This may sound odd, but I really like how you portray the weight of flesh in your drawings, especially with these last figures. The guy's backside, thigh, and calf all show the effects of gravity on the flesh, as well as the angled lower leg, tension in the shoulder, and angled fingers of the lady. They feel grounded.

Also, it's interesting to see the excitement and motion present in a lot of your cartoons compared against the languid contentment of the Procyonians. You really do have a way with subtly getting a point across in your art.

Thanks. The weight is very apparent in the VP2 reference, of course; it's just the matter of reading it. These things aren't always very visible, just like muscles and other landmarks may not be too easy to see in the video; they have to be inferred and tracked, and I like to exaggerate them a little. I guess that's part of the point of doing these studies from time to time - keeps me on the ground too.

Interesting observation about the Procyonians... I like my cartoons with action, but it seems that I tend to stick the Procyonians into serene pictures. Not really sure why.

Speaking of which, I made some sketches of Procyonians during the same VP session - in the same poses, just to practice the differences between them and the human figures. Someone around here had been saying that they have human figures with rat heads stuck on them... that's not true.

Liking the updates, and I must admit that I too often think that I should get out to a life drawing class or two but my home life and kids gets in the way, so my advice to you would be don' put it off and do it while you can before other duties and excuses get in the way!

You know I hate being sad and old and fully loaded with wisdom that I ignore and yet pass out freely to all unsundry!! LOL

As to the great Internet debate "1960s ARPAnet experiments" I have been around since 1964 and loved the computer revolution in all its guises, all the acorn electrons the BBC model A & B up to my all time favorite the Amstrad CPC464 which was the first one to be supplied with a monitor and not a TV modulator, Ah the memories!! LOL

I love this sketchbook so much! Your style is quite nice and your understanding of form and construction is impressive. Your characters are so expressive...you make drawing look and feel so easy and not to mention, above all, fun. Haha

I found this practice page from April in the pile a couple of days ago. Apparently I had forgotten to scan it back then.

These are the Ayao-type Procyonians. The little stocky guys are just 4 feet tall or so.

Thank you! I am constantly practicing at form solidity, since it's been my weaker point back when I began, and if I am not careful, it is too easy to lapse and inadvertently let old automation kick in.

I stumbled on this forgotten pair of ten-minute doodles while digging in the scanned pictures.

Two different characters respond to the same challenge in their characteristic ways. The frog, on the other hand, is just happy to be there.

I am reasonably pleased with the overall feeling of body mass. Not too happy about the right ankle.

I hope for the sake of all concerned that they get round a table and sort it out and dont resort to stupidity with guns.

Any how to your posts, yes they are all pretty good as usual, but the movement and expression that you got in Post 110 with the "pwetty pweeze and NO!" was simply brilliant old chap great stuff, I am in awe of your greatness again!! LOL

Thanks for the kind invitation. The trouble was at the other end of the country, this time, and mostly a nuisance rather than deadly - owing to the newly rolled out interception system for artillery rockets.
