yay, I made it to 3 pages.

I have had to spend about 6 hours every day grading students' tests for a week now, so my hand is in a lot of pain I haven't been able to do any drawing where I sit down for a long time, but I'm trying to do little bits here and there.

more people in pen. I am hoping doing some studies like this in pen will help me when I go out and draw people outside and don't have time to get things right:

Thanks for dropping by my sketchbook
You seem to be getting better and better at grasping anatomy with your studies. My recommendation would be to do some muscle studies to really understand the anatomy of each limb and section of the body. The gestures are turning out great, but studying muscles/bone might help when you get down to the details of rendering, and understanding why there might be a bump or lump on certain spots of the body

Sonia, thank you for the suggestion! I've been doing sooo many gestures lately that you're right, I should dedicate some time to doing muscle studies as well! I will start doing those again.

    Hey Amarok -

For making a brush for blending, have you tried messing around with the brush presets in ps? You can take one of the default brushes like a hard round or something, and set it to 'pressure' and turn on 'smoothing' in the preset options. Also, experimenting with the modes of the brushes on different layers is cool - at the top beside where you select your brush types. You can set it to multiply or whatever and mess around on different layers on top of your original drawing.

After not even TWO years, my intuos3 is dead. the little prongs on the back that are supposed to keep the cord in place instead slowly gouged their way into the cord over time, ruining it. I don't have several hundred dollars to drop on a new tablet and don't even know how to buy them in the country I'm living in.

studies in progress from the past couple days i can't finish:

pencil studies/self-portrait. sick and coughing up my lungs this weekend, but good excuse to stay home and draw.

Some distortion on the figures from having to take pictures, so they look even worse than they are. Sorry.

Bonjour, thanks for commenting on my thread.
Good stuff here. You're working nice and hard on those figures and faces. Nice monsters, too. It seems you're having some difficulty with mass, especially in the face. Try some self-portraits in dramatic lighting; they're good for learning facial structure, and you can manipulate the lighting. (Although, all your faces after that will start to look like yours...) this portrait is a good step from the others you've done. Also, this sketch is very interesting, and the composition differs a lot from the other things you've posted, which are usually centered.

    Keep on chugging

Your landscapes are improving really fast, good on you! The sketches for paintings in your latest post - the one with the skulls is great, really interesting composition. The second one's a bit boring, way too balanced, split down the middle. Try a bunch of compositional thumbnails - just a pile of 30 second doodles to try different compositions - and I'm sure you'll be able to come up with something way more interesting.

I so much like when you do naked female
drawings and paintings. Makes me feel so delighted.
Work more, watch on proportions and be consistent.
You will improve even more and become something
big and great. Just remember to pray every day

Your animal studies are great! I can see you're improving a lot right away. Watch your proportions and perspective/foreshortening, some of your figures get a little wonky because of it (#70, first one). Really like the figure in your first painting study, with his arms folded over his head. Looks really natural.

Thank you all for the criticism! I really appreciate it, and I will try to follow your advice.

carakhan--thanks for the input. I really suck at perspective of any kind, yeah.
LtPlissken--thank you! Have been taking a break from naked ladies for a bit, but once I get a tablet again...
Revidescent--Thank you for your criticism. I usually do draw thumbnails, but they don't do me much good since I suck.
Nuked Tofu--appreciate the idea! Yeah, no matter how many faces I draw or how hard I try, they always look flat. I'll try doing some SPs in different lighting, and hopefully that'll help a bit!

Finally getting a new tablet next week, so just have to survive with pencils until then. Will also be on vacation from work for a couple of weeks so I can finally spend a lot of time drawing and painting, yay.

Cute kirbies done to appease children, but I defaced the page as soon as they left...

today's studies (backs) and a couple of really awful master studies in progress. It's OK if they look bad, though, as long as I learn something from doing them, and I'll keep working on these...

Hey bro, can see you a bit frustrated with your stuff =) Your anatomy is coming nicely =) Would maybe suggest a bit of gesture drawing, I use just some light lines trying to capture the idea of the form, don't rush these lines, draw them smoothly.. Hope that helps =) Have fun with your next study =)

Hey! Keep them coming! can see that the anatomy studies are paying off. and how long are those gesture drawings? Think it'll be good to do quick 30s or lesser as it will then force you to nail down the posture and proportion quickly. Keep practicing!
