight. Light always contracts the pupills - unless you need a backlight in your painting subject you shouldn't place any light behind your easel.
