Icon Eytan's work NEW 7/29/10 with tutorial!

Hi everyone! My name is Eytan, formerly quick_sketch on these forums. Havn't really posted in this section very much, but thought I might share this with you.

I just turned 22 and I have just finished my four years at Otis College of Art and Design. Here's my portfolio from this semester. My main focus has been environment concept design with a minor in characters so to speak. Please enjoy.

What a tremendous portfolio to be graduating with. Your hard work has paid off my friend. I especially like the greyscale enviros--it really shows that you can mass produce these things and they look incredible.

Sweet work! Your environmental work is very solid!

I do think the street courier character esp. is a little bit stiff. In terms of pose, clothes/folding, and rendering. That would be my two cents, hope you don't mind.

    Again, good work!

WOW indeed! Very beautiful work and I can see that you put in some very serious work time.

I like them all. The drug manufacturer is superb but it is the workshop one that I would love to have on my wall. A most impressive body of work.

I wish you all the best in your endeavours.

    Stellar

It was a real treat to scroll down this thread. Your B&W enviros are really special and for a person who is primarily an enviro artist your characters are of excellent quality. Glad you posted in this section and congrats on the portfolio.

My jaw dropped immensely when I saw this. You have such a way of composition and colours it's really solid stuff man.

Though I wouln't use white borders, your eye tends to first go for highlights then darks first, so surrounding all your darks with a bright border is really distracting and prevents you from getting immersed in your beautiful environments. I'm sure you did it too not blend in the crowd of everyone else, but hey if it's not broken don't fix it.

Your backgrounds are beautiful enough to stand out from the crowds of others. Some really smooth stuff you have going on here, I can't wait to see more!

what everyone else said. and glad to see a fellow Otis kid tearing it up! Beautiful enviros! If i can offer any practical advice w/ your folio, is given that you have 99% enviros and then a couple characters thrown in, just ditch the characters. Art directors want to see your passion and thats what theyll hire you for. Dont sweat the variety package, the tiny characters/figures you have in your enviros to help instill some scale/story are more than adequate. good luck!

wow thank you everyone for your feedback, that is some awesome encouragement right there. I will for sure post more soon!

tmza, natzuur-jk, Maximilian S, fightingSeraph, call0ps, edisonjaymes, majora, lisandroG, john bridges, dkounios, tjh:

Thank you guys so much, you are too kind! I'm really glad you guys like my work so much, I'll be sure to post more often!

    Luke - yeayuh boy!

Ikage - You know that's a good point. I tried doing a dark grey back ground and everything kind of bled together. It works on the printed portfolio a lot better i guess.

Smokenmirrors - thanks for the crit. Although when i show my portfolio to art directors, the characters always seem to make them like it more. They go through the portfolio and then theyre like oh! you can do characters too! I guess people don't generally assume I can do characters if all I show are environments.

jung - thanks man! it was an honor learning from you, I learned everything i know about environments from your classes. for sure, we should grab lunch. this time ill pay........maybe.

izzy - you the fuckin man! thanks for being a killer teacher dude

clanlord- thanks man, i don't really have any tutorials, but if i end up saving my process im sure ill post it back here.

stoph- hey man glad you like the work. definitely not a billion job offers, not even close haha. though i dunno what youre talking about your work is awesome!

ill be back, im gonna post soon i swear!
