The Life Of a *VECTOR* Artist...

Hey Guys and Gals,

I have been a long time admirer of the site and all the uber talented artist within. I am a Graphic Illustrator by trade and own a little sign shop on the Big island of Hawaii.

I haven't seen many Vector Artist on the site so I thought I would try to motivate my self by doing a vector sketch a day. I welcome any comments, critiques or insights that you might have.

Mahalo (thank you) for all the inspiration, and hopefully I can do the same for you.

Here is day 1 and the first vector sketch. It's a Ying Yang Turtle concept with a slight Asian flare. Again any and all comments are welcome.

Bolo welcome to CA! Great start to your sketchbook. I have always admired vector art, but am not quite confident or skilled enough (yet) to try my hand at it. But it is without a doubt one of the mediums that inspires me and that I aspire to. The first piece u posted is beautiful. I am glad I logged on in time to find it!

your yin/yang turtle design is very nice! i like the sharp edges and the sleekness of the design. also the colors are well done, they work well together and dont over power each other, good job

Found this while cleaning out my computer. An hour study with digital oils in painter I did about 3 years ago.

Working on day 3. Here is a stylized simple phoenix design. with some Uchiwa fans in the BG. I should tell you that I am also making these for car decals to sell at my shop.

I'll definitely be following this SB. I used to work in Flash and Illustrator a good bit, so I know how tough vector can be sometimes. It carries its own unique problems.

There's some very beautiful stuff here. Are you a Hawai'i native? I can sense an influence in some of your stuff.

My favorite piece is the digital oils skullrose. I know it was done a long time ago, but the way you blended tones there was nice.

The batman sketch caught my eye, too. I'm a ways off with working with ink, I need my eraser too much hahaha. About the batman sketch though, he looks quite feminine the way his thighs and shoulders are broader but he has a thinner waist. Obviously you won't be able to change that, but in the future, especially with superhero males, expand the chests and waist so they're in proportion with the head.
