    Rise of the Eldrazi

    Hello,

Been one hell of a posting frenzy the past couple of weeks! Damn inspiring. With 'MADE' workshop coming up and all the great artists demoing... should be a great time for those whom can make it.

Anywho, Wizards have finally lowered their art towers to show off their latest set of Magic cards titled the 'Rise of the Eldrazi.' Its a really cool set and was really honored to help design the actual alien 'Eldrazi' race with Richard Whitters, Mark Tedin, and Vince Proce.

I'm attaching what Wizards posted on their main site. If I can, I will post more concepts and larger images if given the 'go ahead'.

Lastly, I've just started working over at Visceral Games creating some visuals for a big unannounced project. Its exciting and mostly like will be awhile before I can show any work from there. So even though I may not post that often, there are plenty of things brewing.

    Long live CA!

Bomba...You said Visceral Games? They did Dante's Inferno... If you're working on some DLC or another game from them then... hell yeah I can't wait for that to drop!

Oh, and good work on this dump here too.

Thanks for the replies.. I have not heard back from the right people to get clearance to show more work from the Rise of the Eldrazi project. But I am going to scan in some of my personal sketches as I seem to be gathering a small reputation for my thumbnails and rough sketches and post those in the meantime.

2kre8---> I never know, but thanks for saying!!!
Eric Lofgren---> It was cool to be set loose to define something original. At least, try to be original... hard to do these days as the world of concepting expands in all directions.

Idiot Apathy---> Aye you! Thanks, but its more similar to crashing on someone's couch right now than a home. Be nice if it turns into a full time gig.

cognition.sb---> Mucho thanks man, appreciate it.

Stark---> Yep, that's the place. Its a perfect fit for my style of work and interest.

Bomba these designs are just so, so good.
And the first work really has this great edge to it.
I like how you set the creature an epic distance away from the viewer with this ring of destruction rippling out from it, its like your watching an atomic bomb going off and your too close to escape it - like this titanic alien monstrosity is bringing reality to an end.
Really cool and you did it all with a daytime pallete - sweet work!

The creature designs are really classy too; incredibly imaginitive and not just weird for the sake of it; you can sense the function there in the anatomy - theres purpose to the forms but the mysterious nature to the creatures keeps it obscured in a cool way, not in a random "...yeah, ill just slap an arm right there" way.
It really heightens that disturbing "alien" feeling.

Really well done incorporating geometric shapes in just the right locations, too.
    Just great stuff, keep rockin.

Hey Jason! Great stuff as usual. Your concepts for the Eldrazi were super f#%*ing cool and inspireing to say the least. I did a lot of those also and will probably be posting them soon. Whats up with the aspect ratio for the first to cards? Were there cards like that in this set? Been playing with my kid, the Eldrazi cards are friggin tough to beat once they finally get on the field.
    Awesome, five stars!

I'll be updating this thread with some thumbnail creatures. So far, no dice on getting the approval to show more of the design work that I did for the Eldrazi... still trying though.

Cryptcrawler---> Really flattered man, honestly I am always trying to push myself to try a new way to work including color pallets. Been working as a environment concept artist over at EA has really made me reassess the way I work every step of the way. As always, dig your work.

VINCE!---> Your work and designs kicked ass for the Eldrazi. What I though was great is that everyone involved brought a different flair to each of the races/creatures. I remember the AD on purpose did not share the concepts that each of us were doing so we would not accidentally be inspired to do something different. A good and bad thing actually.

The aspect ratio is for the colorless cards... they need the art to be full bleed that includes the whole entire card. Not sure if you got a card that said 'Colorless', but that is what happened on those two.

Holeinscalp---> Glad you dug these images!

Izzy!---> Thank man! Yeah, it was a great gig... hoping to be involved in future ones as well. Fingers crossed!
