    Sorry I've only done 9 here >.< I'll upload a 10th later.

Frankly i'm very new to environment drawing, so apologies before hand if these seem really bland and unimaginative. I've spent the past 3 months just getting used to the human figure so expanding has been...painful

I didn't expect thumb nailing enviros to be so challenging. I tried my best to keep perspective in mind doing them all but they are no doubt off in some way or another.

Yeah, I was kinda unhappy with the first few, and took some time to re-read some articles regarding environments, I tried harder to keep Foreground, Mid-groud, and Background more clear in the last two- Also blocking in helps alot more than I initially gave it credit.

So from here do I select one and try to create a final image?

How about you do 10 more. That way you might come up with even better ones and then we're going to choose a winner. The hardest part is the beginning stage which are thumbnails. So work more on your thumbnails so that your brain gets used to being creative.

Well here are some more thumbs, I did more than 10 just to get a hang of things. I also used some brushes i had rather than all hard-round like the previous ones. Just so the idea gets across better.

Hey DAMJAN, I was wondering if I could join in on your class? (Not sure if you have your hands full).

Heh. I tried my best at 10 thumbnails. Couldn't post here empty-handed after all!

Little Maiden: From the second batch I like first, fourth, eight.(all on the left)
I want you to take those strongest ones that we discussed and place them side by side for comparison and final vote.
v-lkry: I like your second, fight, sixth. You have a strong sense of composition.
vulcant13: Your first is the strongest. The rest is up to you. You are practicing a good composition so more you do, you will get more better thumbs to choose from for the final.

See, now you're getting somewhere and it's getting interesting. I like your 7, 8, 10. 6 has potential. Please do 10 more since other people did 20 altogether. By the way, nice texture in 8th.

    Talking

Sorry I interpreted your post in 2 ways. So i just selected the 6 and divided it into two rows- and numbered them in order to make the whole picking process clearer.

Personally I like number 5 a bit more than the rest but i'm not too fussed over which to do take to the next stage.

Little-Maiden The reason why 5 isn't that good is because it lacks interest. If you like the 5 best, do 5 more variations of that one and lets see which one is best. Try to make your focal point more interesting.
    vulcant13 I like your 12, 14, 15.

rem92, they are too light so I can't really see what is going on. Define foreground, mid ground and background please.
Little-maiden What's in number one? Your 4 and 7 are interesting.

umm, number 1 is supposed to be a girl sitting on a rock under a pool of light from above. I originally did those thumbnails at quite a large size and scaling them down seems to made some of the points hard to get across.

I like number 4 yeah, though i had a tough time indicating the large trees that are supposed to make up the background.

Here are my other 10 that I haven't submitted.

I tried kind of.. going on a larger scale for some of them and working on receding depth/perspective. Hm. Can't say some of it worked...

v-lkry your 12 & 14 look cool and then 16. A few others have a potential such as: 11, 13, 15. Before we go into a final, I was thinking we break down the elements and work on them individually. For instance, practice painting trees then rocks/mountains, then sky, etc. Once you guys have a full understanding, it would be easier to implement that in a whole design. What do you guys think?

I'm down with that, I doubt anything we do will go past thumbnail stage if we can't at least understand the forms that make up that space.

Alright, cool. The bad part is, my pc is really old so I can't record camtasia videos and share with you. I'll have to make picture/text tutorials and then guide you guys through it while you do it.

Yes there is, that's usually like this: http://www.planetware.com/i/photo/wa...noi-vie504.jpg
It's when you have like a very symmetrical design from both sides and there is a path like or a row of repeating elements then u can put it in center. However, your focal point is still not in the dead center. Like here:http://www.betterphoto.com/uploads/p..._walkway_2.jpg The tree is the focal point but its in the upper half of the image.
