This coming Sunday we begin a new round of live streaming classes with a very beautiful program on the art of the feminine form. With three beautiful demonstrations by Massive Black Shanghai artist Zhanglu, and an in depth presentation by Jason Manley (yep me!), you will hear and see the information you need to understand when painting the female figure.

When: Sunday May 2 2010 12PM - 4PM Central Daylight Time (Austin TX time). Four hours of beauty, instruction, and art are yours. An assignment will be included.
Where: Right here on ConceptArt.Org Live and On Demand (forums link to come!)
How: Just have an ok connection and we are good to go. We will be using TAD's technology which is stable, light on bandwidth, and extremely reliable. The login information will come with the email after tuition is covered.

1 Is this constructional/sculptural or visual figuredrawing?
2 Will there be an explanation of the basic forms used to allow drawing from memory?
3 Will Zhanglu be drawing from a live model or a photograph?
4 If drawn from a model or photograph, can you show the originals as to compare?

Thanks for all the questions. Here are some answers.

A. Zhanglu did the paintings. The class will consist of these images in demonstration form, along with a series of beautiful images from art history and photography to illustrate the major points.
B. We will be discussing everything from structure to anatomy to posing and body language, to methods used to create inner character, idealization, overcoming cliche, and more...We will discuss process, and theory as related to the female figure in order to help artists to better create from life and imagination. Understanding the female form and how to communicate with it, is of the most important things in the field of concept design, illustration, video games, film, and fine art. This is going to be a great class.
C. The video stream will be available On Demand and can be watched anytime.
D. There will be a live question and answer period which has a demonstration happening during that time as well, so you can get all the answers you want. Just ask.
The software we use allows for voice chat, so if you have a mic you can simply speak to me as you would if I were there with you. There is also text chat, for those without mics.
E. We have some beautiful things coming. I updated the thread with some examples of the works I will be discussing, along with the video demonstrations.
F. At time Zhanglu will gather reference for things like hands, or feet, or a particular face. Other times he works from imagination purely. I will ask for some ref, if he still has it.
G. Right now I do not have a download planned for this. This is a good taste of what TAD is going to be like. I can't wait to share some more.
H. This class is for beginners, intermediate and advanced artists. Everyone will take away information that helps them. The works we will explore are beautiful. I look forward to sharing all that is prepared.

Artists who join for this class get to ask questions directly, with their own voice and I may even have time to look at some of the student works, so have a link ready if I ask for one! You get the information and you get to learn. That is a good thing. It will be available On Demand too.

Not available for watching again? On Demand lets you watch it as many times as you want for 30 days... that´s a lot of days for 50$.

I'm curious - how long after the live class are the videos available to view?

I'm pretty excited about this. Zhang Lu is easily my favourite digital artist, and very close to being my favourite all time artist at the moment. Since figurative work is my primary interest, I think this is going to be just brilliant!

It has usually been 30days after the live class that one is able to watch the recorded version (which is identical to the live, except for the ability to ask your own questions). This new class streaming system is super easy, and much better than the ones they used in the beginning, though if you encounter any problems you can just post me a PM and I'll be happy to try and guide you through it

Yes if you miss it you can watch it later on. Even if you are running a little late, you can jump in middle of session and catch the beginning later on. For round about 30days.
