commercial stuff...army of two 2, coke , dancing with the stars, and more...BERLIN!!!

hey guys! hows it going? its been a long time. the days turn into weeks, the weeks turn into months...it goes so fast! man its a little too much to take sometimes... we've been busy as ever over at the shop, working on a bunch of cool stuff, so that's been good. anyway, i figured i'd post some commercial stuff i can show now, and say how pumped i am to be doing the Berlin show. marko is putting together a great line up, and i think it promises to be a great workshop with a very diverse cross section of instructors to learn from...i hope i'll see some of you there!

so here is a smattering of random stuff.
some army of two 40th day concepts, a few grunts and an environment....was nice to get to do a little work for the sequel as well.

next is a concept i did for midway a couple years ago..these were a mix of 3d, photos and paint. i included the thumbnails as well on these, as i was pretty happy with them.

next is a character concept for silent hill shattered memories. we did a bunch of character stuff for the nice guys over at climax. despite his sad demeanor, i had lots of fun working on this

i had the great opportunity to be able to do some pre vis for the intro set design for this season's dancing with the stars for the good people over at leroy clarkson recently. i made these with some 3d, photo textures, and photoshop. this was a very fun job, and the guys were awesome to work with. they do some really fantastic work over there.

next, here are some storyboards i did for the guys over at buck a few years ago. this was one of the craziest jobs ive ever done in terms of content. it was a blast, and in the end it was really cool to see the commercial, and how closely they matched the shots to the boards. if you go to youtube and type "coke zero bear" you can see the commercial. its amazing.

im also attaching a recent self portrait i did from life recently too. i posted it in my sketchbook not too long ago so apologies if youve sen it already. i dont get to oil paint as much as id like these days so i gotta milk what i have!

also if anyone cares, been working a bunch on the transient man comic...should have an update very soon.

hope you like and thanks for looking!

Ridiculously good, your cityscapes completely floored me, best I've ever seen. Your ability to capture different types of light is inspiring. Also the coke bear storyboards made me burst out laughing at several points, it seemed to keep on getting ever more ridiculous. Nice work on those. The oil self portrait is intense too, I saw it in your sketchbook but it really is intense and has a great old master feel to it that is distinctly Coro. Sweet stuff man.

Dood, that storyboard sequence I can see you totally laughing away. Honestly looks like you had fun and really made it actually cool and enjoyable. If I read that script, think a bit of vomit would have came up.

Bravo on everything! Still cannot believe that you are able to hammer on your comic while doing all of this. I'm seriously in awe. Have a wonderful time in Berlin,

Second that e338! The firts city view is really awesome. Especially the light on the bike. It's very cinematic when you scroll from top to bottom.
And then the man gazing at the photograph on the floor..... Where did I see that "photograph" before? Before this thread I looked at the thread from Jason Chan... But it wasn't there....
Yeah, that's it! It was a detail from the girl on the swing from the thread of Wes Burt which I saw yesterday! )
The "project criminal" images have a great atmosphere.
    Great stuff!

that self portrait is crazy. you just lost everything in a linseedy haze. looks awesome.

you can pretty much ref your face for any further work involving bears. at this point, your beard has a beard.. and that beard has a villainous mustache.

Obvious man-crush aside, you already know that your one of my favorite modern artists El Beardo, but im going to say it again anyway:

"You are one of my favorite artists of modern day"

I really think its your complete mastery of subtlety that does it for me.

The eye expression alone of that character for the second 40th day concept stuff just conveys so much attitude; you know how to make them deep on the first read and I really think folks could learn a lot from how much you communicate based simply on expression and body language.

Same gig with the silent hill piece, which is so powerful I think; the guy is just so defeated and forlorn, that and the distance the photograph is from him really adds complexity to the idea; you feel that distance and it implies theres more to know than what may appear to be a guy pining over a lost love.

I mean BLAM - so much communicated, I wish more folks used subtelty the way you do instead of beating people over the head with how much crap and props they can pile on top of a character and call it "dimension".

And believe it or not I really think the dancing with the stars shit is amazing.
Like its on top of mount olympus or something, you get this real majestic presence and personality from how you positioned the camera and lighting effects.

The coke zero stuff is just gleefully ridiculous, dude - again; the subtlety isnt lost on me there either, you can feel some of that comedic timing.

To me infusing personality, attitude and presence into ones work - reguardless of content - is really a true hallmark of a gift.
I guess I just cant blow enough smoke up your ass buddy, what can I say?

Ill catch you later, boss - be safe- and have a great time in Berlin!

Coro, the variety in your work without any lack of quality is mind boggling. The cars in the concepts, the storyboards, the oil painting...insane. Already have the first half of your storyboard DL and plan to get the second real soon. Incredibly insightful stuff and it'll be getting put to good use.

Awesome! I particularly love the city environments! Did you use Sketchup to lay in the basic forms? I agree with others, the lighting is superb.

So what we have here is a little "old dutch" meets "handlebar" ?

    http://www.dyers.org/blog/beards/beard-type-chart/

Or maybe "evil twin" meets "wizard" ?

    http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3292249/moustache_chart.jpg

I'm commenting on the beard of course - because the rest makes me speechless...such an inspiration.
