ok , i wont have time at all tomorrow so i had to post this now , i was really enjoying imagining the concept and working on this but i had to stop now ...

concept : the gate to the magic city is the journey from the temple of positive energy through the electric mist of the glowing waterfall , into the rock cut labyrinth caves and the path that flows into a river . only a person with pure positive energy may cross the temple , and only a magician can make it all the way through .

I misremembered and thought the topic was "Grand gate to the guild of mages" so I guess now in mine the magicians would have a city inside a city as dumb as it sounds. The brief does mention the word "guild" though.

My wizards are just an upper class who keep in control of the city and its wealth by intimidating with their supposed magical powers.

Voted artozi, really nice perspective, interesting gate and nice atmospheric colours.

PMaz: Really cool gate, alot of sci fi over it, nice detail and rendering. I felt it was stronger on its own without the background tho, for me the gate and background look different in style.

vibhas: Nice mystic picture, I like the orientic architecture. I think the piece could work without the cave walls in the middle tho, they distract me from the really beutiful city in the right corner that deserves more attention.

Benza: Nice colours, but I feel to much like Im inside some large building like a church or something and not really infront of a city gate.

Benedikt: Extremely nice picture, the only thing I can mention is that for me its more of a city picture then a gate picture. Amazing work non the less.

SouMeng: Really nice design, it looks very thought threw and the somewhat odd architecture makes it suit the topic really well for me. I do think you could of worked a little more on the background or used another angle that cut it out completely tho, it looks a little to much like a american small town to me. The gate is very nice.

electricibill: Cool pic, I like the inhospitable feeling it gives me, it looks a little bit to much like a caveopening then a city gate for me but maybe thats a choice you made, cavetowns do exist in magic universes!

JanJager: Really livefull and beutiful picture Jan, I love the atmosphere with all the people infront of the gates. What I can feel tho is that the people catch my eye more than the actual gate so maybe spice it up somehow, maybe colours, light, details or size?

smuli: hehe tough luck misreading the topic, I really like the kind of odd feeling it creates, its like if people where locked in or something, maybe all wizards where rejected to some sort of wizard ghetto? The ordinary looking door in that spectecular gate is a really nice touch aswell. I want to mention your sense for colours aswell, I really like them both in this pic but also in alot of other ones by you aswell.

darknight: I like the picture in itself but it looks a tad unfinished and Im not sure if I see it more like some sort of temple then a city gate, I dont get a sense that its protecting a city somewhere.

OchreHand: Beutiful picture, details, colours. Pretty strange that youre the only one that made some sort of dimension jump gate (if Im reading it right).

Very nice round, the wip thread is also very nice to look threw.

Wow, these are all really impressive. Thanks for all the eye candy guys!
Artozi- loved the color scheme and the "glyphy" feel great mood setter!
PMaz- The ships in the background are awesome!! it kind of feels like a steampunk meets fantasy which is unique, great job.
Benedikt- The sense of mass here is incredible! The floating cities were so well done my hat is off to you!
JanJager- I think you really incorporated the feeling of a city in your piece. I feel like this could be a real place where danger and magic await... great job!
OchreHand- This is super creepy awesome! The twisted face oozes magical although i think the sense of a gate or entrance was lost.

JanJager, got my vote for this round. Think u managed to incorparate the city feel to your piece, and you bring life in to your image wich makes the image more readable. +for good composition.

I went with JanJaggar. I love how he created an inner-sanctum feel to his painting. As if the gates truly hid away the magicians guild form the rest of the city. And his focus was on the gates and not the inner city which gave an air of mystery to the painting. Nice!

All of the images are beautiful but I would like to add that a magician is an illusionist not a practiconer of 'The Craft' - however some magacians are alchemists. Having said that I also love the sense of allure and suspense in VV's painting and his colors are brilliant which is why this painting was my second choice.

thanks, razorleaf it took me a while to figure out that im "VV" though(,right ?)
voted for benedikt as i could vote only for one ... his work reminds me of corricks work a bit , specially the use of colors , great work, idea n clean execution
others who gave me a hard time deciding ; soumeng : very clean concept ,the low contrast of the image i think works well , clean texture usage
ochrehand : for the realism and the amount of thought spent on the concept of the gate as well
artozi: coz well that environment looks something beyond my imagination , very creative
everyone did great this round though

Vibhas Virwani: You get my vote. I dig the mood you created. The gate itself is also very pretty and I dig the glimpse of the beautiful city in the distance. Good stuff!

OchreHand: Yours is my second favorite. Nice creepy effect, well done. Interesting technique, as it looks like there is a variety of methods used to make the image. 3D elements, tree silhouettes from photos... it works!

Wow so many beautiful pictures..I voted for Vibhas because it has a nice benelovent feel about it and the composition and colours lead your eye round nicely.

Was tough to vote for just one though, Ochrehand's is wonderfully ominous and JanJager's has a nice realism and atmosphere and Sou Meng's is truly a grand gate if I saw one.

Boy, tough round. Some really great pieces, a lot of different styles and ideas.
A great showing by everyone, but Ochrehand got my vote.
I just loved the colors and the overall tone of the piece. Nice and ominous.
    Love it.
As a minor aside, when did the EOW turn into a one vote a week thing? Didn't it used to be two?
