Thanks unlink again - it means a lot from a bloke with your skill.

Rite - i've let myself down today - far to many distractions (mainly HAWP, BF3 Beta and football) really need to stop being a dick and work as soon as i wake up in stead of putting it off, then not wanting to sleep because i want to paint at like 2 am.

However refining the mentalist piece - im going awauy from the mental idea - and pushing towards amazement - like an alien encounter? hence the lights.

any ideas? i really need to get the hair and ear defined more as they look rediculous at this point.

    Lighting practice

from equilibrium - i plan to do 5 studies all from the same lighting condition to practice surfaces and just general light dynamics. figure if i do a couple of diferent studies from the same condition i'll get a better understanding.

probably going to do some warm studies nxt the following week.

    Peace!

Oh and its a wip and no colour picking as usual.

It looks like you've already improved a lot since the first page. Keep up the good work! Your use of value has gotten stronger - keep working on that, and don't be afraid to use darker values in the shadows. Play with creating focal points in your paintings by making chosen areas have more contrast- darker darks and lighter lights. Would also love to see more warm colors in your studies =)

You're getting better very fast, maybe try to reference some colors and value when practicing illustration, not too deeply, but overall look.

Wow, Super rendering and solid structure, Portraits are excellent, Great start for you too, I do suggest making more imaginative pieces like the landscapes and dramatic scenes, the cyborg is wicked, but put more story into the scenes, if you observe successful comic artists, illustrators (Hal foster, Frazetta, NC Wyeth, it is as if they carry a story preset in their head, every page and sketch breathes life into the paper, its second nature to them. I immensely admire the fact you take patience in creating your works, a trait many neglect and underestimate, if your patient and super focused the ideas flow smoother and naturally, if your getting lost drawing, painting, chances are the viewers will too.

    sup yall!

    rokushoxxx - Thanks man!

Blenz - thanks alot, i really need to push my landscapes more like that one. need to study more as im still a bit of a landscape noob.

KrispyKream - thanks for the advice, i know my work is very generic, i think im just concentrating on the actual rendering and structure - i know im no where near the confidence or coherency i want to be, and in turn im not being very creative, but im trying to turn that around (slowly). Thanks again some very usefull ideas

-D_art- - thanks a lot pal. im trying to touch on everything, however im still scaired to death of vehicles :/ something to work at.

Zikes - Cheers buddy, hopefully some more will join the party soon!

im starting to feel this piece is starting to resemble an actual person rather than whatever the hell kinda cartoon thing it was before. need to throw in some alien stuff. still not sure what the hells going on. been drawing a lot of noses and eyes as to help puch this along.

Fun stuff! on your studies, they're varying in quality quite a lot. I feel like you're gaining fast in rendering textures and lighting, and your observation drawings are really good. Maybe you need to concentrate more on your references when you're drawing things you 'know' how to do, though, like faces and (above) boobies. They feel 'detailed', but not necessarily modeled. Maybe break them down to areas of light and shadow, and work from huge to small brush, rather than leaping in with hard outline the mouth and eyes, etc. The portrait you're doing is coming along, but I think you need to leave off the detailing for a minute and just check that you're getting enough form in the mouth and eyes especially. The eyes are popping out quite a lot because the whites are so much bluer and lighter than the surrounding skin. Better to pick a slightly lighter and only slightly cooler version of the skin colour to knock them back into the sockets.

    Good luck, mate.

Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook and leaving the helpful comments. I really enjoyed looking thru your sketchbook, I liked your use of deep saturated colors. This sepia toned piece above feels strong so far. I don't know how far you plan to take the piece but I think If you put some effort into rendering the texture of the fur more closely it'll really bring out that sumptuous feeling the image has.

Some of your recent digital work is looking very well executed.

On this piece, however, I cannot for my life fathom why the ear would light up like that. If it is the yellow light on his right shining through the flesh and hence the blood within, shouldn't the back of the head be blocking it, at least partially? Anyway, I'm sure you're reffed well. Just my feedback.

    Keep updating.

    double sup?!

Springly - thanks for the crit man. im sick, and the illness is cronic detail--itus. cant help myself lol. really trying hard to keep it simple, but im still weak. something im trying to fix. yeh i see what you mean, originally i planned on a frontal light source from a small purple light, but it wasnt working but i left it in the eyes for some stupid reason.
    -D_art- - thanks man!
CarmenJudy - thanks for the kind words, that image is just a study, but i see what you mean. its something i'll have to impliment down the line
Vritra- Thanks a lot, yeh its a little (lot) extreme, something i love painting - its ment to be from the blue light. im not really referencing from a single image, ive got a mirror on my desk and the ear was a seperate image. i'll probably tone it down, theres probably going to be smoke in the air to validate some ambiant light, but i went a bit silly. thanks !

small update, im working on some weaknesses of mine atm, the first on is metal and just all round clothing - and youy'll see that in the post. the second on is shrubery and just general greenery. the progress on that is just as rough, infact im not even going to show it as it insults my eyeballs at the moment. but i will post next time hopefully.

The fabrics need a lot of work, as do the armour and everything else lol.

Hey man, thanks for dropping by my sketchbook.

In This one The metal is looking pretty great but the anatomy seems a bit off. His right arm is way too small, I guess it's the perspective but it somehow just doesn't look right. And it looks like there's some kind of extra length where his crouch area should be, Try making some basic anatomy lines over your armor in a bright color and it should probably reveal itself.

    Good work!
