    Into the breach..

    Hi all,

A short course in 3D modelling led me to drawing which i have been doing for almost 9 months now - the last 4 of which i have picked up digital painting.

This is my second digital painting (the first being the obligatory billiard ball which i can't find).

    Crits and comments welcome.

    Train sketch book

This is the sketch book I use when I'm on the train. Again, sorry for the quality. Maybe I should make that my signature.

    Home sketch book

This is the one I use when I'm at home, unless I get a bigger bag, in which case I'll call it something else.

Thanks LasseHeuer. I had a look at your sketch book and you have a nice variation of work. It's always good to try something new; any experience is good experience.

Thanks seesty. You've got a nice breadth of work and your anatomy is coming along nicely + those sketch book entries on the last page have a nice looseness to them.

Yo mate! Nice work! Really love the photo realistic rendering of yours =) Great technique.

Oh! Also noticed you're in Melbs! Wanna come to sketchgroup? hehe. It's on every Sunday in the city, a bunch of artists get together and sketch our asses off for a few hours, and you are totally welcome dude =)

Let me know if you want to come down.

    Cheers, Daz

This good in 9 months?! Dammit Fush you got me breaking out the double punctuation, and I'm sorely tempted to go back and add some more.
Inspiring to see what intensive nose-to-grindstone does.
Bring out your crits, asspats, and assorted comments
    I got me a sketchbook...
Slow, yet hopefully steady, improvement. This way

The Sceptical Saint: Cheers for feedback. Looking at your skecthbook it looks like you're getting a good handle on values + that picture of the chicks face has got some nice fleshy tones.

Magic Man: Thanks very much. That pic of Syd Mead is spot on - real nice values in there + keen on doing sketch meet-up. Time and place?

    Crisp

These are quick, train doings with the aim of confident, crisp lines (hence no render) - the opposite to what my sketch lines have been so far.

Hopefully I'll get a scanner for my birthday.

    Movie stills

I want to get faster at sketching and sketching accurately. I choose movie plates as I reckon I will learn more from the lighting than I would with an image from Google image search.

    Colour Study

This is another still from "The Fifth Element" - it's a hand crushed in a concrete door with a key coming from the finger.

I am still getting caught up on detail and need to keep my colours more blocked and overall quicker. I found that instead of using the picture at full size it was easier to see colours and shapes by reducing it to around post-it note size. I'm guessing this is approximate to the technique of squinting to see general shapes and colours.

Whirly: Thanks, I did use photo ref for the billiard ball and the pilot. Nice 3D stuff by the way.
