equilerex: I almost missed you then! You've given a very helpful comment, so thankyou. I keep thinking I should draw my pictures bigger whilst I try to get the hang of eyes. And I have a long way to go where it comes to anatomy, but I'll keep working to get better.

Trailblazer: Thankyou! I'm planning on spending a whole day on anatomy studies and faces since I've been slacking off, hopefully I'll get back into the habit of studying. xD

yeah, working big gives a lot more freedom although its takes much more effort too since you have to fill in "all" the space smaller and "compressed" drawings lack... not to mention it seems easier to keep an eye on proportions on smaller drawings but its still well worth the effort and gives a lot of experience. (and better result if you have motivation to go til the end)

good luck and will keep an eye out for those anatomy studies

Hi Naidy, it's been really great seeing how much you've progressed from the first page till page 6! And in such a short time too.

Yes, I've noticed in the past whenever I worked bigger I always messed up proportions I'm glad it's a common phenomina. xD

Also, have more little studies in, IGNORE THE TWO FEMALE FIGURES because I drew them to benifit someone else, and I know I'm terrible with female anatomy myself so I probably wasn't much help to them, lol.

Edit: Ah! I keep missing people
Very sorry Kry, and thank you so much. xD
I have to admit any improvement is due to mainly a combination of this great website and having a lacking social life on my part xD

You can see improvement here =).
Keep on working, you are on the right way to get better and better.
Maybe you should try to do a lot of quick sketches for anatomie. Could help you maybe to get more flexibility and base forms into your art.

btw. Your style reminds me of one friend from me. She drawes a bit like this too (faces). It's a cute style =)
I can do so little in so much time!

Many thanks Klaus! I checked your sketchbook and it has tempted me to try the same. If I have time I might do some later xD
and that's so weird, I'd love to see your friend's stuff

So, took advice and started drawing a bit bigger whilst I was practicing eyes and I'm surprised how much fun I had. xD
I'm usually scared to draw faces big because they go wrong each and every time.
But with practice I should get through that problem right?

    looking good!

the bottom left is the best imo, everything looks perfect there.

the big face is quite distorted but i guess its the big paper issue and you probably noticed it yourself... the nose comes down completely straigtht, since the head is tilted a bit to the left, the nose should also shift since its a triangular object pointing outwards. locations and sizes are a bit messed too, either the head is too long or eyes-nose ratio, location is wrong, can really point it out :/

best i solution i could come up with without drawing is smth like this:
the nose would need a redraw though.

the hair is really nice btw, might try smth like that myself ^^
the eyes are also neat, if you want to experiment more in the future, you could try making the eyelashes thicker/bigger for female eyes... kinda like mascara, makes it more feminine. The style of these doesnt include much shading but if you do, eye whites will also benefit a bit when theire shaded a lil in the edges. could also use more contrast for the pupils (and lashes as i said) and to top it off you could have a look at some photos of different eyebrow styles, they can really add that extra touch.

Woah! Equilerex, I can't believe how helpful you are. If I could, I'd be thanking you more than just once xD
After I drew her I realized how horse faced I made her. I only took reference from a picture of eyes so you can tell it went downhill from there

Shading the whites, I kept thinking about doing that yet I was so scared of making them look weird, I need to experiment more in that aspect- same with eye sizes and lash thickness.

I'll be keeping your tips in mind next time I draw!

firstly i just have to get this out of the way. you're really pretty and i love your photo. lol, secondly i am not a stalker or anything. and thirdly i like your drawings; you seem to try hard and put in lots of effort. not sure what advice to give you... i don't really follow the rules of "go do anatomy till you bleed" kind of thing. are you studying art or anything?

My goodness, I've been getting so much feedback today!

Colour: Thank you! I'm hoping to get even further by september!

Lang: Haha, great to see you again and I will do!

Calisto: Honour to see you on my humble sb, people like you aspire to work hard and keep up the progress!

Nonplussed: Goodness, I'm not sure how exactly to respond, it's not often I'm called pretty xD- I'm a little embarresed, but thank you.
I only started properly studying once I started this sketchbook(and even then, not really until three pages in).
You see, when I had finally pinned up my AS art coursework at school I realized just how much more effort I could have put into it. I was pretty shamed with myself but through that shame I swallowed my fears and made a sketchbook here- because I knew how much people here could help me.
(Yes, you may start playing the violins for me)

Anyways, Again I want to thank everyone for the constant support and tips. If you ever see me being lax with the studies feel free to beat me up.

oh that's cool. so you're in college. well.. i only really started drawing figures and stuff when i was 18, just before university. so i wouldn't worry too much about where you're at or where you're going. just focus on your interests and drives; your passions. ;-) and then your will to draw and express will flow from there. hardcore anatomy could kill off your interest in art, so just be wary of that kind of generic advice.. not that it's bad, but i did life drawing for ages and i studied loomis and all that, but in the end i only began to learn when i isolated myself from all of those supports.

Well, not exactly collage, still highschool technically xD
And honestly I don't mind anatomy studies at all, I've been doing an A3 page of them daily before I perhaps move onto drawing something I want to, or even getting bored and sticking horns and fancy hair on them *as seen above*

I don't think of drawing as anything offputting or painful to do if I'm in the right frame of mind, infact I usually wind up drawing if I attempt to do anything else. xD

Her name is Platina~ http://platina.deviantart.com/ But there is less of the work I mean. Mmh somewhere on a other Board you could see more art like in the style of yours.

Hey Thanks for the reply in my sketchbook. I was browsing trough your work and you have much talent ! lots of progress I can see you pull of some great pencil lines which gives your work a lot of flow. But sometimes you overdo it with to many thick lines and the drawing becomes more a render without flow and feel to it. Keep a eye on that!. Hope my words can help you But we are pretty much same level. Anyway cu!=)

EDIT: HOW DO I KEEP MISSING PEOPLE?
Inemzz: You're totally welcome and thank you so much! Yes, I keep finding myself going to thickly over things and making it appear flat, thank you for saying something because I was really wondering where I was going wrong. I used to be practically infamous for my messyness so it's nice I'm making progress in that field.

Klaus: Goodness, she's got a lovely gallery and lol, I went through a phase where I could only draw noses that looked like my own, I need to practice nasal veriety xD

Ah, Bombur, you'll catch up to my age soon enough I'm guessing xD

    ANYWAYS
I come back with some miniscule updates.

A still life done in... about 2 minutes.
Yes, it was meant to be a pepper.

Tried to fix little Miss Horse-face and added another little figure.

I think today's a writing day for me but having said that when I get tired I'll probably try out that gesture drawing thing- I've never tried before so it'll be interesting

You're doing very very well! I wish I had the dedication you have, drawing more and more means more improvement, and I've been at about 4 pages in about a year. XD

Anything to critique has already been mentioned by others, dont be afraid to reference sometimes, and study the face. C:

That's a great horse drawing on the last page and the unicorn drawing right after it. Good faces in your drawings, especially your art spam
Did you mark that pepper as F- yourself? heh. Make sure you use patience, it is useful!
I think learning the skeleton and muscles is verrrry good. I know drawing bones can be boring shit but it's totally useful for anatomy. I only just realized that very recently though.

Thanks mate! I actually really like doing the studies(especially the muscle ones oddly), it's still lifes I can't stand currently (yes, I did mark it myself) But then again, I really shouldn't be attempting acrylic paintings first thing in the morning before breakfasts xD

ahh, the portrait's a bit better now, the nose still looks a bit off and the jawline is too arched but should be good enough for practice, besides you did really well with the next drawings (the ink ones in face-practice have all the proportions right, very nicely done, i like them quite a bit.

dunno, about the muscles and bones, havent got to that myself.
ahh and the peppers are great tbh, they have that abstract factor going for them, not that great to illustrate peppers but artsy enough to slap on a frame and put on a wall.. some people like that kind of paintings!

well, keep it up, youre like a busy bee now ^^

Aha, thanks mate, my Gran was going on about how she liked that pepper- I was horrified xD

And yes, I had the feeling something was still off with her face- all a bit of trial and error there, though I'll probably leave her and go onto other face studies.
